Looks like I have too many projects according to my family so I am selling my pride and joy.  A 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser.  I looked for almost 10 years to find one like this.  All original with the 2F motor and one that hadn't been lifted or chopped up.  Basically a stock FJ40 that I could restore.  The owner before me had this vehicle for 15 years and was a toyota fanatic! Anytime a part was needed he only replaced it with a Toyota OEM part, even if it had to come from Africa or Australia!  I have tried to do the same in the parts I have added.  I only run Mobile 1 oil and have the local off road shop which services ALOT of FJ's in the area take care of it.  The mechanic I had check it out originally before I purchased it said it was the strongest running FJ they had ever had in their shop.  It runs like a top and turns over 1st time. Pretty awesome for an original 2F engine. FJ friends of mine tell me that with proper maintenance there is no telling how long it will go!  In the last two years I have owned it, I have made the following improvements or repairs:

New upholstery
All seat frames sandblasted and powder coated
New Cool Cruisers center console
New Australian floor mat across the front
Clutch and hydraulics Re-done
New BF Goodrich All Terrain TA's (31 X 10.50) Including the spare!
New shifter knobs
New visors
New front turn signals
New bumpers, front and rear
New front Toyota emblem
Purchased Land Cruiser, 4 wheel drive, and Toyota badges.  Have not installed.  Will include them
New 4 wheel shifter boot

This vehicle has very little rust and with a paint job and a little bit of work, it would be a solid FJ for years to come.  It already turns heads, I can't imagine what it would do with new paint!  E-mail or call me with any questions. steve@ironhorsecb.com or 970-401-5355 I am listing the vehicle locally as well so whoever comes to the table first wins! Happy Bidding!

Report: Daihatsu leaving European market

Sun, 16 Jan 2011

More than any other, two carmaking giants sit at the top of the industry: Toyota and General Motors. But while GM sells under a (shrinking but still) expansive range of brands, the Toyota Motor Corporation sells most of its vehicles under its own name. That doesn't mean that Toyota, however, doesn't have its own portfolio of subsidiaries. Here in the United States we have the youth-oriented Scion division, while Lexus handles its upscale offerings, and overseas there's Daihatsu.
The budget brand offers a range of small cars under its own name; most are hatchbacks, but there's also the Copen roadster and even a rebadged Camry called the Altis. You may have come across some of their offerings while traveling overseas, particularly in Europe, but that last part is about to come to an end, according to reports.
Word from across the pond is that Toyota plans to withdraw Daihatsu from the European market altogether. The move would reportedly take effect in 2013, and if it comes to pass, would follow similar withdrawals from the North American (1992) and Australian (2006) markets. Thanks for the tip, William!

Toyota To Stop Building Cars In Australia

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Toyota said Monday it will stop making cars in Australia by the end of 2017, spelling a final blow to auto manufacturing in the country, where car companies say high production costs and tough competition have crippled business conditions. Toyota's announcement, which will result in the loss of around 2,500 jobs, was widely anticipated, coming just two months after General Motors Co. said it would end production in Australia by 2017. Ford Motor Co. announced in May that it would cease Australian production in 2016. All told, some 6,600 manufacturing jobs will be lost between the three companies. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. stopped manufacturing in Australia in 2008. Toyota Motor Corp. said its decision was based on a combination of factors including the high Australian dollar, the high cost of manufacturing and competition. "We did everything that we could to transform our business," Toyota Australia CEO Max Yasuda said in a statement. "But the reality is that there are too many factors beyond our control that make it unviable to build cars in Australia." Toyota President Akio Toyoda delivered the news to workers at the company's Altona plant near Melbourne, where he paid tribute to 50 years of Toyota cars being built in Australia. "To now have to deliver this news to the very people we have worked so hard with, to the many people who have supported our production for so many years, is most regretful for Toyota and, for me personally, simply heartbreaking," he said. Toyota, which has been manufacturing cars in Australia since 1963, currently makes the Camry, Camry Hybrid and Aurion in the country. It will become a sales company. Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane said Toyota had not asked the government for any financial assistance in the lead-up to its decision. The government had subsidized auto manufacturing, hoping to keep the industry alive as it supports tens of thousands of jobs in other areas including auto parts. Holden, which is the Australian arm of GM, received 1.8 billion Australian dollars ($1.6 billion) in federal government assistance in the past 11 years. Auto makers in Australia produced about 178,000 cars in 2012, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers. Toyota recalls 4,000 Tacoma pickups over valve springs

Thu, 07 Nov 2013

When you build as many cars and trucks as Toyota does, you're bound to run into the occasional recall. In the past month alone, the Japanese auto giant has recalled over 800,000 Camry, Avalon and Venza models over problems with the air-conditioning units, and 10,000 more before that over windshield wiper issues. Now Toyota has issued another recall notice, but this time for far fewer vehicles.
The recall revolves around the engine valve springs in the 2013 and 2014 Tacoma, specifically those fitted with the standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine and not the optional 4.0-liter V6. The issue is that the valve springs are prone to cracking and breaking over time, and results from improper maintenance of the manufacturing equipment used by one of the two suppliers that outfit Toyota with the components in question.
All told, some 4,000 vehicles will be subject to the voluntary recall, the owners of which will receive notice by mail. If you think that could be you and want to get a jump on the problem, you can read the announcement below and call Toyota yourself.
