1974 Toyota Fj40 Landcruiser
This Fj40 is in excellent condition for its age, mechanically it has been gone thru and completely serviced, it has a new radiator, starter, belts, alternator, brakes, battery, distributor, plugs, wires, 4bbl carb, rebuilt transfer case, all of this work has been done within the last 6 months and I'm sure there is more that I can't remember right now but will add as i think of it. It is also equipped with a recently rebuilt fully operational Warn 8274 winch on a nice winch bumper and I also installed a rear receiver hitch. This 40 is set up with a Kayline soft top, the soft top is definitely showing its age but is still fully functional, it has just drawn up over the years so it could use a new top, the soft doors are in good condition, this soft top set up is the way I've always used it and I drive it during the winter with no problems the heater and defrost works great, I even had the rear heater rebuilt so it stays nice and toasty inside even with the drafty soft top. I do have the complete original hard top and hard doors that are in fair condition, the hard top could be brought back very easily, I bought all the seals that go in the hard top but have never installed because I like the soft top set up better, the hard doors are in fairly rough shape, they are still fully functional but need all new seals and gaskets, however I did run the hard doors for awhile last winter and got the windows, vent glasses and latches functional, when the previous original owner installed the soft top on this 40 over 20 years ago he did not properly store the hard top and doors, the top is not in bad shape it just needs a little TLC, the doors show the worst signs of exposure, one especially is pitted and rusted on the inside panel more so than the other, but as I said they are both still fully operational, the body on the Landcruiser is 98% rust free, it has one small spot on the front left fender and another on the left rear corner, they are very small spots and really seem be to nothing more than flaky paint, this cruiser is not the original color, it used to be baby blue but 20+ years ago the original owner had it painted to its current dark green, when it was painted they did a very good job paying very close attention to detail, however that was 20+ years ago so it is definitely showing its age, you can see a few places where the original color is showing up.
This 40 has a very strong and dependable Chevy 350, it has also been upgraded with power steering and front disc brakes, it has a nearly new set of 33x12.50x15 Super Swamper TSL radials on original factory wheels with factory center caps, the interior is in excellent condition, it has a ccot locking center console with radio slot and two cup holders and a very cool locking steel dash , the seats and seat belts are in very good condition, it has the factory rear jump seats with lap belts, one of the jump seat frames needs to welded but it hasn't been a problem for me so I just haven't gotten to it yet, they are both still fully operational, my kids ride in them all the time, all the lights work as they should, parking brake works, the cigarette lighter plug even works, I've never installed a stereo because I've always used my boss Atv speaker tube with my phone, it works great and is completely waterproof and removable (but not included). This cruiser has spent its entire life in the Memphis Tennessee area and overall is very solid, it could be enjoyed just as it is or easily restored, the only thing that would really be needed to restore it is the seals and headliner on the hard top some light fab work, seals and gaskets on the doors and for the entire thing to be sanded and painted. You can't believe the looks and compliments that this 40 gets, and it is an off road beast,it will go just about anywhere with ease, I really hate to sell it but I currently have 2 H1's and they require a lot of money and attention so I'm afraid my beloved 40 has to go. Please call with any questions but only if you are a serious buyer that is willing to pay a fair price for a solid Fj 40. Thanks 901-870-7216 |

Weekly Recap: Ferrari, Ford and Porsche power up for Geneva
Sat, Feb 7 2015Monday was Groundhog Day. Tuesday, apparently, was Sports Car Day. The Ferrari 488 GTB, the Ford Focus RS and the Porsche Cayman GT4 all debuted within hours of each other ahead of their rollouts at the Geneva Motor Show. Three sporty machines, three vastly different approaches – and a lot of implications for enthusiasts. That's a day worth repeating. It also illustrates the opportunities automakers see in the performance market, which is expected to grow in the coming years. Ford estimates the segment has expanded 14 percent in Europe and surged 70 percent in North America since 2009. The Detroit Auto Show was evidence of this, and performance cars of every stripe debuted, including the Acura NSX, Ford GT, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and several others. This isn't a fad. Performance cars aren't going away. The question is why? Stricter CAFE standards are looming in the United States, as are tighter emissions regulations in Europe. And no one expects gas prices to remain low in America. None of this matters for sports cars, and automakers are increasingly using them to elevate their images. That's why Dodge rolled out two 707-horsepower Hellcats last year. It's why Ford has decided to resurrect the GT for road and track. It's why in the depths of bankruptcy, General Motors continued work on the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, not to mention the Z06. "Great brands are made one car at a time," Ford of Europe president Jim Farley said at the reveal of the Focus RS. Still, companies make those cars for different reasons. View 5 Photos Mainstream brands like Ford and Dodge want to build cars that get people talking, excite their bases and drive more potential customers into the showroom. They probably don't buy a Focus RS or a Hellcat, but suddenly the regular Focus hatch looks a bit hotter, and that V6 Charger seems to be just a touch more muscular. The halo of performance is alive and well in the eyes of automakers and their customers. "It's one of the most effective catalysts for ingenuity and innovation," said Joe Bakaj, vice president of product development for Ford of Europe. That also leads to a trickle-down effect. Some of the technologies inevitably make their way to other products. It's hard to think the new all-wheel-drive system in the Focus RS that distributes torque front to rear and side to side won't be used in other vehicles. It's different for Ferrari and Porsche.
Toyota FCV puts hydrogen fuel cell twist on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Fri, Aug 22 2014You've probably seen your fair share of Ice Bucket Challenge videos online this week, which are meant to raise money to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called "Lou Gehrig's Disease." Hopefully, you've seen ours. We've watched a lot of these videos, but haven't seen one that makes an alt-fuel point quite like a new video from Toyota. Julie Hamp, the CCO of Toyota North America, lost a sister-in-law to ALS last year, so for her the cause is personal. Instead of just dumping icy-cold water on her head, Hamp uses water from the FCV fuel cell vehicle parked next to her. Because, of course, a hydrogen fuel cell car emits nothing but water vapor. Toyota didn't run a lot of hydrogen through the car to collect water, it just got enough to top off the ice bucket. Using the water emissions from a hydrogen vehicle in a creative way is not a new trick. Two years ago, the California Fuel Cell Partnership made the point that you can drink the emissions (just like Mercedes-Benz did earlier this year), but admitted that "fuel cells produce about the same amount of water as gasoline vehicle – about 1/3 cup for a full day of driving." Still, for a good cause, we'll accept the mix of tap water and "emissions." Check out the video below, if you haven't had enough already. This content is hosted by a third party. Toyota sees Camry share loss despite predicting increasing sales
Tue, 02 Apr 2013Toyota may be set to lose share the midsize sedan market. While speaking with Automotive News, Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz said that if his company kept pace with the current swell in the market for family four doors, Toyota would need to sell around 500,000 Camry models. "I'm not sure we can do much more than 400 [thousand] today," Lentz said.
But that doesn't mean Camry sales are shrinking - on the contrary, Lentz thinks Toyota will likely sell more Camry units in 2013 than it did in 2012, it's just that the company isn't keeping pace with segment's current explosion in popularity. Industry wide, midsized sedan sales have increased by 20 percent. "Are we going to lose [Camry] share? Probably so," Lentz said, "but we will continue to grow in raw volume."
Toyota sold 404,886 Camry units last year, and the company just revised its 2013 sales objective from 2.18 million units earlier this year to 2.2-million plus units, so while things are looking up for the brand and Camry sales may be on the rise, Toyota may not have the muscle to keep up its share in the sedan segment. Whether that's because of a production bottleneck or a predicted sales ceiling isn't clear. We've got a call in and will update this news item if/when we learn more.
