1977 Fj40 Land Cruiser - Original, Low Miles on 2040-cars

Year:1977 Mileage:49989 Color: repainted with it
Location:

Lincoln, Nebraska, United States

Lincoln, Nebraska, United States

I am the third owner of this FJ40 that is original except for the wheels. I have eight orginal hubcaps, but the wheels I had were taken from a storage shed. I have the original invoice saved by the first owner, a doctor who lived in Casper Wyoming and used this vehicle as his hunting rig, which he stored in a barn on his hunting ranch. It was purchased on October 18, 1977 with the following: standard 6 cylinder engine; 4-speed transmission; 4 wheel drive/2 spd transfer; rear mounted spare tire; power front disc brakes; heavy duty steel skid plate; heavy duty battery/alternator; heavy duty heater/defroster; reinforced steel/fiberglass top/roll bar; flip-out rear quarter windows; side facing fold-up rear seats; swing-out rear doors; locking fuel fill door; rear heater; high altitude package; warn locking hubs; AM pushbutton radio; undercoating; Invoice $6,690.88

The doctor added an aftermarket air-conditioning unit that when charged cools the cabin (see picture). Additionally, the doctor added a wench to the front that runs off the transfer case, activated by a knob in the console, located just left of the headlight pull switch; CB radio; AM-FM cassette radio/player. The second owner replaced the orginal wheels with aftermarket white spoke wheels, saving the orginal wheels, which I had stolen from a storage shed. I had the exterior repainted with it's orginal color. I purchased a Spector Off-Road cover for the vehicle to cover it when it was in storage. I have had it garaged since I owned it and the second owner as well, the doctor stored it in a barn as I've already mentioned.

The mileage may be questioned, but it is accurate up until the odometer stopped functioning. The vehicle was driven low miles by all owners; I have a Midas Muffler invoice from October 15, 1984, documenting the mileage at 17,450 miles (or about 2,500 miles per year, at his hunting ranch). I recall the second owner saying he'd driven it less than 3,000 miles in the years he owned it, and had shown me a letter he had from the doctor explaining and documenting the low miles. My family has driven it sparingly during the 15 years we've owned it. Four of my five kids cut their teeth driving this vehicle and now can handle a stick shift in any vehicle.

She, the "Smurf" as we call her, needs an owner who wants a great classic FJ40 for fun, transportation or restoration. I just never got my cabin in the mountains to park her at...

Toyota and Mazda set to expand partnership

Mon, May 11 2015

Toyota and Mazda are already teaming up for the Scion iA and Mazda2, but that partnership might just be the beginning. Reuters reports the two Japanese companies could expand their work together, with Toyota chipping in its experience with both fuel cells and plug-in-hybrid tech, and Mazda contributing its know-how in regards to its Skyactiv line of engines. The report cites a pair of unnamed sources that are "not authorized to discuss the matter publicly." The move, on the surface, is certainly appealing for both parties. Mazda has very little experience with hybrids (remember the Ford-rebadged Tribute Hybrid?), let alone something as advanced as a fuel-cell vehicle. Teaming with Toyota, arguably the world's greatest hybrid manufacturer, would give it a serious leg up. For the Japanese giant, meanwhile, a partnership with Mazda could expand the economy of scale for the Mirai FCV's tech, while Skyactiv engines would do well in replacing the base engines in cars like the Corolla, Camry, and RAV4. What are your thoughts? Would an expanded partnership between Toyota and Mazda make sense? Can you think of any drawbacks? Have your say in Comments. Toyota releases its Le Mans recap, 'The Ultimate Endurance Race'

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Two weeks ago, Audi released its short video about this years 24 Hours of Le Mans, and now Toyota has put the experience into its own words and pictures. Called The Ultimate Endurance Race, the clip and accompanying press release focus on how hybrid power helped Toyota claim second and fourth places with the TS030 Hybrid in just its second year competing at Le Mans.
There are some brief scenes of the battles had this year, like when Lucas di Grassi in the Toyota almost kissed Allan McNish in the Audi above, but the best part might be when Toyota promises it will be back. Next year, it's gonna be good. You'll find the relevant words and the images just below.

Toyota Camry Dragster takes the phrase 'sleeper' to its logical extreme [w/video]

Wed, 05 Nov 2014

Sometimes, looks can be deceiving. This is certainly one of those times, as Toyota successfully trolled the entirety of the media corps at the 2014 SEMA Show by rolling an innocent-looking Camry onto the floor... only to lift literally the entirety of its body to reveal an 850-horsepower, tube-framed dragster. Well, we have been asking for a more driver-oriented Toyota.
While it's designed to go fast in a straight line, the origin of the Camry Dragster's parts might be surprising. The 5.7-liter V8 engine, transmission, rear axle and electronics were plucked from the Toyota Tundra pickup. Toyota Racing Development donated a supercharger, while a wet-nitrous-injection system was also tacked on for that little extra something. Those goodies will help propel this anonymous looking monster through the quarter mile in just 9.8 seconds.
"This is the most extreme build we've ever unveiled at SEMA," said Toyota's motorsports chief Steve Appelbaum said in a statement. "The transformation from seemingly stock Camry to full-blown racecar just shocks the senses. Chuck Wade and the team at Motorsports Technical Center did a truly spectacular job executing the vision of this project."
