This is a great FJ40. Its not perfect but draws attention everywhere we drive it. You rarely see these and almost never see one in this condition.
I have most of the chain of title back to 1980 when it was purchased in Colorado. It was then titled in Texas in 1996 where it appears to have undergone a full restoration based on the notes and a folder I have. It appears everything mechanical was redone, it was painted and underside coated and painted. It moved to FL in 1997 when it was appraised at $17,500. That's where I bought it last fall. It is currently tagged and insured by my father in law in GA and I also have an open FL title.
When I bought it, it needed freshened up so I had it repainted (inside and out) its original Sky Blue color. What little rust there was (I could hold it in palm of one hand) was cut out when it was repainted. Rhino liner was used on interior floors and exterior steps. I bought new exterior mirrors, door handles, dash pad cover and some other miscellaneous items from Cool Cruisers of TX at that time.
Its been inspected by my mechanic and is very sound mechanically. There was a variety of little things (oil change, radiator flush, inspection, wiper blades, etc.) he did. Original engine with non-functional smog equipment still installed. Factory 4-speed and front disc brakes. The FJ starts, runs, drives and stops great. 4WD appears to work fine but I've not had it off-road. I rarely drive it but use it occasionally when other cars are in shop. I think you'd be safe to drive it anywhere.
It has a practically new set of aftermarket wheels and tries. White letters still have blue on inside.
Lights, switches, gauges, etc. function as they should as far as I can tell except for dash light flickers and I have an OEM switch that needs to be installed. OEM front and rear mats. Non-Toyota rear lap belts installed but I have factory ones that will go with truck. I've installed the OEM rear mat and OEM ambulance door cover since pictures were taken.
As far as bad, there's not a lot, but it is a 35 year old truck. Windows rattle unless you roll them up tight. Driver's side rear ambulance door pops out of the upper catch and rattles if you hit a bump hard. Headliner needs to be reattached in back rear corner (I will try and do this before shipping). Radio needs to be hooked up. If I kept it I will probably spray seat frames black. The interior light switch does not work, but I have a used OEM one (and bulb) that needs to be installed. I don't have the plastic light cover. I should probably have the alignment checked but just haven't done that yet.
That's all the issues I can think of but there may be a handful of others. I'm happy to answer any questions to the best of my knowledge. Please email them to me with a phone number and I'll respond via email or call ASAP.
Winning bidder needs to have FJ40 picked up within a week of auctions end, The FJ40 is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end auction early at any time.

2014 Toyota Highlander
Tue, 17 Dec 2013Midsize crossovers like the Toyota Highlander tend to play a thankless role in the life of today's modern family.
That's really too bad. With the ability to hold several hyperactive kids and tons of cargo while keeping everyone safe and comfortable in all kinds of climate conditions day in and day out, they're true heroes in the lives of hundreds of thousands of families across the country. Yet their car-apathetic owners often immediately forget about them as soon as their work is done. And nearly all midsize crossovers are thoroughly ignored by enthusiasts whose eyes begin to glaze over at first mention of the phrase "third row."
Toyota is looking to soften the blow somewhat by giving its midsize crossover, the Highlander, a big redesign for the 2014 model year. With a bold new look, updated suspension and a refreshed interior focused on comfort and convenience, Toyota aims to make the Highlander sportier to drive and more striking in appearance, because, as the marketing team explains, "families are going places and they want to get there in style."
Weekly Recap: Ferrari, Ford and Porsche power up for Geneva
Sat, Feb 7 2015Monday was Groundhog Day. Tuesday, apparently, was Sports Car Day. The Ferrari 488 GTB, the Ford Focus RS and the Porsche Cayman GT4 all debuted within hours of each other ahead of their rollouts at the Geneva Motor Show. Three sporty machines, three vastly different approaches – and a lot of implications for enthusiasts. That's a day worth repeating. It also illustrates the opportunities automakers see in the performance market, which is expected to grow in the coming years. Ford estimates the segment has expanded 14 percent in Europe and surged 70 percent in North America since 2009. The Detroit Auto Show was evidence of this, and performance cars of every stripe debuted, including the Acura NSX, Ford GT, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and several others. This isn't a fad. Performance cars aren't going away. The question is why? Stricter CAFE standards are looming in the United States, as are tighter emissions regulations in Europe. And no one expects gas prices to remain low in America. None of this matters for sports cars, and automakers are increasingly using them to elevate their images. That's why Dodge rolled out two 707-horsepower Hellcats last year. It's why Ford has decided to resurrect the GT for road and track. It's why in the depths of bankruptcy, General Motors continued work on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, not to mention the Z06. "Great brands are made one car at a time," Ford of Europe president Jim Farley said at the reveal of the Focus RS. Still, companies make those cars for different reasons. View 5 Photos Mainstream brands like Ford and Dodge want to build cars that get people talking, excite their bases and drive more potential customers into the showroom. They probably don't buy a Focus RS or a Hellcat, but suddenly the regular Focus hatch looks a bit hotter, and that V6 Charger seems to be just a touch more muscular. The halo of performance is alive and well in the eyes of automakers and their customers. "It's one of the most effective catalysts for ingenuity and innovation," said Joe Bakaj, vice president of product development for Ford of Europe. That also leads to a trickle-down effect. Some of the technologies inevitably make their way to other products. It's hard to think the new all-wheel-drive system in the Focus RS that distributes torque front to rear and side to side won't be used in other vehicles. It's different for Ferrari and Porsche.
Hyundai, Kia, Genesis and Subaru clean up in IIHS 2018 safety ratings
Thu, Dec 7 2017Hyundai, its partner Kia and its Genesis division are the big winners in the latest vehicle safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, accounting for six of the 15 models that earned the Top Safety Pick+ awards for 2018. Subaru was right behind with four, Mercedes-Benz had two, and Toyota, BMW and Ford each had one. Another 47 vehicles earned the Top Safety Pick designation, where Toyota had 10 vehicle models, with Hyundai recognized for nine models. All but one of the seven vehicles in Subaru's lineup, the BRZ, qualified for one of the awards. IIHS strengthened the criteria for the Top Safety Pick+ award for 2018 to require headlights to earn a "good" rating — an "acceptable" rating was previously enough to notch the "plus" award — and good or acceptable passenger-side protection in the small overlap front crash, which replicates a crash involving just the front corner of a vehicle. It also required vehicles to have acceptable or good headlights for the first time to earn a Top Safety Pick award. Most of winners for both awards qualified on the basis of optional upgrades. IIHS in October began evaluating the passenger side of vehicles in its small overlap front crash test after it said it became clear that automakers were neglecting that side of the vehicle as they focused on improving driver-side protections. IIHS first began conducting driver-side small overlap crashes in 2012. It began measuring both how well low and high beams illuminated the road and the amount of glare they produce for oncoming vehicles as part of its ratings in 2016. The Top Safety Pick+ winners are listed below. The list doesn't include any minivans, pickups or minicars, which don't appear on either list of awardees.
