1978 Fj40 Land Cruiser 42k Orig Miles & Light Resto New Ultimate Old Emu Lift on 2040-cars

Year:1978 Mileage:42560 Color: Upgrades
Location:

This is an incredible rare find - maybe not quite a 'barn' find - but it is our understanding that it was in a garage and storage unit for most of its life with only two previous owners.

The original owner bought it up near Elko Nevada and used it for prospecting and trapping in the high desert area three hours east of Reno.  The second owner knew him when he was younger and often asked him if he could buy it - then one day in 2009 the original owner went to his house and offered it to him for sale - the second owner had almost forgot what he was talking about!  We visited the second owner last year and were lucky enough to purchase it. We also found one gas receipt from December 1978 when the original owner purchased gas - 66.9 cents per gallon - full tank $9.90!

Well - it's too nice for us to keep and two kids starting college shortly need their tuition paid - now - but we did freshen it up and added a few upgrades with a complete and light frame on restoration.

Everything about this FJ 40 is like a time capsule from 1978 with 42k original low miles.  It shifts and runs like new.  The doors open and close as if they were new - the engine idles and runs smoothly at 65mph all day long.  The transmission shifts perfectly through all forward gears and reverse, and it transfers effortlessly to 4wd. Original AM radio, never used orig Work Light and the glovebox outlet works, Orig touch up paint can and orig manuals.  Everything works electronically - All gauges and switches work with upgraded actual water temp - can be removed and reinstalled to temp guage - your choice - but it is nice to know the exact temperature.  All orig factory tools/bag, jack and components as they came from the factory.  Original factory dash has no cracks or wear of any kind, original Toyota front floor mat is like new, rear orig insulated mat in great condition. Original door panels are in like new condition with no signs of wear of any kind.  All weather stripping in great condition. The windows crank up and down with little effort.

All Original Factory Toyota Glass, including the windshield.

If you choose to fly in and pick it up personally - and drive it back - I would have no worries you would make it home mechanically - its that nice and dependable.

It would also be quite a deal at our reserve price compared to the ones completely restored ones that have sold at auction recently for $77K and $105K.

Cleaned undercarriage professionally by Old School Auto Restoration using the same process as CCOT: Power washed, 3M undercoating applied to wheel well areas and underbody as per factory application.  Frame, axles and front end was coated with POR-15 in a Satin original finish look that resists collecting dust or holding moisture.

New OEM Toyota factory rear taillight lens and OEM Gaskets.

New OEM Toyota factory mirrors

New OEM Toyota hood engine compartment mounts, new OEM emblems all around, new Toyota OEM Hood and Windshield Hooks and pads.

New Exterior Paint with Orig PPG 031 Color of Single Stage Paint. Original photos of cruiser available upon request.

Interior Upgrades:

New Cool Cruisers of Texas (CCOT) Seat Upholstery with Marine Naugahyde Vinyl (orig seats were in great condition - but the material was slightly tearing and the threads were starting to come apart on the drivers side - (orig photos available if your interested)

New CCOT custom FJ40 Console with lockable Stereo compartment.  New Sony AM/FM Stereo complete with Bluetooth (hands free), CD, Aux and USB ports, Satilite ready,  and drink holders (orig fact console available).

We may advertise locally and would reserve the right to sell if the Reserve is not reached.

Feel free to call, text or email - we will post additional pictures and videos off of ebays site.  Additional videos may have to be emailed directly to you - send a text to our number that has your email address and we will send asap.

If you are interested in Power Steering or Air Conditioning - we can have those new components professionally installed for an additional $4000 over our reserve price, or final selling price, or it can be a negotiated discussion.  The Power Steering would be a bolt on system - no welding - that is offered by Classic Cruisers, and the AC system also offered by Classic Cruisers maintains the original heater and heating system and is a proven system to add value to your cruiser.  We would need approximately two weeks to have those systems installed if your interested.

At least another 50 photos will be linked to an off site website early this week - and videos will be available - just need you to text me your email address or give me a call.

Thanks very much for your interest - it's a great rare find!

Automakers paying Chinese dealers for lower-than-expected sales

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The Chinese dealers vs. foreign manufacturers story won't quit. It began with a story on the struggles faced by FAW-Toyota joint venture dealers, with supposedly 95 percent of the showrooms losing money, and 10 percent of them doing so poorly that they'd have to exit the business. The problem is mandated sales targets, most set when the country's economy was racing. Now that things have slowed, China's dealers are swimming in unsold cars and the costs to keep them. In the case of FAW-Toyota, dealers asked Toyota to hand over 2.2 billion yuan ($355 million) to help address the situation. That was followed by a report noting the issues that Honda, BMW, and Nissan dealers are having with the same issue, revealing that the Chinese Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) had taken the highly unusual step of writing to the Chinese government to complain. Now Reuters reports that CADA is not only pressing its case even harder, it's being open about it: it announced that BMW agreed to pay dealers 5.1 billion yuan ($820 million) to alleviate poor profits last year. Unnamed sources said Audi has thrown 2 billion yuan into the kitty for subsidies, and Daimler has contributed "about 1 billion yuan" to its dealers. The battle isn't just about 2014, but how business will be run in 2015 as well: Chinese Porsche dealers have requested the automaker lower its 2015 target of 64,000 cars, which would be a 40-percent increase on its 2014 sales of 46,931 vehicles. One analyst called it "shocking" that the CADA has taken its fight public, while CADA comments continue to imply that dealers have been railroaded to the cliff's edge without recourse. "Due to the difference in status," it's deputy secretary said, "individual dealers are not willing to, or don't dare to, talk frankly with the carmakers...." Both parties need one another, so they'll figure out a way to make it work – but that could mean acknowledging the Chinese market is behaving more like a mature one, not an emerging one. Toyota nearing $1B settlement of unintended acceleration criminal probe

Sun, 09 Feb 2014

According to those all-too-nebulous "people familiar with the matter," Toyota is close to a settlement with the US federal government to end a criminal probe over its long-running unintended acceleration fiasco. Though Toyota has never admitted guilt, the deal could reportedly crest a billion dollars and would likely include a criminal deferred prosecution agreement, and while we're not legal experts, The Wall Street Journal explains that such a deal would "[force Toyota] to accept responsibility while avoiding the potentially crippling consequences of federal criminal convictions."
The report from WSJ also suggests that Toyota is facing charges that it "made false or incomplete disclosures" to various government agencies regarding possible defects to its cars. Such charges may include mail and wire fraud violations. Toyota has already paid out fines totaling $66.2 million to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because it failed to report safety defects in a timely manner.
This deal with the federal government is not related to the billion-dollar class-action settlement reached with Toyota owners over falling vehicle values, and it's also different from the roughly 400 lawsuits still in courts alleging personal injury of wrongful death due to cases of unintended acceleration. In other words, don't expect to hear the end of such courtroom verdicts and settlements anytime soon...
