1976 Toyota Fj40 Land Cruiser on 2040-cars
Spearfish, South Dakota, United States
Great original, uncut 1976 FJ 40. Original owner from Idaho, did absolutely no mods to the Cruiser except had a sunroof installed profesionally the same year he bought it. Sunroof does NOT leak at all! Original headliner still looks perfect. Eventually sold to a couple who ranch in Wyoming. They kept the Cruiser original except for adding fender flares WITHOUT cutting the fenders. Fenders are uncut and original. They also installed diamond plate. I have removed the fender flares and diamond plate in the interest of full disclosure. There is some rust in the rear bottom corners and rear sill, though not nearly as bad as some I have seen. Easily repairable. This Cruiser has way less than the normal rust. I injured my knee last fall and have been rehab all winter so haven't done anything to it other than put new tires on it. Still has the caked Wyoming dirt on drivers side floor. So in the pics you are seeing dirt, NOT rust! Now it has to go because at age 56 my knee is not healing as it should and I just can't work on vehicles anymore. I drove it 370 miles from Wyoming to my home in South Dakota. The floor boards front and back are all solid. Some surface rust on rear bed I have pictured, but NOT cancerous rust thru. The drivers side floorboards still have the sound batting that was commonly installed in the 1970's. Mechanically runs great! Transmission shifts smoothly, four wheel drive works great, engine starts and runs awesome. No cracked or broken glass. As I said, I drove it from Wyomng 370 miles with no problems. I purchased the following NEW parts that will go with the vehicle: A. 2 1/2 inch ProComp suspension lift springs B. 4 New ProComp Shocks C. New Black Shock Boots D. New U Bolts E. New Bushings F. New SkyJacker Steering Stabilizer. G. New Dash Pad New parts total over $1100 plus $800 for the New 33 x 10.50 x 15 BFG All Terrain KO's Shipping is your responsibility, but I am happy to assist your shipper by being available whenever needed. Vehicle is for sale in other venues so I reserve the right to end the auction early if vehicle is no longer available for sale. Is 120 miles just about perfect for EV range?
Tue, Apr 15 2014When it comes to battery-electric vehicles, our friend Brad Berman over at Plug In Cars says 40 miles makes all the difference in the world. That's the approximate difference in single-charge range between the battery-electric version of the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Leaf. It's also the difference between the appearance or disappearance of range anxiety. The 50-percent battery increase has zapped any lingering range anxiety, Berman writes. The RAV4 EV possesses a 40-kilowatt-hour pack, compared to the 24-kWh pack in the Leaf. After factoring in differences in size, weight and other issues, that means the compact SUV gets about 120 miles on a single charge in realistic driving conditions, compared to about 80 miles in the Leaf. "The 50 percent increase in battery size from Leaf to RAV has zapped any lingering range anxiety," Berman writes. His observations further feed the notion that drivers need substantial backup juice in order to feel comfortable driving EVs. Late last year, the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), along with the Consumers Union estimated that about 42 percent of US households could drive plug-in vehicles with "little or no change" in their driving habits, and that almost 70 percent of US commuters drive fewer than 60 miles per weekday. That would imply that a substantial swath of the country should be comfortable using a car like the Leaf as their daily driver - with first-quarter Leaf sales jumping 46 percent from a year before, more Americans certainly are. Still, the implication here is that EV sales will continue to be on the margins until an automaker steps up battery capabilities to 120 or so miles while keeping the price in the $30,000 range. Think that's a reasonable goal to shoot for?

General Motors became second-largest US advertiser in 2013
Fri, 28 Mar 2014General Motors might be mired in several recalls, as well as the ongoing investigations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Congress into the automaker's response to those recalls. However, the company can celebrate taking the title of the US' second-largest advertiser in 2013. According to Ad Week examining a recently released study, total advertising spending in the US posted its fourth consecutive year of rising expenditures with 0.9-percent growth to $140.2 billion. Of that, the auto industry spent $15.2 billion to promote its goods in 2013, up 3.8 percent.
The country's biggest advertiser was Procter and Gamble, which dropped $3.17 billion in 2013, an increase of 11.8 percent. GM became the nation's second largest promoter with $1.794 billion in spending, up 10 percent. The biggest proportion of that money went to sell Cadillac and GMC. AT&T barely lost out with $1.793 billion in advertising, 15.2 percent growth. The 10 businesses with the highest ad investments spent a cumulative $15.9 billion during the year, 6.6 percent higher than 2012. Toyota came in eighth place making it the only other automaker to rank in the top 10.
The study also indicates that there is a shift in advertising spending from television and print to the Internet. There was 15.7 percent more money outlaid to promote products online in 2013 than the previous year. In comparison, television dropped 0.1 percent, newspapers were down 3.7 percent and radio fell 5.6 percent.
