Want to crush my dreams?  Buy this fantastic FJ40.  I'm military and have moved to a new house without a garage.  The wife says it has to go even though I had every intention for keeping this for the rest of my life.

It is a 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40- Extensive professional restoration completed in April of 2010.

Under the hood- The original 2F inline six cylinder engine was completely rebuilt by Mack Weld (highly respected builder) using top quality components including factory intake and exhaust valves, dome pistons etc. The Block was bored .30 over and the heads milled to perfection, then balanced and blue printed. The valve cover, intake manifold, and thermostat housing were all media blasted then powder coated for great looks and a durable finish. A Man-A-Fre hi performance kit was added, including ceramic coated two piece headers, complete exhaust, a 38 mm Weber carburetor with an electric choke, K&N hi flow air filter, HEI distributor/ coil, and top of the line spark plugs and wires. Finished with all new hoses, water pump, Performance Cooling all aluminum radiator, chrome overflow container, fuel pump, battery and much more. The motor has less than 5000 miles on it since the rebuild, proper break in procedures have been followed.

Steering- Heavy duty and very tight Saginaw power steering and axle mounted dampener used in conjunction with a shackle reversal kit provide a safer and more controlled driving experience. Axles/suspension/ tires - Factory axles with 4:10 gear ratio, and disc brake front end. Rebuilt Warn hubs, new brake pads. Outer bearings checked and repacked with synthetic grease. 4” lift springs from TPI and greaseable anti-inversion shackles.  35x12.5x15 B.F. Goodrich Mud terrains mounted on white spoke steel wheels. The Factory 4speed transmission and transfer case are in excellent condition, it shifts with ease and no slop. All fluids in the cases and axles have been replaced with synthetic blend fluids.

Body- Excellent rust free body from Arizona that has been repainted in high gloss single stage acrylic (better than factory) in the factory beige color (code 464). The undercarriage is coated with rust prohibiting paint and 3M undercoating. The fender wells, underside of the hood, and engine compartment are coated with an extra layer of 3M rocker panel guard type material that reduces chips, heat, and noise. The interior floor has been coated with a heavy duty textured liner that is far more durable than paint. It has the factory roll bar, and factory front and rear bumpers.  Rear fender flares help protect the paint from debris thrown from the tires and allow extra clearance for the tires while articulating off road. Stainless steel bolts, door hinge pins, and washers are used throughout the vehicle. They make it easier to make adjustments, and to take the top and doors off without chipping the paint off of the bolts and surrounding paint.  All of the seals needed to take the hard top on or off were replaced with new factory seals. New factory emblems too!

Interior- The front and rear jump seats are in perfect condition with new pads, hardware, seat belts, and covers from Spector off road. All new door seals.  It has a new dash cover and a new headliner.  All of the gauges, lights (selectable rear lights, upgraded interior and headlights), vents, door locks, and blowers work perfectly. This Land Cruiser comes with the original owners manual and has an extensive file of receipts that document the restoration.

It is extraordinarily expensive to restore a vintage Land Cruiser to this standard. I have the original tire carrier and the original back jump seats (all items included in sale).  I replaced the jump seats with a bench seat so I could drive the kids around (they love it!). I also added seat belts to the bench seat.  There is no radio or A/C!  A lot of people ask... yes it easily does highway speeds (I just would not personally get this vehicle if you plan on going on the highway for long distances).  I seldom have taken it on the highway and it has not seen any serious off road duty.  Top has never been off.

While this FJ40 is not perfect, it is a fantastic by for the money.  I would prefer to sell this to someone that can come take a look at it.  Thanks for looking!

Toyota is world's top-selling automaker for second year in a row

Sun, 26 Jan 2014

Toyota is the top-selling automaker in the world. Again. Still. With total reported sales, including those from subsidiaries, of 9.98 million in 2013, Toyota's performance was enough to outpace rival General Motors by around 270,000 vehicles. That's a 2.4-percent gain over 2012, and it makes Toyota the top-seller two years in a row. Still, the gap between the top three is shrinking - Toyota held a 460,000-unit lead in 2012.
GM sold 9.71 million vehicles last year, a four-percent increase, coming in second place ahead of Volkswagen, which sold around 9.5 million. According to Bloomberg, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda said his company managed to win the sales race while also remaining more profitable than GM or VW.
It's going to be another interesting year in 2014 as the three behemoth automakers vie for the title of World's Largest. Toyota has predicted that it will increase sales in 2014 to 10.32 million - which would make Toyota the first automaker ever to surpass 10 million global sales - though General Motors and VW are expected to again fight for the lead in the massive Chinese market. Stay tuned.

Scion was Toyota's lost generation

Sat, Feb 6 2016

Toyota's top North American leader was succinct in explaining the reasons for killing Scion. "It's the right decision at the right time," Jim Lentz said. It's hard to disagree. In a strong market that saw 17.5 million sales last year, Scion volume dipped three percent. Its product lineup has withered for years, which is always a telltale sign a brand doesn't have the full support of its owner. Though enthusiasts love the FR-S sports car, it's the fruit of a joint project with Subaru that also produced the BRZ. Scion's coolest car has a twin sold by one of its rivals. After the FR-S launched in 2012, Scion got nothing – squat – in the way of new products until the iA and iM arrived late last year, IHS senior analyst Stephanie Brinley noted. "[Scion] was not successful in building a visual brand identity or product personality," she said. Lentz, Scion's first vice president and now CEO of Toyota's North American division, admitted the market has changed. "Younger customers have a different mindset," he said. In the early oughts, a brand that catered to a youthful demographic made some sense, and this is one front where Toyota can declare victory. Seventy percent of Scion's buyers were new to Toyota, and the average age was 36 years old. The problem is, not enough of them buy Scions anymore. Scion hit a highwater sales mark of 173,034 vehicles in 2006 and hasn't come close to reaching that since. The recession hurt Scion, too. It bottomed out in 2010 with just 45,678 sales, a time when the rest of the industry was beginning to recover. There was a brief uptick (73,507) in 2012, but Scion failed to capitalize on that momentum and sales fell for three more years. Toyota is calling Scion's pending death a "transition" back to the main company. Sure, most of the cars will be rebadged Toyotas, like the FR-S, iA, and iM. The C-HR, an attractive future crossover that would have given Scion a boost, will go into production as a Toyota. But make no mistake: This is a failure. Toyota is closing a brand in the same way General Motors scrapped Oldsmobile, Ford shuttered Mercury, and Chrysler dropped Plymouth. Those brands languished for years. Toyota moved quicker to put the fork in Scion, which prevented it from becoming a long-term drain on the parent company. Lentz was dead on. It's the right time. The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers

Fri, Jun 24 2016

It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
