Number of Cylinders: 6
Drive Type: 4WD
Transmission: Manual-4 speed Condition: Excellent Exterior: Black Jade Metallic Interior: Cream This iconic Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser was purchased in Moscow Idaho in July 1976 for $6,425, and remained in the same ownership for the next 28 years. The second owner undertook a total frame off restoration, including a complete sanding and repainting of the frame, body, roof, original factory wheels (to match the roof and interior color), new leather interior, “BDS Lift Kit,” all-terrain “Big O A / T Big Foot” tires and “Pacer” polished alloy wheels (the original wheels and tires come with the Cruiser too), wiring harness, servicing of the original factory winch (driven directly from the transfer case, known as a powered take off “P.T.O.” as it is powered from by the engine). The “safari roof rack” was also added as hardtop enhancement furthering the roughed off-road look of the Cruiser. A deep black metallic jade was chosen for the exterior and interior metal and light cream for the removable hardtop, factory wheels and leather seats, resulting in refined overall look and feel to the Cruiser. With the odometer showing approximately 49,000 miles and the engine running strong and without issues, its condition only required a cleaning with a change of plugs, filters and oil. It retains the original 4.2 Liter Inline 6 Cylinder 258 cubic inch displacement gasoline engine, with a 2-barrel carburetor and 4-speed manual transmission. The engine starts immediately and runs well, and has excellent power and torque. The 4-speed transmission and terrain selector (which adjusts the drivetrain from two to four wheel drive) shift with authority. Having been more interested in the restoration project then using of the vehicle, it remained a part of the second owner’s car collection in Bozeman Montana, seeing limited use, for two years. The third owner purchased the Cruiser while on vacation at Big Sky, Montana and immediately drove it 1,500 miles across the country to his home in northern Michigan. It made the trip flawlessly and continues to remain as mechanically sound as the day it first rolled of the lot in Moscow, Idaho back in July 1976. At some point after June of 2004 and before June of 2006 the odometer was ceased working and was replaced by the third owner. The odometer currently shows approximately 38,000 miles. So we know the odometer is no longer accurate, our belief is the actual mileage is approximately 55,000 miles, but we cannot confirm this. What really sets this vehicle apart is the exceptional attention to detail. Almost all of the original hardware, such as the bolts, nuts, hose clamps, hard lines, and brackets have been maintained (it is only missing the original am/fm radio). The electrical and mechanical items are in perfect working order, 100% rust-free with beautiful seams, gaps and joints. No leaks, no rust and no issues. As the fourth owner we have enjoyed driving the Cruiser this past summer and found it to be trouble free, extraordinarily reliable and the topic of attention wherever we have taken it. Kids in college require its sale so we are looking for a good home to continue the care and enjoyment of the Cruiser. The original paperwork includes: Toyota owner’s manual, factory window sticker, dealer’s price label, EPA fuel estimate, dealer statement of odometer mileage, dealer bill of sale, first owner’s financing/security agreement. Miscellaneous records and invoices from service and restoration also included. Original Toyota issued “patinated” tool kit and wheel-changing tools are also included. In addition, the hard top can be removed and would be perfect for those “bikini top” days in the warmer months. This is a beautiful, investment-grade time capsule in excellent condition. The photos speak for themselves! Original FJ's of this caliber are pretty much non-existent, they're only original once, here's your opportunity... Fly in and drive home (buyer is responsible for Cruiser delivery). |

Mixed sales results, but automaker stocks rise on need for cars in Houston
Fri, Sep 1 2017DETROIT — The Big Three Detroit automakers on Friday reported better-than-expected August sales and issued optimistic outlooks for demand as residents of the Houston area replace flood-damaged cars and trucks after Hurricane Harvey, sending their stocks higher. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted mixed August U.S. sales, with GM up 7.5 percent and Ford and Fiat Chrysler down. Japanese automaker Toyota improved sales by nearly 7 percent, while Honda fell 2.4 percent. Still, analysts focused on the potential for Detroit automakers to cut inventories and stabilize used vehicle prices as residents of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, are forced to replace tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of vehicles after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Mark LaNeve, Ford's U.S. sales chief, told analysts on Friday that following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 "we saw a very dramatic snapback" in demand. That said, Ford sales fell 2.1 percent in August. It sold 209,897 vehicles in the United States, compared with 214,482 a year earlier. Sales were down 1.9 percent in the Ford division and off 5.8 percent at Lincoln. Demand was down for cars, crossovers and SUVs. It was not clear how many vehicles in the Houston area will be scrapped, LaNeve said, saying he had seen estimates ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 to 1 million. Ford's Houston dealers may have lost fewer than 5,000 vehicles in inventory, he said. Ford is the No. 1 automaker in the Houston market, with 18 percent share, according to IHS Markit. The company plans to ship used vehicles to Houston dealers and has "every indication we would have to add some production" of new vehicles to meet demand, LaNeve said. Investor concerns about inventories of unsold vehicles and falling used car prices have weighed on Detroit automakers' shares most of this year. Now, automakers can anticipate a jolt of demand from a big market that is a stronghold for Detroit brand trucks and SUVs. "It's got to be a positive for the industry," LaNeve said. Investors appeared to agree. GM shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to their highest since early March. Ford increased 2.8 percent at $11.34, and Fiat Chrysler's U.S.-traded shares were up 5.2 percent $15.91, hitting their highest in more than five years. GM reported a 7.5 percent increase in U.S. auto sales in August, helped by robust sales of crossovers across its four brands.
