1978 Toyota FJ40 Land CruiserRestored FJ40 Land Cruiser 4WD 4.2L 4 Speed/ Fuel Injected!! /Factory Dune Beige Color Vehicle InfoExterior/Body- The body on this 1978 FJ40 is almost all new. The following have been replaced:
Engine- This FJ40 has the original straight 6 in it with low miles (around 110k miles). The really nice thing about this engine is the fuel injection. There is a TBI injection kit from Man-a-fre. This kit is solid and has run really well for me, it runs well because I took the time to buy all the necessary parts i.e. painless wiring harness, all new sensors, brand new electronic distributor etc. To make it run like it should I had Howell EFI burn a computer chip especially for this FJ40. There is nothing like getting into this Cruiser and having it crank right up and go. Also the gas mileage is around ~18 MPG depending how heavy your foot is. Other than that all systems in the engine have been properly sorted. Finally, if the buyer would like the old parts to convert this back to a carb I have those and will include them upon request. Overall this is great running LandCruiser Interior- As you can see from the pictures the front seats have been recovered and are in new condition. When I was replacing the seat covers I installed heated seat elements in the Driver and passenger seats. These are great for those cold mornings- definitely what every Cruiser should have. There is a factory original jump seat in the back and the original cover is in good shape. Audio System- I have replaced the front radio with a good quality JVC unit some Pioneer 6x9's in boxes in the back along with a bazooka sub in the back. It has a great sound with the top on or off. Winch- Included with the truck is the venerable Warn 8274. It runs really well and has a remote that is in great condition. I put a custom from bumper on to mount the winch it gives the truck a great recovery option and looks great. Power Steering- I had the GM/Saginaw conversion done, it is clean and looks like it has always been there. There is no "strong arming" yourself around the road. It is the only way to go with an FJ40 plus it tightens up the steering by removing all the sloppy factory joints. Lift Kit- Overall there is 5 inches of lift on this truck. It is sprung under using Hell Creek 4" leaf springs and +1 inch Ruff Stuff shackles. I have also installed Bilstein 5100 series shocks. Tire size is 35x12.5 R17 running in American Racing Mojave wheels. Questions- Feel free to ask me any questions, I will respond as quickly as I can. On Sep-03-14 at 18:04:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Something that I forgot to mention- I will keep adding them to the auction as I think of them. |

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
This first-gen Toyota Celica is one mean mother
Tue, 09 Jul 2013Brian Karasawa's gen-one Toyota Celica is, in a word, badass. As a long-standing fan of the marque, the doting owner has tried to both restore and improve his Celica keeping period-correct modifications in mind. The 20R/22R mashup engine is outputting roughly 185 horsepower and graced with a lot of JDM-specific parts and modifications. Clearly, the exhaust has been upgraded from stock, as clips of the orange Toyota in motion are accompanied by one hell of a nice sound.
Tastes clearly vary, and there's not as much love for the first-wave of Japanese metal as there is for similar era American-iron, but we're pleased to see these cars finally getting more time in the spotlight. Scroll down below to see why we're stoked, and consider cruising your local Craigslist for late 1970s and early 1980s Japanese coolness (before we get there first).
Toyota C-HR Concept is a high-riding hybrid hatch [w/video]
Thu, 02 Oct 2014Despite having the tendency to offer decidedly bland production cars, Toyota occasionally surprises us with interesting concept cars. Such is the case with the C-HR concept making its debut at the Paris Motor Show this week. It's a concept showing forward-thinking design that hints at "a type of crossover vehicle Toyota would like to bring to market," according to the automaker's release, and it rides on an all-new platform and uses a hybrid powertrain.
About that powertrain: Toyota isn't revealing anything, just saying that it will - brace yourselves - "deliver significantly improved fuel efficiency" (over what, exactly?) The car also uses a brand-new architecture, though it hasn't really revealed any major details about that aspect, either.
It's a high-riding, muscular thing, with a rakish hatchback shape. Should it reach production, Toyota says it would take the shape of a C-segment crossover. It'd be cool to see something like this hit the road someday, but for now, we won't hold our breath.
