1981 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser – Thirty Three Year Survivor

Our 1981 FJ60 has been sitting in the showroom at the local dealer (Geweke in Lodi) for the last three years as a promotional item.  It usually sat next to a new FJ cruiser apparently giving the subtle impression that they all look this nice after thirty three years.  The vehicle is in pristine condition for a thirty three year old FJ60. the engine runs like a top and produces that incredible low end torque that is familiar to FJ60-62 owners. We don’t drive the cruiser any more and now that it is home we thought it was not the best idea to store it.  It’s time for someone else to enjoy it.  The photos give a good indication of its condition but I’ll add the following.  It was purchased new in Sacramento by a geology instructor at Sac City College.  From 1981 to 2002 she put 110,000 miles on it. I found out about it when she decided to retire and move to Arizona.  We put a little under 5,000 miles on it since then and it currently has 114,875 original miles on it. It runs perfectly and there are zero deferred maintenance issues. Everything works on the vehicle.  The original owner did not smoke nor do I. The ash tray appears virgin. The Michelin tires have 400 miles on them since new, the interior is completely original, and the headliner is immaculate.  The paint appears concourse in the photos but if you look close it has numerous minor paint dings around the grill area. The dings are difficult to see and certainly consistent with the mileage. It has never been damaged, repaired or re-painted and is in amazing condition considering its age. The paint is not oxidized anywhere. The biggest defect is a small dent at the upper edge of the driver side tail light. It can be seen in a couple of the photos. It also has a small paint blemish on the right front fender neat the top. It’s a little harder to see. There is ZERO rust on this vehicle.  That includes the rocker panels, floor pans, under the carpet, around the doors, it includes everything… absolutely no rust. It has lived in the central valley of California since new. We have never left it outside since we have owned it. As most buyers know, the central San Joaquin valley is very dry and cars can go decades without even a hint of rust.  This is a very desirable region for finding older vehicles with no rust.  If you have any questions about condition please send a message and I will reply accordingly.

We will ship the Land Cruiser anywhere in the world (buyers cost).  For domestic buyers Dependable Auto Shippers has a yard in Sacramento and we would be happy to take it there at no additional cost. They have a rate calculator on their website if you want to get an estimate of cost. If you want to ship it internationally there is a container yard in Oakland, California and again, we would deliver it to the container yard (or to a regional forwarder) at no additional cost.  International buyers: Please make sure you research the duties, tariffs, taxes etc.  Let’s say you reside in Kamakura Japan and you want to repatriate the cruiser to its homeland. We understand there are significant import duties on used vehicles to Japan. We would just ask that you familiarize yourself with all the duties, taxes, tariffs etc. before bidding.

We are requesting the successful bidder make a $1,000 deposit within 48 hours of the close of auction. This helps both of us. You are less likely to be bidding against phantom bidders and we are less likely to have to re-list the vehicle after someone changes their mind.

Under no circumstances will we...    (fill in the usual scammer prevention measures here).

To protect legitimate bidders we will delete bidders with zero or negative feedback.  If this is your first Ebay auction but you really want to bid, please contact me first.  We want to work with any legitimate bidder but we don’t need drama from scammers.

This is a no-reserve auction, there is no buy-it-now price, there will be no shill bidders. I'm in agriculture professionally.. not in the car business. This is all above board and transparent. We're not all about the money.

If the successful bidder finds any discrepancy in the description we will refund 100% of the deposit.

TLC 4x4.com ? A simple, reliable, curiously tough no-frills SUV. An original. Full of contradictions. A yawn with a silent shout. The FJ60 Land Cruiser is available in model years from 1981 to 1987 and are all equipped with the 2F engine and a 4-Speed manual transmission. And, FJ60's come with power steering, air conditioning and dual heaters as well! Hey, a little comfort ain't such a bad thing. We find that most of our clients are interested in the Land Cruiser because of it reputation and heritage. Whatever far corners of the earth we travel to or see on TV, the Land Cruiser is almost every nations first choice.

Wikipedia -?  The Toyota Land Cruiser (Japanese: ??? ???????? Toyota Rando-kur?z??) is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese car maker Toyota. The Land Cruiser series is the longest running series in Toyota history.[1] Production of the first generation Land Cruiser began in 1951 (90 units) as Toyota's version of a Jeep-like vehicle.[2][3] The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon, and utility truck versions. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity has led to huge popularity, especially in South Sudan[4] and Australia where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle.[5] Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback — considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain.[6][7][8] Main rivals include the Range RoverLand Rover DiscoveryJeep WranglerMitsubishi PajeroNissan Patrol

I should mention the geology instructor had the Land Cruiser fitted with a long range fuel tank. I believe it id a 36 gallon capacity tank. That is why the spare is mounted in the rear compartment.

