1968 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 - Beautiful Rotisserie Body Off Restoration - Details/Pictures Below

 photo b5_zps6998f0af.jpg

***This early FJ 40 Cruiser is an original Arizona vehicle and has not suffered the rust common with these trucks. I originally planned to just clean up the original paint & make a good driver out of it but I really enjoyed working on the truck & ended up going the extra mile on it. Here's a run-down of the vehicles condition***

Exterior: Stunning. Cruiser is extremely clean & gets tons of compliments when I have it out of the garage. I had it repainted the original Tan color that is so popular with these cruisers.  I would give the paint a 9 out of 10.  I stuck with the original emblems as much as possible - the hood, grill & side emblems are original - the rear emblems are replacements.  The tail lights have been replaced. I was able to keep the original front turn signals & parking light lenses.  The body was removed from the frame and the underside of the cab was painted with a rubberized undercoating.  The chassis was cleaned separately, acid washed then painted with rust-inhibitor paint – NO rust to be found anywhere. There's one small area in the paint that didn't get enough attention @ the Left Rear Corner (pictured). That corner has some light body work that wasn’t prepped perfectly. The rest of the body is straight and clean.

Interior: Beautiful condition and totally redone.  All new Seats front and rear including Foam and Covers – professionally installed. Carpet, Seat Belts & Paint all new as well.  The top dash pad is a re-covered original.  The headliner install is fresh & not perfectly smooth (pictured) but in excellent condition. This was done professionally and I was told the imperfections with cure over time. Dash completely detailed.

Mechanical: V8 engine swap – VERY well done with great power - Chevy 305 V8.  Mostly stock, but has an early set of 283 Power Pack Heads (which are very desirable). Engine runs great & sounds excellent and not obnoxious with the crossover dual exhaust.  No smoke, overheating and an easy start. The bottom of the oil pan does have a couple dents in it but the cruiser does NOT leak any oil anywhere. Tranny & Transfer Case are stock Toyota and work as they should.  The Tranny has been converted from column shift to floor shift. Shifts smooth and the clutch functions nicely. 4 Wheel Drive works as it should. All new fluids including engine oil, coolant flush, tranny /transfer case/differentials replaced.  Tune up done during restoration with new plugs, plug wires, battery cables & battery.  Has an Electric Fan which is operated by an adjustable Thermostat located in the Glove Compartment – runs at 190 all day.  The front heater / defroster work, heater lines the rear heater have been plugged. The truck has ALL new brakes including master cylinder, slave cylinders, brake shoes, freshly turned drums, emergency brakes & cable.  This Cruiser stops smooth and straight without surging.  Wheels are Powdercoated White Rims with brand new Goodyear Wrangler Tires.  The hubcaps are new and unblemished.

Electronics: ALL lights and electrical items work as they should other than the Hazard Lights and Back-up Lights which I haven’t looked into. As for the gauges - Speedo, Fuel & Amp Gauges are working.  The Interior Dash Lights (turn signals, gauge lights, etc.) are all working as well.  Due to engine conversion, the Temp & Oil Gauges are not connected.  Like mentioned above - cooling is controlled by the adjustable thermostat located in the glovebox and electric fan.

Weatherstriping/Rubber:  All NEW! The driver, passenger & rear doors all have new seals but do require closing firmly because of the new rubber.  All windows have new rubber, including the wind wings & wind-up door windows. The glass is a mix of original and new. The Windshield, Rear Window, Driver & Passenger Doors all have new glass.  The rear quarters & the rear radius glass are original – very clean with a couple of VERY minor scratches.

*** OVERALL this is a fantastic example of an early Toyota Landcruiser. It runs and drives great and the hood, tailgate and doors all shut nice and tight. It is extremely clean and gets compliments every time it’s out of the garage. I’m selling from my collection to fund other projects.
I have a clear Arizona title in my name – the Landcruiser is located in Phoenix AZ (Glendale) but can be delivered to Southern California at no additional cost to the winning bidder as I travel back and forth regularly.
Any other location – shipping and coordination are up to the buyer. PLEASE REMEMBER - the winning bidder is committed to purchasing this vehicle. ALL inspections / questions must be asked prior to the end of the auction. Feel free to email me at faceazca@hotmail.com or call 602-570-0972 with any additional questions. If you have less than 5 feedbacks or less than 90% feedback you must contact me before bidding.  Thanks and happy bidding!!!

Mazda3 sales off to rocky start despite massive critical acclaim

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

Like just about every other auto publication we've seen, we loved the way the Mazda3 drove when we reviewed it a few months ago, but those glowing reviews apparently aren't helping its sales. The new compact may be falling victim to a sales war between the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, with the newcomer getting squeezed out by those with more established names and bigger marketing budgets.
According to Automotive News, Mazda3 sales have fallen every month since last August, and its sales are down 27 percent in the first two months of 2014. It certainly isn't helping that the entire compact segment is down five percent this year as well.
The biggest problem for the new model seems to be its price compared to rivals. Mazda is not offering the incentives that are on the hood of competitors. With the previous generation, the company offered more than $2,700 on the hood to move them out, but the current model only carries about $1,233 in markdowns, according to AN.

Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. Toyota pimps out Esquire van for Japanese businessmen [w/video]

Wed, 29 Oct 2014

A few months back we reported on a dealership owner in Japan who was petitioning Toyota to make a luxury van. The problem, he reasoned, was that he couldn't take as many friends, colleagues and clients around with him in his Lexus LS, and his Toyota Alphard van wasn't luxurious enough. Well, it seems like he wasn't alone, and Toyota has listened.
The Japanese auto giant has just revealed the Esquire, a new luxury van designed with just such customers in mind. It's significantly smaller than the Sienna we get in America, smaller than the aforementioned Alphard and about the same size as (this writer's favorite) the JDM Noah van (on which we gather it's based). But what sets the Esquire apart is its upscale appearance.
The boxy van is distinguished by its dominant T-shaped chrome grille with a unique emblem that encompasses a shield, sword, "the collar of a gentleman's suit" and the letters Esq. The flank is characterized by a strong beltline with chrome lower window frame and an expansive greenhouse with tinted rear glass. Inside the flexible cabin you'll find accommodation for seven or eight passengers (depending on specification), synthetic leather upholstery and wood and metallic trim. There are even wheelchair-enabled models on offer as well.
