Toyota Land
Cruiser restoration shop offers this 1971 FJ40. This was a barn find; I have
the truck running and driving. I went over the major components; this is a mild
project for someone who likes to tinker.
I get frequent requests for cheaper priced Cruisers, this one fits the
bill. I bought this truck from the original owner’s family in the high desert
of eastern Oregon. The original owner passed in 1996, this vehicle sat in a
barn from 1996 until I purchased it in 2013. Very hard to find original type
not hacked up Cruisers these days. This truck needs little things and cosmetic
work, great start for a mild restoration.
I have 94 pictures on a photobucket link, eBay will not let me post that on this add. I will post the link in the open at the bottom when a potential buyer asks me a question, check the bottom of the page, I will also email it as well. HISTORY The original owner bought this truck in 1971 from a dealer in Oregon. He drove the truck on his ranch, also to his other home in San Francisco on occasion. He had the original motor rebuilt in 1994, replaced the clutch at that time. He passed in 1996; the truck was stored in a barn until I bought it. I place wanted ads, and hand out cards in all the little rural towns I travel through, about the only way to get these type of barn find Cruisers. Owner’s son contacted me, I winched it on my trailer and off to my shop. I tested the major components, have it in a running/driving condition ready for the new owner to make it their own. MECHANICAL The original F motor was rebuilt in 1994, the owner passed in 1996, not run since I got it in 2013. The motor has excellent compression, clean as a whistle inside, obvious very low miles on the rebuilt. The clutch was replaced in 94, operates well, 3 on the tree shifts well. We got the brakes working; it does run/drive/stop. The brakes need to be bled and adjusted. The original Toyota PTO winch is complete and works great. We cleaned out the carb, changed a few things to make it run. Good enough to drive on/off a trailer or down the street not dialed in enough to make a road trip. The expensive parts are in order, needs tinkering to be a daily driver. Some of the lights do not work, looks like all the gauges work. BODY All the panels are original to this truck. This truck is pretty rust free speaking FJ40. There are some spots of rot, pics on the link show well. Spots on the passenger floor, spot behind the driver seat. Just small sheet metal patches needed. Surface rust in the bed. The fenders are un-cut, the frame is excellent, and body mounts excellent. The bottoms of all 4 doors are excellent. Original wheels and good tread tires. This truck spent 10 days in my shop to get it to this point. We know it’s a good foundation to turn into a nice restored vehicle. Finding an original FJ40 is difficult, I know I’m redundant, but barn finds in rural areas are about it these days. Everyone knows the prices on these have sky-rocketed in the past few years. Complete factory PTO winch is a huge bonus. I believe this is a great start for a guy/gal that wants to tinker/learn/mild restore one of these legendary vehicles without having to spend the huge dollars all at once to buy one of my perfect restored units. I have a clean clear WA state title in my name in hand for this truck. I require a $500 non-refundable deposit via PayPal immediately after auction conclusion. The rest bank to bank wire, cash in person, cashier’s check within 5 days closed auction. Vehicle or title do not leave my property until paid in full. I will delivery this truck up to 300 miles from my location at $1.75 a loaded (one way) mile. I have a shipping broker in the lower 48 I can put you in contact with. Shipping to Hawaii/Alaska and Canada are fairly easy as well. I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction, I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me when looking in the phone book. Fj 40 fj-40 landcruiser bj40 bj42 |

Toyota will steer clear of driverless cars
Thu, 04 Sep 2014Toyota executives say the company's primary focus is on safety. At least for the time being, that means the company won't pursue development of a driverless car.
Speaking at the company's advanced safety seminar in Ypsilanti, MI, Thursday morning, Seigo Kuzumaki, Toyota's deputy chief safety technology officer, said that Toyota envisions a future driving environment that optimizes the best of both humans and computers, not choosing one over the other.
"Toyota's main objective is safety, so it will not be developing a driverless car." - Seigo Kuzumaki
Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance
Tue, 18 Nov 2014There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.
10 most memorable cars and SUVs of 2019
Tue, Dec 24 2019It's no surprise that a car reviewer will drive a large number of cars over the course of a year. Indeed, when the clock strikes midnight on Dec 31, I will have driven 75 new cars, trucks and SUV this year (and one old Peugeot) over the course of weekly evaluation loans and first drive events. That sure seems like a lot. Some definitely got more attention than others, and some came and went without leaving much of an impression – I completely forgot I drove a Kia Forte. Yet in the spirit of this day, I thought I'd pick the 10 that I would love to see under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning. You know, just in case you were looking to get me something. I'll also throw in a couple disappointments that were memorable for the wrong reasons. They'd get sent back to the store on Boxing Day. Lexus LC 500 Pictured below and resplendent in its Flare Yellow metallic paint, the car that would reach highest on my list is the divine Lexus LC 500. As a devout lover of GT cars, the LC ticks all the boxes. Muscular and characterful engine? V8, check. Beautifully made and memorable interior? It's gorgeous, to hell with Remote Touch. Check. Comfortable and reasonably practical? Superb seats and, uh, yeah. Makes me want to stand there and stare at it? You bet. Though I long figured my heart would say LC but my head "Porsche 911," after this go-around, that's no longer the case. LC, pretty please. 2020-lexus-lc500-f34-2 View 19 Photos Polestar 1 I actually feel lucky that I got to drive the Polestar 1. Only 150 will be produced each year, and it's a far more special thing than it would initially appear. And that's despite initially appearing to be a beautiful, classic two-door GT car with a roof so rakish it's only possible because it's made of carbon fiber. That itÂ’s a massively powerful plug-in hybrid with more all-electric range than any other PHEV is a thick dollop of whipped cream on a slice of Toscakaka. You know, Swedish dessert, Swedish car. Fine, I'll stick to Ikea references. Polestar1_Launch_SanFrancisco-0014 View 44 Photos Volvo V60 Cross Country Speaking of Sweden, did I drive this car off the road there? Sure did! And despite this, the V60 Cross Country scratches that certain wagon itch and looks sensational to boot. I wish it were available with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it's best not to get greedy at Christmas.
