If your reading this you should probably make sure your significant other is not around. You're relationship has to be up to the stresses imposed by the new arrival. It may take some time for your spouse to adjust to being a "Land Cruiser widow" If a Land Cruiser is brought into a weak relationship, there's always the chance you won't get to keep the house then you'd be without a garage to work in. Take a minute and make sure you're in a "safe zone" ........ All clear? OK! Now let's get a few things straight:

  • You have obviously done quite well for yourself and you deserve this.
  • She gets 13 MPG. It doesn't matter if she's in 2WD, 4WD, going up hill, downhill, with a tailwind or a headwind, going sideways or backwards. She gets 13MPG.
  • She does not have Airbags, ABS brakes, A/C, DVD, Chrome, Navigation or Heated Seats (unless the tops off and it's summer). - If you want that stuff, move on.
  • She IS very cool and somewhat rare.

Here's your chance if you want the best of the best. This one has a shade over 112K miles and her had the motor rebuilt by the previous owner. The good news? These continue to go UP in value unlike your daily driver. The bad news, hmmm, wait a second, there is no bad news.

This Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is pretty much like it was the day it left the dealership. A drop-dead gorgeous 1980 Beige Land Cruiser FJ40 and a very stock example to boot. Shes undergone an extensive restoration from top to bottom with meticulous attention to detail. She rides and drives as good as any FJ40 I have ever owned, and I've owned a lot of them.

Miraculously, this FJ40 has been able to dodge all of the modifications that you often see. You won't find diamond plate, a V8, rear quarters cut out for flares or machine gun turrets! It's got the original Toyota 2F 6-cylinder and the emission control or smog equipment appears to be intact. Why somehow it even managed to escape the dreaded CB antenna hole! 10-4 GOOD BUDDY! The inline six-cylinder hums and the steering, clutch, transfer case and transmission are all in excellent working order.

    Overview:
This FJ40 was restored by the previous owner who is a pilot and he did an excellent job! I have great respect for pilots, they’re detail oriented, maintenance and performance minded. The engine rebuild combined with a performance distributor and several other upgraded components results in a great running and driving truck. She doesn't burn or leak oil or any fluids. Inside you will find a beautiful cabin upgraded with LED lighting, additional amp meter, manifold pressure meter, aviation compass, sunroof and a high quality audio system. Having spent most of her life in dry climates, she’s in nearly perfect shape. Check out all the pictures. This FJ40 is a keeper!

    Interior:
The interior is flawless. New front and rear seat covers, metal seat backs were sandblasted and powder coated. Correct 1980 rear heater installed and painted satin black. Correct 1980 plastic center console installed. Original headliner is still in place. Kenwood AM/FM/CD with speakers in doors and in the rear. Correct jack, jack rods and toolkit. There's new door weatherstripping on all doors, all windows work smoothly and seal well. 112K miles indicated on odometer and believed to be accurate. All OEM original mats front and rear. All 4 seat belts are intact, not frayed, and work well. The rear heater works well as do all gauges and controls. All turn signals, lights, wipers, washers, taillights, backup lights, license plate lights, side markers, stereo and all gauges work perfectly. The front seats have been reupholstered and the rear jump seat retain the original upholstery and they look great. Both interior door panels as well as the dashpad are perfect.

    Body:
Repainted inside and out with Dupont single-stage urethane with hardener – Color matched to Toyota Beige 464. Rooftop and rain gutter repainted white, headlight bezel media blasted and painted white. Any rust was cut out and replaced with metal and rust proofed. There are no dents, dings or damage to the body. OEM front bumper with Halogen spots and fog lamps. During restoration she received new parts galore, rubber hood pads, hood hooks, all emblems & gaskets, new front and rear lamps, new mirrors, new transfer case shifter boot, etc. Set up to tow your favorite toy with a standard hitch receiver and 4 pin flat wiring. Cruiser is dealer equipped with Warn free wheeling hubs. The truck sits on a stock suspension and has a smooth ride compared to most. The Wildcat Radial tires are 80% and are mounted on OEM stock white wagon wheels! The spare is the original Dunlop Snow Cruiser.

    Summary:
The quality of this FJ40 is extreme. You'll be unable to drive her around with noticing the smiles and waves of the growing FJ40's fan base.! You can make a great memories in your FJ40 while also enjoying a blue chip investment. High bidder is responsible for pick up or delivery, I will assist in any way I can. I would like a wire transfer within 5 business days. I encourage you to call me (515) 864-1275 and thanks for looking! I reserve the right to end this auction early, which is usually what happens.

Import pickup truck-killing Chicken Tax to be repealed?

