1976 Toyota Land Cruiser Fj40 Beautiful Brand New Stock Original Restoration on 2040-cars
West Richland, Washington, United States
Toyota Land
Cruiser restoration shop is proud to offer this just completed restored 1976
FJ40. This truck is an original stock
high end restoration. Toyota original parts used. I’ve restored dozens of Cruisers to this level
as seen on the photo bucket link; many have been sold at the high end auction
houses, this one on the open market for everyone to have a chance to buy. The
picture link and last picture on this add show this truck the day I bought it
until completion last week. I see quite a few restored Cruisers on eBay with
incredible prices, but rarely see any of them with pictures of before/after.
You can see exactly what I started with and the entire build process. I only
restore 1975-83 FJ40’s that are original body, numbers matching, original or
mostly original paint and 98% rust free or better. The end result is so much
better than a vehicle with mis-matched parts or serious rust issues. If you
want a blue chip investment FJ40, this is your vehicle. The auctions have sold
similar FJ40’s from 80-101k recently, this truck has the same quality at a
better price without the hassle of auction or their fees. You are buying from
the shop that built this truck, not a vehicle purchased at auction, then up for
re-sale at a huge mark-up, quite a few of those on eBay lately. Customer builds
like this typically take 1-2 years, buy this brand new restoration and enjoy it
now.

This truck was all original panels, original paint with some primer touch up on flaking areas. I purchased it 99% rust free, mostly stock. When I restore a Cruiser to this level, I buy everything I can from Toyota. For example, the hard top seal costs $260 from Toyota, or $50 from aftermarket. The difference in quality is incredible, I just want to make the point I use the good stuff, there is a major quality difference from Toyota vs. most aftermarket items. I buy every good stock 75-83 FJ40 I can find, with the surge of popularity it’s getting very hard to find good units to restore. I seem to only get them word of mouth from people in very rural areas these days.
Rather than list every part that was rebuilt or replaced, I will say this truck has been refurbished bumper to bumper. The pictures on the link show the process. This 1976 model features the better inline six 2F motor, 4 speed transmission, front disc brakes, fine spline axles with a 4.10 gear set (only available 76-78) a High/Low transfer case for 4x4. This truck has all the emissions components in place. The tires are BFG KM2’s size 31/10.5/15. I added a better than new original type tool kit, all Toyota tools, added a Toyota grease gun. (Last one I have) only have seen a few ever. Factory 12V working lamp included in glove box. The paint job is better than Toyota did back in 76. Painted Toyota 031 correct code for this year. Modern paint is much better than they had in 76; unfortunately the bad paint in the production era of these trucks led most of them to serious rust issues. Rust issues are the most important concern on any FJ40, this truck was 99% rust free, only metal replacement was the rear sill lip (most common rust area) I have the equipment and made a new steel replacement and welded it in. All the metal was stripped of all primer and paint, no rust hiding anywhere. These trucks are somewhat crude from the factory, you will see factory dimple spot welds in the panels, I leave them that way, so you will still see them and know the panels are original. This truck is ready for your car show, ready to drive and enjoy now. We give great attention to detail, we have restored dozens of Cruisers to better than new quality, there are quite a few on the photo bucket link to check out from 1st year FJ45 trucks to last year 83 FJ40’s. I’ve figured out what works with these legendary trucks over the years of restoring them. There is a difference between an old vs. brand new restoration. Every time I list an FJ40 like this for sale I’m asked what is better, original restoration or custom builds? My answer….depends what your idea is. If you are looking for a show vehicle that you can drive, that will also appreciate in value, a stock original restored FJ40 can’t be beat. There are several outfits that take a FJ40 frame and title pre-1976 to make a custom truck to avoid SMOG and licensing issues. I’ve seen price tags on those up to $250,000. I believe they will go the same way all the custom choppers of 10 years ago that sold around $100,000 now sell around $10,000. Don’t buy the fad for investment purposes. Nothing beats original in any vintage vehicle, especially an FJ40. If you like a one off truck and dropping a huge pile of cash is no problem, get a custom, but don’t be fooled it will retain its value. I’ve built dozens of customs myself, if you spend 40-50k on one, not a big loss, if you spend 150-250k on one, I hope you plan to keep it forever. Quote from Hemmings “The Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser will become the next Volkswagen 21-Window Samba bus. In the past three years, prices for restored Volkswagen buses have shot through the roof, with the rarest examples consistently realizing six-figure prices at auction. A similar phenomenon is beginning to happen with Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers; once a rare sight at high-end auctions, their presence has become expected, and prices for well-preserved or meticulously restored examples have risen accordingly. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if an exceptional FJ40 topped $100,000 at auction in 2014. UPDATE January 2014, RM sold an FJ40 for $101,820”