Autoblog Minute: VW Q3 financial woes, 2015 Tokyo Motor Show
Fri, Oct 30 2015Consumer Reports pulls its Tesla recommendation, the U.S. Copyright Office offers a ruling affecting car owners, VW gets hit hard with third-quarter losses, and lots of exciting news from Tokyo. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Consumer Reports pulls its Tesla recommendation, the U.S. copyright office offers a ruling that affects car owners and gear heads, VW gets hit hard with third-quarter losses, and lots of exciting news from Tokyo. I'm senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. After a week away testing vehicles for Autoblog's Tech of the Year award, we're back in the office to recap the week in automotive news. [00:00:30] One of the things you might have missed was Consumer Reports pulling its recommendation of Tesla's Model S sedan. The blemish for Tesla comes after a tally of reviews from customer surveys. The most common problem areas for the Model S as cited by survey takers included: the drivetrain, power equipment, charging equipment, body and sunroof squeaks, rattles, and leaks. So lots of stuff. Though they could not ignore a score of "worse-than-average", Consumer Reports still [00:01:00] highlighted the fact that the Model S was "the best performing car" they've ever tested. Telsa CEO Elon Musk took to social media to defend his sedans saying: "Consumer Reports reliability survey includes a lot of early production cars. Already addressed in new cars." And, "Tesla gets top rating of any company in service. Most important, CR says 97% of owners expect their next car to be a Tesla (the acid test)." In Financial news, Volkswagen took a hit and reported an operating loss of [00:01:30] $3.84 billion. This is the first such loss for VW in 15 years. Toyota reclaimed the crown as the world's largest automaker as well. It's important that it's not all doom and gloom for VW though in Q3. Sales revenues were up and the company's automotive division boasts $30 billion dollars in liquid assets. It's a sizable war chest that will no doubt come in handy, as the company has yet to feel the full brunt of the diesel emissions scandal. Good news for gear heads. The US copyright office [00:02:00] ruled in favor of mechanics and car owners by granting an exception to existing copyright law. The law was originally meant to prevent software pirating and bootlegging of Hollywood movies.
Toyota settles complaints with states Attorneys General for $29 million
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Toyota announced today that it has reached a settlement with the Attorneys General of 29 states and one US territory that will resolve their complaints relating to recalls performed by the automaker from 2005-2010, including those related to sticky accelerators and malfunctioning floor mats that may have contributed to cases of unintended acceleration.
The settlement includes a payout of $29 million to be divided among the states and US territory, as well as a commitment from Toyota "to take steps to make vehicle information more easily accessible to consumers to help them operate their vehicles safely and make more informed choices." The settlement also has Toyota continuing its rapid-response service teams and quality field offices that were put in place shortly after the largest of the recalls from 2010, as well as a "range of customer care amenities for owners of vehicles subject to certain recalls," though the press release below isn't specific about what those amenities might be.
This settlement marks the second major step in the last few months that Toyota has taken to settle legal disputes surrounding the unintended acceleration recalls, the first being a $1.4 billion settlement to address economic loss suffered by owners of current and past Toyota vehicles that may have lost value on account of these recalls.
