1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 - Inline 6 I’m selling my 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 featuring the upgraded 2F Inline 6 (20K miles on newer engine) and 4 speed transmission combo and a long list of mechanic updates making this one of the most mechanically strong FJ55s out there. This Cruiser will climb any mountain, 4 wheel drive works awesome and has been tested in Western NC. For example, last Winter I completed a 500 mile road trip and got 14+ MPG on the highway – although generally not a MPG figure you see boasted, for an old SUV it’s pretty impressive. I’ll detail the complete list of mechanical updates from the restoration below, 20K invested from start to finish. Exterior wise, what gets the most compliments on my FJ55 is the color: a metallic silver by Dupont that looks especially nice in the sun. Also included and what really completes the look are the gutter mount Yakima roof racks (take off the truck when storing in garage) – the perfect combination and look for this body style and color in my opinion. FYI-the original factory exterior color way was beige lower and white upper half. On the interior is in pretty good condition, you might want to do a few cosmetic things here and there but nice overall. Headliner and dash are original so showing some signs of wear. Restoration process details (completed June 2010; only approximately 20K miles since the engine upgrade) included the following notable mechanical updates: Notable Exterior: Notable Interior: In addition to the restoration components above, the following recent notable items were performed within the two years: As mentioned the cruiser is mechanically superior to any I’ve seen and I would not hesitate to take it on a long road trip. It shifts through all gears smoothly with ease and can cruise comfortably at 65mph on the highway. The goal of this FJ55 Restoration was to have as trouble free daily driver. This model doesn't have A/C, with the back window down and front vents and windows down it generates great air flow through the cabin too. On the note of the back window, for those not familiar this is actually a powered window on the FJ55 – and a costly and hard to fix item if not working properly. Mine works perfectly, operated from the front dash switch. Other items worth pointing out as they are often non-functional in other FJ55’s and/or difficult to fix: ALL lights work including brakes, reverse, side markers, turn signals, hazards, headlights, hi-beams and interior dome light, horn, and window wipers work great. This has been the most positive attention getting vehicle I’ve ever owned or been in, as with the unique body and rareness of the 55 most aren’t quite sure what it is so ask what model or year or just give a thumbs up because it looks cool – if someone does know what it is they’ll stop and chat away. I’m located in Wilmington, NC and can work with the buyer to arrange pickup. If you are going to have the vehicle shipped I can work with you on pick-up arrangements there but shipping cost is not included and is the buyer’s responsibility. Full payment is due within 7 days after auction close. No International Bidding Please. Payment options: cash, wire transfer, or acceptable and US cleared bank cashier’s check. Once all funds are received and verified I will provide the title to the new owner. The North Carolina title is clean and clear and in my name. This is an as is sale with no refunds or warranty provided. Please have your funds in order and/or any financing approved before bidding. I have the right to end auction early if pre-qualified buyer is located.
Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions or would like me to send additional pics. I would be happy to forward my cell # to discuss as well. Good luck and happy bidding!

Toyota CamRally is vanilla spiced
Tue, 05 Nov 2013We weren't quite sure it was possible, but NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman and the other folks behind this Toyota Dream Build Challenge vehicle (check out the other cars in the challenge) have made the Camry, a versatile but vanilla family sedan, into a performance car to be reckoned with. And by stripping it (literally) of its versatility and injecting some spice into it, this rally-spec Camry does indeed appeal to the enthusiast crowd.
The appeal starts with the CamRally's vintage Toyota racing colors of red, orange and yellow painted on a widened body. Those wide fender flares and rocker panels, paired with the revised front and rear fascias (and massive rear spoiler), lend the car an aggressive look without being tacky, and enhance the aerodynamics. But peel back the skin and you'll find plenty of performance upgrades to back up the looks.
While Toyota doesn't say how much horsepower it makes, the CamRally's V6 is turbocharged, and we assume the car's brake upgrade is indicative of the engine's increased output. The stripped interior only contains what's needed for rally racing, including bucket seats, a motorsport steering wheel covered in Alcantara, a carbon-fiber dashboard and a roll cage.

Legal approach in $1.2 billion Toyota settlement could impact handling of GM recall cases
Wed, 26 Mar 2014In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Failing to report or attempting to conceal anything when there's been a death or serious injury constitutes a criminal liability. The idea is that this setup puts the onus on manufacturers to keep NHTSA apprised of safety related issues before they become a problem in the US, thereby allowing the regulator to better protect consumers.
In theory, it sounds like a relatively airtight set of rules for dealing with misbehaving automakers. That didn't stop the US Department of Justice from ignoring TREAD in its prosecution of Toyota's handling of the unintended acceleration recall, though. The result of this new approach, which charged Toyota with wire fraud, was a $1.2 billion settlement. Now, the wire-fraud approach could be used for the expected case between the US government and General Motors, based on the statements of Attorney General Eric Holder, who specifically mentioned "similarly situated companies" when discussing Toyota.
