Hello, my name is John Goubeaux and I am selling my 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser.  I have owned this Cruiser for 13 years, purchasing it in December of the year 2000.  It has served me well and has been a ton of fun but it is time to move on due to the circumstances of life.  I hope she goes to a good home.  I bought this truck in Buffalo New York and brought it back to Columbus Ohio as a play toy and creative project.  Over the last 13 years I have poured much into this cruiser, both money and soul, developing it into what you see here today.  I have only put 882 miles on this Cruiser over those last 13 years.  While this Cruiser is not a show truck, with some time and passion, she is not far off.

About the truck:  The Cruiser retains its original 4.2 liter straight 6 cylinder with a two barrel Rochester carburetor.  Both the engine and carb were professionally rebuilt and the truck runs great.  The 4 speed manual transmission shifts as it should.  All gears work smoothly.  The exhaust flows through a FlowMaster muffler and into custom split pipes.  At idle, this truck has a mean "burble" and sounds even better rolling down the road.  A "Highway 15" wiring harness and kit do the electrical duty with the fuse box stowed in the glove box.  Ring-lit LED push buttons for the front and rear flood lights (rears connected, front are KC's that come with the truck but not mounted), and the high/low windshield wiper speed settings.  I retained the pull knob for the marker/head lights (although the pull knob is new).  There is even a 12 volt auxiliary plug in the dash for a cell phone/mp3 charger, etc.  A modern rear view mirror with dual map lights was also fitted for night time convenience.  New LED tail lights and side marker lights just look awesome at night, as do the new aftermarket front marker lights and housings (these are the high quality Japanese replacements).  New starter, plugs, wires, rotor, etc. for smooth motoring.  Four wheel disc brake conversion, braided steel brake lines with a brake force distributor for safely stopping the NEW 35 inch Goodyear Wrangler tires I just put on the truck (about 60 miles on them - except for the never used 5th spare that sits on the equally new baja tire rack.  Power steering conversion as well with a heavy duty power steering cooler mounted in front of the new heavy double duty radiator.  This Cruiser is NOT covered in diamond plate, rather it is an all aluminum body tub that rests from the firewall back; transmission hump, floorboards, etc. all aluminum.  The metal up front is all original and rust free, professionally painted in 2011.  The frame is also professionally custom made (made by Powell Racing) and runs aft of the front engine mounts, square tube, triple painted black, complete with drain slits.  The rear bumper is actually part of the frame with a 2 inch receiver built into it as well.  Not that you would want to hang the truck from a tree...but knowing that you could.  The suspension is Rancho RS5000s paired with "Old Man EMU" brand: 6 inch lift off-road leaf springs.  Hunsaker racing seats and RJ 5 point racing harnesses keep you safe and comfortable.  Both seats also slide and recline.  For tunes, I hooked up a simple yet effective Aiwa radio (AM/FM/CD/with a front 3.5mm input jack) to a pair of NEW Rockford Fosgate PUNCH aluminum wake-boarding speaker cans.  The cans are two-way separates (mid-ranges/tweeters) and can handle plenty of power if you so desire to hook-up an amp capable of supplying them.  They come with their weather zip-sacks as can be seen in some of the pictures.  I recently finished-out some detail work on the Cruiser including blacked-out Land Cruiser badging on the front quarter panels and a Toyota badge on the rear right.  I figured since I was selling her, she might as well take everything with her.

Also included are a set of soft half doors, a set of soft full doors, two bikini tops (one bikini is brand new) and the original full soft top.  The original full top, although complete, is old and dingy and does not do the truck justice when fitted.  The original rear view mirror, dash pads, original dash pull-switches, aftermarket license plate bracket, Land Cruiser books/manuals/bible, new hard door pins, the original front and rear heat radiators, vent/radiator housing, blower motor, etc.  I removed the heater with the idea that an 8 inch sub-woofer would someday occupy that space.  The blower motor and radiators are in fine working condition. I even have an all aluminum tail gate that closes off the rear of the truck when wanted or fitting the full top to the truck.   All other miscellaneous parts I have will also been included - the only parts I can not find are the windshield wiper arm sleeves that were removed when the truck went to be painted.  I have not missed them because the truck has never seen rain...or mud or been off-road for that matter.  The pictures speak for themselves.

The Cruiser is located in London, Ohio (about 20 minutes west of Columbus). If close and serious enough, I welcome interested buyers to come and see her.  I stand behind my truck as I do my reputation.  Check my feedback and bid with complete confidence.  Please write with any questions; if you are a serious buyer I will give you my phone number or give me yours with good times to call.

~John Goubeaux.

Toyota sizzle reel gives better look at i-Road Geneva concept

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Toyota is taking the tiny tandem Tango to Tron town. In a teaser video for the new i-Road, debuting at the Geneva Motor Show next week, we catch a light-bike-like glimpse of Toyota's quirky tandem-seat concept. We still don't know much about the vehicle itself, but the video does flash the words "fun, compact, emissions-free," which suggests this is an electric ride. Then comes the apparent tagline: "i Roll, i Rock i Road." An indication that the tilting image we see in the video isn't just a special effect, perhaps? We'll have to wait until we get to Switzerland next week to find out. Until then, you can watch the video below.
In more earthly reveals, Toyota will also show off its hotly anticipate FT-86 Open sports car concept and Auris Touring Sports wagon on its Geneva show stand.

Toyota SEMA concepts promote active lifestyles, rallying [w/video]

Thu, 31 Oct 2013

Toyota has six vehicles that it's bringing to the Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show next week, all of which were developed by and for people who live active lifstyles. Four of them are the result of the Toyota Dream Build Challenge, which tasked a team of athletes and vehicle customization shops to build Toyota sedans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles in seven weeks that would enhance performance in their respective sports.
We'll lead off with the CamRally Camry, developed by NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman, Kyle Busch Motorsports and Mooresville, NC shop Detroit Speed, Inc. for the Dream Build Challenge, because it appeals to us gearheads (sure, call us one-sided). It was totally transformed into a rally vehicle, and it has to be the most badass Camry we can remember seeing. The sedan is always a bit flaccid-looking in stock form, but the CamRally's wide body and other exterior upgrades and the turbocharger make us forget about that, as do its stripped, painted interior and Sparco race seat.

Toyota mulling Cummins diesel for Tundra?

Mon, 02 Sep 2013

When Bloomberg spoke to Toyota USA Sales CEO Kazua Ohara recently, we highlighted his comments on the possible return of the Toyota Supra. However, the interview started with Ohara discussing the Tundra, and how it would take time to pinpoint and hone the pickup truck's brand image in the minds of consumers. That effort could get a boost, with a report in Edmunds saying that Toyota is "evaluating" the addition of a Cummins turbodiesel to the Tundra's engine options.
The Cummins powerplant is one of two options for the moment, the other being a hybrid powertrain. If the oil-burner got the thumbs-up, Toyota would follow the recent example of Nissan, which announced it would put a Cummins turbodiesel into its 2015 Titan. While the two Japanese companies make a closer comparison since they're both talking about Cummins applications in light-duty trucks, if it happens, it could be seen as further diluting the once-exclusive tie-up that Ram trucks has had with Cummins even though Ram has used Cummins in its heavy-duty truck.
Toyota hasn't said when it will decide on which direction to take, but either will be a move for the better in the view of segment watchers; PickupTrucks.com said the first of its top-five fixes for the Tundra would be a better engine, perhaps a diesel-electric hybrid from Toyota's Hino unit. Cummins told Edmunds it can supply a second manufacturer with the 5.0-liter diesel that Nissan will be using, so we wouldn't be surprised to see it end up in a Toyota or somewhere else.
