1973 Toyota Land Cruiser - FJ40 upgraded with a 2F motor and 4-speed transmission!!  And...

I'm selling one of my projects! Here's the story.  I bought this FJ40 with the idea of restoring it.  It has tons of upgrades and would be a very simple and fast restoration. However, i'm smack in the middle of a different restoration and can't take on another project.   The foundation for this restoration is in place and ready to go.

Here's a few of the key items that enhance this project:

  • 2F motor.  Less than 5,000 miles have been put on the vehicle since the motor swap.
  • 4-speed transmission.
  • New clutch.
  • Alpine XM Radio.
  • Newly rebuilt windshield wiper motor.
  • New SOR rear quarter panels - welded in the rear tub and the body work is complete on these!
  • Brand new OME (Old Man Emu) springs, bushings, lift, and shocks.
  • OME shocks.
  • OME steering stabilizer.
  • Shackle/perch reversal.
  • Brand new SOR rims.
  • Brand new hubcaps.
  • Knuckle rebuild on drivers and passenger side.
  • SOR dash cap.
  • Custom spare tire carrier.
  • Man-A-Fre distributor upgrade.
  • All new electrical lights, side marker lights, headlights and signals.
  • Brand new BFG MT's  33x10.50 x 15 - set of five tires.
  • Brand new window gaskets for the hardtop windows.
  • All gauges, windows, etc are in working condition.
  • Fresh paint  (see note below).
Current condition:
The hard parts of this restoration are done.  Now the only thing left is the body work on the hard top sides, some spots on the front doors, front fenders.  The interior is painted black and in my opinion should match the green exterior.  The cruiser runs amazing and does NOT drip oil or smoke.  Runs like a swiss watch.  Drives tight.

Brakes:
This cruiser has drum brakes on the front and pulls to the right.  Simple fix - replace the drivers side cylinders.

I've disclosed everything I know about this FJ40.  It is in amazing mechanical shape and just needs a little TLC in the way of body work.  Given the upgrades it will easily be a $25K+ valued vehicle when it's done.

Conditions of Sale:
I reserve the right to end this auction early since it's for sale locally.  Please call or text me with questions.  Emails will be answered as I get to them.  I require a $1000 non-refundable deposit via wire transfer, cashiers check or cash.  After I receive the wire transfer, I will FedEx overnight the title to you.  After you receive the title you need to submit the balance of funds due by wire transfer, cash, cashiers check.  ABSOLUTELY NO PAYPAL.  They only protect the buyer.

I'm happy to hold the vehicle for a week or two while you arrange to come get it or ship it.

Recharge Wrap-up: Control Tesla Model S from your wrist, NASCAR's E15 milestone

Mon, Jul 28 2014

Tesla Model S owners can now control their car with Android Wear. A new, free app for the Android wrist devices, called Tesla Command, allows the user to control car functions such as the locks, horn, and sunroof from outside the vehicle. The developer promises more features are coming soon. Watch the video below for a demonstration, or head over to 9 to 5 Google to read more. NASCAR drivers have raced 6 million miles on E15 fuel. The stock car series reached the milestone on July 20 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. NASCAR has been using Sunoco Green E15 gasoline since the start of the 2011 season, which the group credits with increasing horsepower and reducing emissions. The US Department of Energy notably approved the 15-percent corn ethanol blend after 6 million miles of testing. Read more at Domestic Fuel. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has decided to continue its incentive program for alternative fuel vehicles. Buyers of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids with batteries larger than 10 kWh will continue to get a $2,000 rebate (until December 31 or until 500 are sold, whichever comes first). Various EVs with batteries less than 10 kWh, as well as natural gas, propane and hydrogen-powered cars, will get $1,000 back. Electric motorcycles and scooters are offered a $500 rebate. Get more details at ABC 27. Toyota subsidiary Primearth EV Energy is set to expand production of nickel metal hydride batteries for hybrid cars. Due to high demand, production capacity will ramp up from 300,000 to provide batteries for 500,000 vehicles at its Miyagi prefecture plant. The company eventually plans to be able to produce batteries for 1.4 million hybrids per year. Primearth EV Energy currently supplies batteries for the Toyota Prius and Yaris hybrids, as well as Mazda's Axela (AKA Mazda3 in the US) hybrid. Read more at Economic Times. Toyota found not at fault in alleged unintended acceleration crash

Fri, 11 Oct 2013

Toyota has already paid out millions and billions of dollars in settlements surrounding unintended acceleration, but the first lawsuit in the matter, which headed to a California court in July, has reached a verdict. Following the 2009 death of Noriko Uno, whose 2006 Camry was hit by another car and then sped out of control before crashing into a tree, the jury found that Toyota was not at fault in the crash.
Even though the 2006 Camry (shown above) wasn't involved in any of the unintended acceleration-related recalls and it was not equipped with a brake override, Automotive News reports that the jury's verdict says there was no defect in the car and actually blames the entire incident on the driver that ran into Uno's car - to the tune of $10 million. The accident started when the other driver ran a stop sign and hit Uno's car, and the report says that medical conditions (including diabetes) caused Uno to fail to stop her Camry.
The AN article also states that this lawsuit was a bellwether case for around 85 other personal-injury and wrongful-death suits against Toyota, but there are still many impending suits across the country. Scroll down for an official statement on this particular case from Toyota.

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.
