1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55-Inline 6 Nice!

I have up for sale my daily driver and weekend warrior - 1972 Toyota LandCruiser FJ55 featuring the original Inline 6 engine fully rebuilt less than 3 years ago and runs like a top. Only 20K miles since the rebuild and starts/runs like a sewing machine.  4 speed manual shifts smooth through all gears including reverse.  4 inch lift kit paired with 33" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw tires and a brand new new Metallic Silver paint job by Dupont gives this rare FJ55 Cruiser a stunning look!  Brakes stop on a dime and makes for a great work or play truck with reliability and confidence. All body panels are very nice now and frame is solid!  This was important to me and I'm glad I spent the time to find the "right" Cruiser.  Just a few rust repairs corrected in the common areas but overall nice.  I do keep it in garage and baby it.  The interior is in pretty good shape, could use some cosmetic things here and there but overall nice!  The dash and headliner are original so its showing some wear.  Some recent maintenance work completed: new spark plugs, oil/filter change (< 500 miles ago), new tranny fluid/flush, new accelerator and choke cable, air filter, fuel filter, and fuel lines. Rebuilt Holley carb. 1 year ago and brand new Holley fuel pump 2 months ago.  Receipts to follow with the new owner.  This FJ55 is a blast to drive and really gets attention anywhere you may go.

This 1972 Land Cruiser FJ55 is located in Wilmington, NC.  I would be happy to answer any questions you have or feel free to email for additional info.  I can also pass along my cell phone # as well.  Please, NO International Bidding.  This Cruiser is being sold as is, where is.  No warranty expressed or implied.  This FJ55 Cruiser is my daily driver so I know it well and is driving at its best right now.  Please have financing organized (Cash, Wire Transfer, or Certified US Bank Check) before placing bid and transportation in mind.  I would be happy to assist with loading if that is your intention to have it shipped.  It is up to the buyer to cover shipping cost if this is the route you would like to take.  I would like more than anything for this FJ55 to go to a good home.  It has served our family well and easy to maintain.

Thanks for your interest and happy bidding!

Lexus eschews production in China over quality concerns

Sat, 03 May 2014

One of the more popular trends in the auto industry is setting up production operations in China. Mainstream manufacturers like Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen have done it, and even luxury marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have or will soon have manufacturing ops in the People's Republic.
One company that isn't building cars in China, though, is Lexus. The Toyota-owned luxury brand still manufactures all of its vehicles in Japan (aside from a few RXs, which are built at a Toyota factory in Canada). According to Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus just isn't ready to build cars there yet.
"The German Three have a brand image that they have cultivated over the past century in their long history, but Lexus is not in people's minds like that yet," Fukuichi-san told Reuters UK.

Toyota to buck engine downsizing trend, may go larger and turbo-free

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

Turbocharging isn't really Toyota's specialty, and the Japanese automaker isn't being shy about acknowledging it. Koei Saga, a senior managing officer in charge of drivetrain research and development, says that eschewing turbos and increasing displacement of engines using the Atkinson cycle can produce better power gains without sacrificing fuel economy, Automotive News reports.
Toyota is investing heavily in larger-displacement Atkinson-cycle engines in addition to turbocharged engines, but Saga doesn't think the automaker will use turbocharging across many product lines. He apparently remains unconvinced that the technology "makes the world better."
In Toyota's eyes then, Atkinson cycle engines do make the world better, and here's how. Their pistons complete four processes - intake, compression, power and exhaust - in one revolution of the crankshaft, and the power stroke is longer than the compression stroke. Traditional Otto cycle engines require two crankshaft revolutions to accomplish those same four operations and have equal-length compression and power strokes. Atkinson cycle engines are more efficient, but less power dense, though increasing displacement can offset that shortfall.

White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.