Toyota sells six of 10 of hybrids in California

Wed, 31 Jul 2013

In an apparent shot back at Ford's increasing market share of electrified vehicles and claim that it accepts more Prius trade-ins for its own hybrids than any other car, Toyota has flexed a muscle and played the numbers game to put the Blue Oval in its place.
Leaning on its hybrid market dominance in California, the Japanese automaker stated that six out of 10 hybrids sold in the Golden State are Toyota models. And it keeps coming: Year-to-date through May 2013, Toyota sold five times more hybrids than Ford. One of every two hybrids in California is a Prius model. In addition, Toyota notes that it has sold 1.5 million Prius vehicles in the US, 90-percent of which are still on the road today.

2nd annual Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards revealed

Tue, Jan 13 2015

There was some absolutely fantastic auto advertising in 2014, ranging from funny to inspiring. Marking the best of it from the past year, the Second Annual One Show Automobile Advertising of the Year Awards were announced during the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (full disclosure: Autoblog was among the award's sponsors, and Editor-in-Chief Sharon Carty was a voter). Unlike previously, there were no brands with dominance over the list this time. Presented by The One Club, the awards have an international scope and hand out honors in a variety of categories. In the Broadcast TV group, there were three winners this year. First, there was The Scripted Life from Audi for the Q3 about breaking out of life's monotony. Also, Dad's Sixth Sense from Hyundai marketed the safety features in the Genesis. Finally, Unbreakable Drivers showed manly men being tested for the Toyota Hilux in Australia. The Online Video prize went to the fantastic The Epic Split spot from Volvo Trucks starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The best Interactive ad was the Honda video titled The Other Side for the Civic Type R, and the Experiential Advertising nod was for the Volkswagen Eyes on the Road clip that showed the dangers of texting and driving to a theater full of moviegoers in Hong Kong. Finally, the Public Choice Award went to the BMW commercial called Hello Future using the words of sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke for the i8. In the award not for videos, Jeep won the Print/Outdoor category for its Upside Down campaign. Check the ads out below, which show different animals when upside down. Also, look farther down for all of the winning videos and read their full announcements. Did Lexus make a BMW? Or did BMW make a Lexus? This and other 2017 surprises

Fri, Dec 29 2017

It's that time of year again. The calendar is about to reach its end, Star Trek Cats 2018 is about to take its place, and I'm reflecting about all the cars that graced my driveway this year or summoned me to exotic places. You know, like Stuttgart or Phoenix. In 2017, I drove at least 57, and as I perused the list of them, I started to notice a common refrain: "This car surprised me." Most were pleasant surprises, but there were a few head scratchers and facepalms for good measure. In both cases, it was generally the result of car companies seemingly trying to break out of an existing mold. Nowhere was that more apparent than the pair of Lexuses slathered in Infrared paint: The LS 500 that left me this week and the LC 500 that was my favorite car of 2017. Though Lexus has been trying to shake its crusty, gold-packaged reputation for some time now, its efforts always seemed like an old man choosing Hollister to redo his wardrobe after realizing it hasn't been updated since 1987. I fell in love with the LC, genuinely floored by its near-perfect take on the GT. It's characterful in sound, appearance and tactility. It was at home in the city, in the mountain and on the open road. It was both comfortable and thrilling, and after driving the mechanically related LS 500, I can report that the LC's talents aren't an outlier. The LS 500's turbo V6 may make different noises than the LC's naturally aspirated V8, but it nevertheless invigorates the cabin when the car is placed in Sport+ mode. The steering is truly communicative, body motions are kept in miraculous check, and I absolutely forgot I was in an enormous luxury limo ... and a Lexus one at that. It was everything that the BMW 530e was not. I drove that on the exact same roads and was utterly bored the entire time. Generally doughy, lifeless steering, more distant than Planet 9. And no, the plug-in hybrid powertrain had nothing to do with that. At least it shouldn't. The Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid I also drove this year proves that, as do the Hyundai Ioniqs, which are surprisingly adept and fun little cars regardless of what powers their wheels (Hyundai + hybrid = fun really blew me away). I would drive that Lexus LS F Sport over the BMW 5 Series any day of the week, which seems like a shocking thing to say in relation to either car. While Lexus is seemingly breaking out of its old crusty mold, BMW seems to be climbing into one.
