1976 Toyota Bj40 Land Cruiser Turbo Fj40 Landcruiser on 2040-cars
Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States
For Sale is a Rare 1976 Toyota BJ40 Land Cruiser. This Land Cruiser was originally from Costa Rica. It began as a very straight and solid rust free BJ then a large amount of money was invested to restore/slightly modify at the hands of a professional. Aside from the obvious like the beautiful paint and rust free undercarriage it has other desired options such as: 3B Toyota Engine Garrett Turbo Intercooler Factory PTO Winch Disc Brakes Power Steering 80 Series Land Cruiser style running gear (axles, coil suspension, etc.) Provides for a much smoother ride and suspension travel, great off road capability if desired. The dash and all components is complete and in working order 33 inch tires with about 65% tread on the front and about 55% on the rear Since its arrival in the US it has been a major head turner. It is a blast to drive and will comfortably cruise at highway speeds as far as you want to go. The Garrett Turbo adds to the already impressive 3B Diesel engine and is truly an added bonus. This is a well taken care of beautiful rare classic with great off road potential. As you can tell, it has not been used in that way. I have all the required paperwork for it to be registered in the US and as the buyer, you will be the first registered owner in the United States. This is your chance to own the most desired 4X4 ever made coated in its original iconic red and the ultimate in Land Cruisers, the Diesel engine. Please don't hesitate with any questions and feel free to contact me at any time. On Aug-28-14 at 13:28:11 PDT, seller added the following information: As a courtesy due to interest outside of Ebay, it should be noted that the Land Cruiser is listed locally and I reserve the right to end the Auction at any time. Also, brand new Glow Plugs were installed a few days ago just in time for the cooler months. Again, this BJ starts every time, runs and shifts great. The four wheel drive engages and works as it should with no problems. It is rare to find a diesel Cruiser that is this solid. The frame and body are near perfect with absolutely no rust or bondo in the typical problematic areas on these old Toyotas. The previous owner had extensive restoration work completed from the frame up by a very reputable shop/mechanic. Other Cruisers of this quality bring a premium, not to mention it is a rare factory 3B with a Turbo. Buying a truck like this is a great investment in today's market. I will send any requested photos that I may have missed. Good Luck On Aug-29-14 at 19:14:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Contact: 270-576-1440 acclark01@gmail.com |

Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.
Jay Leno goes offroading with the legendary Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart
Mon, 17 Nov 2014Jay Leno takes a step outside of his cavernous garage for this latest video for a jaunt into the desert to get a little dirty. He meets up with off-road racing legend Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart, who has multiple Baja 500 and 1000 wins in his motorsports career, to play with a Toyota Tundra in the sand.
Unfortunately, Leno doesn't get to interview Stewart too deeply about his long history in racing, but Ironman does talk a little bit about reading the trail while speeding through the desert. In lieu of a great conversation, there is a ton of high-quality footage of the Toyota bounding through the desert.
This clip feels more like a marketing effort than the usual output from Jay Leno's Garage, but it's still great to see Stewart behind the wheel sliding a truck, just like old times. The two of them even take the truck on a somewhat humorous journey at the end of the video.