I require a non-refundable $1500 deposit on this vehicle immediately after auction conclusion. The remainder within 5 days wire transfer only to my business. I have a clean clear WA state title in hand. The vehicle or title do not leave my possession until paid in full. I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction, I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in my local phone book. I invite you to view this truck in person during the auction; I will pick you up at my local airport. I give every chance for viewing during the auction, if you win the auction you are expected to pay, no 1st look or excuses on deposit. eBay bidders with less than 10FB must email phone # before bidding. I do reserve the right to end the auction at any time for any reason, these mint Cruisers usually sell before the auction end, I will listen to serious offers. Please understand this type of truck and restoration take an incredible amount of time and money, this is not an entry level vehicle, this is for a serious collector. Reserve will not be disclosed. I have a shipping broker whom has shipped dozens of Cruisers for me, I will pass his info to you. He only does lower 48. I can get this truck to Hawaii via Matson shipping from Seattle. Seattle is 5 hours away from me, will transport to the dock in my enclosed trailer, or same dock to Alaska via Alaska Marine Lines. I’ve done this several times, real easy. International shipping from the Seattle dock can be arranged as well. Thanks…and Happy Bidding! I’m building a 1976 FJ40 complete high end build that will look stock, but have a small lift, 33 in BFG’s, power steering, fire engine red/white. May be on eBay or Mecum Seattle in June. Rolling chassis in the background pics. I just bought a 1981 Canadian LHD BJ42 with the 3B diesel. I plan to do a high end mostly stock restoration. Not stock will be a small lift 33 in BFG’s, power steering, turbo. This will be a total frame off best in the world Diesel BJ. I plan to get to it in the next month, will pre-sale and build how you want. This is expensive all the way around, but if you want the rarest of Cruisers and a top notch build this may be for you. I’ve never seen any mint restored BJ series at any auction. Fj 40 landcruiser bj40 bj42 fj45 |

Recharge Wrap-up: Mazda, Subaru and Toyota PHEV, Nomadic Power grant
Sat, Jun 20 2015The next generation of the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid looks to be important for Mazda and Subaru as well. Toyota will likely need to sell more of the new plug-in hybrid to meet stricter ZEV standards in California. That means it will get more extra electric range, as customers have been asking for. Subaru and Mazda will also have to adhere to the California standards beginning in 2018. Those two smaller automakers will likely license a plug-in hybrid powertrain from Toyota in order to fulfill compliance. Read more at Green Car Reports. Tesla is partnering with Dalhousie University to improve battery technology. Tesla signed a five-year research agreement with Dalhousie's Jeff Dahn, a lithium-ion battery researcher. Dahn and the 25 researchers in his lab will work with Tesla's Director of Battery Technology, Kurt Kelty, to increase capacity through improved materials. The collaboration could be important both for Tesla's automotive and stationary batteries. "Our research group's goal is to increase the energy density and lifetime of Li-ion batteries, so we can drive down costs in automotive and grid energy storage applications," says Dahn. Read more from Dalhousie University. Nomadic Power is receiving a European Commission grant worth ˆ2 million (about $2.26 million) for trailer-mounted mobile batteries. Nomadic Power's mobile batteries, called Nomads, have incorporated photovoltaic systems and can be used to extend the electric driving range of a plug-in vehicle, or to provide backup power to a home. The Nomads use an intelligent energy management system to learn and predict user behavior and manage the solar system based on weather forecasts. "We see a strong future in electric-powered mobility and an increasing use of renewable energy, photovoltaic power in particular," says Nomadic Power CEO Dr. Manfred Baumgaertner. "Our mobile batteries have great potential in these markets that recently got a significant shot in the arm by Tesla's announcements." Read more from Nomadic Power, and at Green Car Congress. Toyota settles for $3M after being found liable in sudden acceleration case
Sat, 26 Oct 2013A jury has decided that faulty software was to blame for a crash involving a 2005 Toyota Camry that killed one woman and injured another. This is the first time Toyota has been found liable by a jury in a lawsuit involving sudden acceleration claims. Toyota has maintained that driver error is the most likely cause for cases of sudden acceleration.
Shortly after the jury in the case, which took place in Oklahoma and centered around a crash that injured 76-year-old Jean Bookout and killed her passenger, Barbara Schwarz, reached a verdict that would see Toyota paying $3 million in compensatory damages, a confidential settlement was reached. The jury, which had found Toyota liable for "reckless disregard" for public safety, had yet to decide what punitive damages Toyota would face.
Toyota said in a statement, "While we strongly disagree with the verdict, we are satisfied that the parties reached a mutually acceptable agreement to settle this case. We will continue to defend our products vigorously at trial in other legal venues."
VW targeting 10M sales in 2014
Sun, 16 Mar 2014Volkswagen Group believes it can sell over 10 million vehicles in 2014, with hopes of overtaking Toyota as the world's largest automaker in the process. If VW can do it, it would meet that goal four years earlier than planned. Of course, Toyota isn't sitting still - it also hopes to top the 10 million-car threshold this year and has the advantage of already holding the top spot.
"With rising volume and new models, we will increasingly see positive earnings effects as well," said VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn during its annual press conference, according to Automotive News. The company is spending huge amounts of money to propel it to the top, investing 84.2 billion euros ($117 billion) through 2018, and according to AN it plans to introduce over 100 new models worldwide among all of its brands by the end of next year.
The German automaker may get an extra boost as the European car industry shows signs of emerging from its yearlong stagnation and China continues to grow. In January, VW Group was up 8.5 percent in Europe and 15.5 percent in China, according to its own figures. However, the US has been slowing with Volkswagen brand sales down 19.04 percent in January and down 13.81 percent in February.