    Tue, Jun 30 2015

After over 50 years, the so-called Chicken Tax may finally be going the way of the dodo. Two pending trade deals with countries in the Pacific Rim and Europe potentially could open the US auto market up to imported trucks, if the measures pass. Although, it still might be a while before you can own that Volkswagen Amarok or Toyota Hilux, if ever. The 25-percent import tariff that the Chicken Tax imposes on foreign trucks essentially makes the things all but impossible to sell one profitably in the US, which lends a distinct advantage to domestic pickups. Both the Trans-Pacific Partnership with 12 counties and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union would finally end the charge. According to Automotive News though, don't expect new pickups to flood the market, at least not immediately. These deals might roll back the tariff gradually over time, and in the case of Japan, it could be as long as 25 years before fully free trade. Furthermore, Thailand, a major truck builder in Asia, isn't currently part of the deal, and any new models here would still need to meet safety and emissions rules, as well. Automotive News gauged the very early intentions of several automakers with foreign-built trucks, and they weren't necessarily champing at the bit to start imports. Toyota thinks the Hilux sits between the Tundra and Tacoma, and Mazda doesn't think the BT-50 fits its image here. Also, VW doesn't necessarily want to bring the Amarok over from Hannover. There is previous precedent for companies at least considering bringing in pickup trucks after the Chicken Tax's demise, though. The Pacific free trade deal could be done as soon as this fall, while the EU one is likely further out, according to Automotive News. Given enough time, the more accessible ports could allow some new trucks to enter the market.

Toyota and Lexus recalling 235,000 hybrid CUVs and sedans over separate issues

    Wed, 04 Sep 2013

When it rains, it pours. Toyota has announced a pair of separate but voluntary North America recalls covering approximately 235,000 vehicles built between 2006 and 2011. The larger of the two recalls targets Toyota's hybridized crossovers, the Lexus RX400h and Toyota Highlander Hybrid. 133,000 units, including 2006-2010 Highlander and 2006-2008 RX crossovers are covered in the campaign. The other recall affects 102,000 IS350 sedans, IS350C convertibles and GS350 sedans built between 2006 and 2011.
With the CUVs, the faults in the parallel circuits of the transistors can cause heat damage in the inverter assembly, triggering an abundance of warning lamps and sending the vehicle into limp mode. The Lexus sedans are being recalled due to loose bolts on the variable valve timing controller. Detected by unusual underhood sounds on startup, the issue can cause the engine to stop while driving. The inverter issue is also triggering similar recalls in Japan and Europe.
At the moment, it's unclear if any of these issues have caused any crashes or injuries. Toyota says it plans to notify owners of the recall via snail mail. Additional information for owners can be found on the recall sites for Toyota and Lexus or by calling Toyota's customer service line, at 1-800-331-4331. Recharge Wrap-up: Q50 Hybrid video, Iran's biodiesel weed

    Mon, Aug 10 2015

A new video from Infiniti showcases the Q50 Hybrid's kinetic energy recovery technology, borrowed from Formula One. The video details what is going on inside both the Q50 Hybrid and the racecar when it gathers energy to store for later use, offering better performance than an internal combustion engine alone. In the Q50 Hybrid, that electric energy helps the car accelerate from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. The video also serves to highlight the relationship between racing innovation and performance and efficiency improvements in production vehicles. See the video above. The 2015 Toyota Prius C has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The compact hybrid, updated for the 2015 model year, has been upgraded from a "poor" to "acceptable" rating in the small overlap crash test, placing it on the Top Safety Pick list. Beginning in the 2016 model year, cars will have to score a "good" rating on the test to make the list, which means further improvements will be necessary if Toyota wants the Prius C to maintain its safety status with the IIHS. Read more at Green Car Reports. A couple in Tennessee have been found guilty of scamming the state in a fake biodiesel scheme. John and Lisa Brichetto's Northington Energy LLC received a state loan to produce biodiesel in 2011, but the facility never started production and was later foreclosed upon. In addition to the $142,215 the Brichettos defrauded from Tennessee, the state also invested in utilities and roads, while the US Department of Agriculture also paid for site improvements. Read more from the Times Free Press. Researchers in Iran have developed a way to make biodiesel from a weed. Scientists at the Islamic Azad University have created two liters of biomass for biofuel from flixweed. Flixweed, also called herb-Sophia and tansy mustard, is a non-edible weed that grows in various climates with little to no effort. It was found to contain 22 percent oil and fatty acids, and the biomass contains oxygenated chemical components. "This issue is important because the atomic oxygen in the fuel of a car directly cuts exhaust and the dangerous carbon monoxide and cancerous particles suspended in air," says Mehdi Alami, a chemistry graduate working on the project.
