1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with a 2F engine. Olive Brown
I have owned a total of 14 FJ40s and 2 FJ45 pickups in the last 30 years and this stock '78 is a nice one!. It
has 99.9% of the 'original-stuff'' still on it AND that stuff still functions! I currently have two other FJ40s and
the facility-space requires this one to be adopted. I have a passion for these vehicles and I'm certain that the
new owner will love it.
I live 40 minutes northwest of Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and 90 minutes northwest of Hobby Airport
in Houston, TX. I welcome you to inspect and drive this vehicle and you will agree as to the quality of this FJ40.
Interior:
Front seats and jump seats in FJ40 stock charcoal-grey are in very nice condition.
Driver & passenger floorboards and cargo bed are in great condition (see photos). Two coats of Zero-Rust product
(as a base) and 3 coats of Raptor bed liner (with matching paint) was applied to the driver and passenger floor
boards. I left the transmission hump stock, however it can be finished to match the floor boards. I will include a
can of extra paint.
Knobs and switches are present and operate:
Wipers slow & fast operational
Choke, hazard, fan low & high, fresh air, warm air all function. Vent/heat/defrost knobs present and heater
functions. Rear heater was disassembled, cleaned and it has an easy-access, quick disconnect wire to turn it on &
off. It works well and will certainly warm-your-cargo.
Cigarette lighter is present but does not work.
There is a home-made piece of plastic to cover the hole where the AM/FM radio was removed. Antennae is present.
All gauges operate correctly and hold steady. (Nice that this FJ40 holds engine temp on the cool side).
Emergency brake holds the vehicle stationary.
Horn functions with two horn assemblies on the side of the radiator shroud.
Gauges, dash, heater and dome lights all function. Dome light plastic cover is cracked.
Sun visors and rear view mirror are functional.
New 4-speed shift knob.
Side window defoggers and hoses from heater are present and functional.
New pedal pads for brake, clutch and gas.
Glove box....you can eat out of there it is so clean!
Driver & passenger windows roll up and down properly.
Driver, passenger, ambulance doors and fuel door lock & unlock with TWO sets of keys.
Headliner is not present, however the top has been properly prepared & is ready for a replacement liner. These run
about $150 from Cruiser Corps.

Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with
Mon, 12 May 2014Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.
Toyota's future fuel cell vehicle lineup revealed?
Wed, Aug 26 2015Being an Olympic sponsor from 2017 through 2024 puts Toyota in the international limelight, and the company is preparing a fleet of efficient, cutting-edge vehicles just in time for the Tokyo games in 2020. At least eight new models could be on the way, according to Automotive News citing Best Car from Japan. Three of those might make use of the hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain developed for the Mirai. While many of these fuel cells are going into Japan-only vehicles, one of them could come here. Reiterating earlier rumors, Automotive News reports a hydrogen-powered Lexus LS is set for 2018. It could be even lighter than the current hybrid model, too. A similar version of the Toyota Crown would launch there in 2019 and possibly an FCEV Estima minivan, too. Beyond fuel cells, Toyota also intends to put the JPN Taxi Concept from the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show into production in time for the games, according to Automotive News. For 2017, the brand's flagship Century is also expected to adopt a hybrid V8 to replace the current V12, as well. Plus, many of its Japanese-market vans are also due for updates. All of this is certainly a massive undertaking to be ready in time, but Tokyo want to use the games as a chance to show the city as an innovative, international destination. Automotive News predicts Toyota could supply thousands of vehicles to haul all of the athletes and dignitaries around. In addition, the Japanese government wants 6,000 fuel cell vehicles on the road and 35 refueling stations up an running for the games. Related Video:
Toyota celebrates 30 years of 4Runner with... incentives?
Mon, 24 Feb 2014Many Americans view their 30th birthdays as significant milestones, even though the average life expectancy here is more than 2.5 times that age. So you might think Toyota would be keen to party over the 30th anniversary of its 4Runner, since most models don't even live to half that age. You can put that idea away unless you consider discounts of $500 to $1,000 something worthy of cake and kazoos, since it appears that's all the birthday SUV will get. That's right, not even a trim-and-tape special edition or so much as a sticker. We asked Toyota for comment and were told they had "No other 30th anniversary 4Runner items to announce at the time."
So, about those incentives: they climb from $500 on the SR5 and Trail editions to $750 on Premium models and $1,000 on the Limited trims. Toyota says they're available at dealerships now and will last for the entire year. There's a press release below with a little more background, and there's a sad violin playing somewhere in the distance.
Disappointed, party of one, your table is now ready...
