First off, let me say this is a NO-RESERVE auction, so bid to win!  Bidders with 0 or negative feedback need to first contact me before placing a bid or your bid will be blocked.  A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end.  Full payment is due within 7 days of auction end.  I will only accept payment through Paypal unless you contact me and we agree to an alternative form of payment.  All shipping charges and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.

Up for auction is this 1972 Land cruiser fj55 survivor.  This is completely original from the paint to the radio.  It was bought locally here in Colville Washington and has spent all its life in the area.  I am the fourth owner and there is a collection of original registrations in the glove box dating back to 1972 which shows the previous owners.  The older gentleman I got it from owned it for the last 20+ years and it spent the last 3 years sitting behind his barn where I found it.  After getting it home and adjusting the points it fired up and idled.  It still has very old gas in it that should be drained and I'm sure a tune up wouldn't hurt but it does start right up every time.  I replaced the water pump recently.  It has the original in-line 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed transmission.  The 4 wheel drive works great.  The windshield is cracked and the rear electric window does not operate.  It is complete but the glass is currently rolled down.  All other glass is in excellent shape.  The interior is in excellent shape for its age.  The only thing not original here is the front seat has been re-upholstered and looks great.  The body is very straight and solid with very limited rust issues.  Both front fenders have areas of bubbling on the bottom corners.  Both rear quarter panels and corners have body damage shown in the pictures and video.  The roof, drip rails, rocker panels and floors are solid and straight.  All lights work except for both headlights.  I haven't taken the time to figure that one out yet.  The brakes work but definitely need gone through.  The few times I've driven it around the neighborhood, they pulled to the right.  The tires will need replaced due to age and weathering but they do hold air and I have driven around on them.  This fj55 is equipped with the rare PTO driven 8000 lb. Rhino winch.  I haven't gotten the winch to engage but the PTO does engage and the shaft spins as it should.  Another rare option is the chrome roof rack.  I've only seen one other with this option, it is very cool and in great shape!  All chrome trim is in great shape except for the rear reflectors and the license plate light housing.  If you've been looking for one of these, you know how hard it is to find one in this nice original shape without being modified or restored.  You won't be disappointed with this fj55.  The following is a link to a You-tube video, http://youtu.be/BmNwk_C6vtc
Please ask any questions you have before bidding.  Once again, this is a NO-RESERVE auction so good luck!

After tinkering with the headlights for a bit tonight, they started working.  Seemed to be either corrosion or short in the switch.  So all the lights work now, nice and bright!

Camatte concept puts the Toy back in Toyota [w/videos]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

It's been two years since Toyota first revealed its Camatte show car at the Tokyo Toy Show. Though sadly never destined for production, Toyota brought the concept back the following year as the Camatte 57s roadster, and is now returning to the same show with yet another take on the kid-friendly, configurable 1+2 with interchangeable body panels - this time with a slew of features that are fresh not only to the concept itself, but to the industry altogether.
This year the Camatte is being showcased in two forms: a bare chassis in the Tech Lab that lets kids see the inner workings of a modern automobile, and another in the Design Lab that lets kids draw their own motif for the concept that is then displayed on an LED hood.
The overall approach reminds us of the way Toyota's budget brand Daihatsu unveiled the Kopen roadster concept at the Tokyo Motor Show late last year, only even more kid-focused and decidedly more light-hearted than you might otherwise expect from one of the largest industrial giants in the world, and could only have been made for a toy exposition. In Japan. Which would explain the ridiculously upbeat videos below, where you'll also find the brief press release.

Toyota is world's top-selling automaker for second year in a row

Sun, 26 Jan 2014

Toyota is the top-selling automaker in the world. Again. Still. With total reported sales, including those from subsidiaries, of 9.98 million in 2013, Toyota's performance was enough to outpace rival General Motors by around 270,000 vehicles. That's a 2.4-percent gain over 2012, and it makes Toyota the top-seller two years in a row. Still, the gap between the top three is shrinking - Toyota held a 460,000-unit lead in 2012.
GM sold 9.71 million vehicles last year, a four-percent increase, coming in second place ahead of Volkswagen, which sold around 9.5 million. According to Bloomberg, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda said his company managed to win the sales race while also remaining more profitable than GM or VW.
It's going to be another interesting year in 2014 as the three behemoth automakers vie for the title of World's Largest. Toyota has predicted that it will increase sales in 2014 to 10.32 million - which would make Toyota the first automaker ever to surpass 10 million global sales - though General Motors and VW are expected to again fight for the lead in the massive Chinese market. Stay tuned.

Senator pushes for up to life sentence for auto execs found to delay recalls

Tue, Aug 5 2014

Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill (shown above) has had it with automotive execs stalling when it comes to recalls. The Missiourian has proposed a new bill, the Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety Enhancement Act, which aims to improve the automotive safety following the high-profile fiascos involving General Motors and Toyota. Aside from a doubling of the budget for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over the next six years and the removal of the $35-million limit for fining automakers, the plan includes a provision that would punish auto executives if it's discovered they knowingly delayed recalls. How will it punish them, you ask? Oh, you know, just life in prison. The bill "gives federal prosecutors greater discretion to bring criminal prosecutions for auto safety violations and increases the possible penalties, including up to life in prison for violations that result in death," McCaskill's office told The Detroit News. If a delayed recall led to serious injuries, meanwhile, execs could still face a 15-year stint behind bars. As for that change in the fine structure for automakers, the removal of the limit is complemented by a hefty increase in the per-vehicle fine, from $5,000 to $25,000. With this change, GM could have been on the hook for $55 billion (with a "b") in fines for its bumbling of the ignition switch recall, rather than just $35 million. The News says, though, that NHTSA has "wide discretion" in handing out the fines. Considering a $55-billion fine is enough to sink any automaker, it is unlikely that such a monumental sum would be handed out. Still, the potential threat of such a death sentence should be enough for any automaker to sit up and take notice. "With millions of Americans behind the wheel every day, and more than 33,000 killed on our roads each year, we've got to do more to keep our cars and the roads we drive them on safe," McCaskill said, according to The News. "Painful recent examples at Toyota and GM have shown us we also must make it easier to hold accountable those who jeopardize consumers' safety. For too long, auto safety resources have remained virtually stagnant while cars and the safety challenges they present have become more complex." What do you think? Do you agree with McCaskill's proposed bill? Should the punishments for automakers and execs be more or less harsh? Have your say in Comments. News Source: The Detroit NewsImage Credit: J.
