I am putting a recently finished daily driver 1967 Land Cruiser Factory Soft Top restoration up for auction.  I am a Land Cruiser enthusiast and restorer in the DFW area.  Just returned from Oklahoma on about a 400 mile road trip in the Ouachita mountains without a hiccup. I tried to use all OEM Toyota parts by using vintage part numbers. Some of the things I couldn't find OEM I used CCOT  and Cruiser Corps. Also want to mention Classic Cruisers in Colorado for their advice and help with parts.

Original F 3.9 six cylinder engine runs smooth and strong
3 speed column shifts well without grinding
Original Drum brakes work well and you don't have to stomp on the brake pedal to stop
4x4 works perfect hi and low range
Warn locking hubs on the front end
All electrical has been redone; it has a new fuse block and all lighting is new
Upgraded suspension using new stock bushings, stock springs, HFS shackles and spring pins, Bilstein
 5100s, and HFS steering dampener
5 freshly balanced and aligned bfg 31x10.50s on stock wheels with clips
Brand new Interstate battery and voltage regulator
Interior has been reupholstered in black marine vinyl; no worries about getting it wet
New dash cluster and gauges work great
Tan OCD Cordura Rip and Waterproof OEM Reproduction Soft Top
OEM Reproduction Soft Top Bow Kit
OEM Grommet and Fastener kit for soft top

Now a brief history about the cruiser...it's been a Texas vehicle it's whole life. I found it behind a Toyota mechanics business near DFW. His uncle bought it for a deer lease vehicle from the original owner in Austin in the early 80s. He took it to his deer lease and when I purchased it, it was only showing 29k miles on the cluster and hadnt been registered since '93. The way it runs and drives I wouldn't question low mileage but the speedometer stopped working many years ago so I figure it's close to 60k, as the new cluster shows. Very little rust before the restore, I only had to replaced the rear sil where mud was caked and left. All of the floor pans and rocker panels were in great shape before restore. My strategy was to give it a good sanding, priming, and matching the old paint, then go through it mechanically and source out parts I needed to replace.

The paint is a perfect match to the factory Seminole Red that was one of just a few factory color choices from '65-67.  I do have a lot invested and the truck is super strong and mechanically sound--it's ready to go anywhere and I wouldn't hesitate driving it.  I take pride in giving these classic Toyota 4x4s new life, and this one is my favorite so far.  It really drives great down the highway around 60 mph and it turns heads wherever it goes.  Please feel free to ask me any questions about the rig, and good luck with bidding!

This Irishman really likes the Toyota GT86

Sun, 10 Feb 2013

Okay, okay - by this point in time just liking the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, what have you) doesn't make you special. Even if you're a sort of funny sounding, funny looking Irishman, who probably isn't the most seasoned car reviewer ever, digging the GT86 is not news.
However, if, when you choose to publish your ten-minute-long review, you include exclamatory phrases about your own pubic hair, Ozzy Osborne's drug habit and "gentleman vegetable stuff," well sir, then you'll have our attention.
Don't give up on this video, available down below, after the first couple of minutes, we implore you. The silver-tongued Irishman doesn't really get warmed up until four minutes in, or so. Believe us, it's worth the wait.

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.

Giving Vanilla A Good Name
"Vanilla." Taken in modern context, that's not a compliment, but it should be. Vanilla actually has exotic origins, and as spices go, only saffron is more costly. Despite the realities, calling something "vanilla" is not whistling in admiration. The Toyota Camry has been called "vanilla" countless times since its debut, but both the car and the bean have something up their sleeves.
Scoff all you want, but vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor, and there is no mainstream sedan that outsells the Camry. Apparently, vanilla has an underlying tinge of filthy lucre. We didn't feel rich, exactly, wheeling around in the Camry Hybrid, but we came away impressed, nonetheless.
