Toyota Fj40 Land Cruiser 1981

I can’t begin to emphasize how excellent the condition is of the inside and out of this Fj40 . Not a screaming
fast, tear it up rig, but an unrivaled crawler in the outback. Never abused, it remains an icon of endurance, a
philosophy of engineering over-design, in this era of throwaway.

It is a very well maintained plug and play great running machine. With no hidden problems, this cruiser is ready
to go another 35 years. Starts, drives, and stops like new, as it should. The strength of this particular Fj40 is
how stock original and uncut it is. This cruiser has never been painted and is all there including the padded roll
bar, original dashpad with no cracks, plug in glove box light, original manuals, original touch-up paint, original
floormats with no holes or tears, crank up jack and tools, folding back seats, front seats that are in good
condition, heater console with cover and finally the original unmolested 6 cylinder high compression,
low-end-torque engine and its support hardware that was supplied when new in 1981. Original repair manuals for
engine, body and emissions are also included. Some manuals are in tattered condition but still usable. Under hood
emissions are there but not currently hooked up. The FJ also comes equipped with lockable front hubs, front disc
brakes, good tires, a classic safari roof rack, rear tow ball which is intended to tow and maneuver a small boat or
equivalent.

Cosmetically the detractors on this vehicle are the typical rust spots on the rear of the body. Since not
considered a structural problem, these “battle scars” were coated with rust stop and left as is.

The frame, springs, mounts and undercarriage are all in great condition. All front end steering linkage knuckles
were re-done not long ago as was replacement of the water pump.

If restoration is your goal you could add to this excellent original Fj40 foundation.

Japan considering offering free hydrogen cars because $30k incentives apparently not enough

Wed, Aug 6 2014

There's no such thing as a free lunch. A free hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle, though? It may become a possibility in Japan, says Automotive News. We know the Japanese government is being plenty supportive of hydrogen vehicles since it will provide about $20,000 worth of incentives to prospective customers of the $69,000 vehicle. And with local governments like Toyota City's Aichi prefecture supplying another $10,000, out of pocket costs could reach less than $40,000 for the Toyota hydrogen car. We don't know for sure that the 'free' H2 car will happen, but with Toyota starting sales of its first production FCV next spring (potentially named Mirai), it could happen. That would also spell good news for Honda, which will follow up Toyota's effort for its own hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. The case for the free car is still pretty tenuous. Automotive News, citing the Nihon Keizai business publication, reports that the Japanese government has thrown around the idea of subsidizing the vehicles outright to early adopters just to gain some momentum for this kind of zero-emissions vehicles. Heck, the government would even throw in free fuel for good measure. We'll see about that. To see some of the official hydrogen excitement, click here for a video of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe taking a Toyota fuel cell vehicle for a brisk test drive. The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.

Toyota releases its Le Mans recap, 'The Ultimate Endurance Race'

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Two weeks ago, Audi released its short video about this years 24 Hours of Le Mans, and now Toyota has put the experience into its own words and pictures. Called The Ultimate Endurance Race, the clip and accompanying press release focus on how hybrid power helped Toyota claim second and fourth places with the TS030 Hybrid in just its second year competing at Le Mans.
There are some brief scenes of the battles had this year, like when Lucas di Grassi in the Toyota almost kissed Allan McNish in the Audi above, but the best part might be when Toyota promises it will be back. Next year, it's gonna be good. You'll find the relevant words and the images just below.
