Up for auction is a 1966 Toyota Landcruiser I had shipped to New York less than a year ago from Arizona. I have been interested in owning one of these for years and this one was set-up just the way I wanted it. However, due to time constraints I will not be able to go any further with it and will sell it. I will post many pictures and will describe as accurately as I can it's condition. The Toyota has no rust at all and is wearing what is left of it's "sand" colored original paint which has been sprayed over a little bit. The hardtop roof was a light green, now white. The chrome is in excellent condition and just needs a cleaning. The glass is good aside from the driver's door glass. The body is in exceptional condition, with perfect floors, rockers etc, that you would expect from a desert car.

I wanted this Landcruiser because in 1966 it had nice ornamentation and operable vent windows, which later models lack. It has a nice hood ornament and chrome grille, not painted. It also has a split 60/40 seat which folds up front, as well as the double rear jump seats that fold down.

The suspension (shocks and springs) have been upgraded with new Tera-flex springs and shackles which still have the stickers on them. This gives the truck about a 3" lift from stock. From what I understand this is a very expensive upgrade and it was installed and used very little.

It has new white wagon wheels and new 235- 75R15 tires.

According to the previous seller the chevy is a 1970 model pre-smog 350. It has all edelbrock accessories.

3 speed ON THE FLOOR not column shift with 4WD

The clutch hydraulic system had been re-built and the brakes are good.

The toyota runs nicely but it has old gas in one of the tanks which I sucked up the other day while turning the switch under the seat. There are drain plugs in both fuel tanks. Only the rear one needs to be drained. I need to get it running again on the fresh gas, but I can demonstrate that the engine runs nicely with no ticks or smoke even on start up after sitting. I do not know how many miles are on the engine after it's initial re-build and installation.

I have a good 875 cca battery for it.

The toyota does not move at the moment. I have a feeling that the clutch might need to be re-built. When I pushed the clutch arm in it seemed like it wanted to shudder a little. The entire hydraulic clutch system has been replaced.

Brakes, brake lines, etc. are fine.

Complete with some extra parts. Easy restoration project. Please call 347-701-5020 for more details.

Mazda ad showing Facebook updates while driving criticized by Senate committee [w/video]

Sat, 08 Feb 2014

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, held an all-day summit on Thursday to discuss the dangers of using modern technology while driving, during which an ad that Mazda aired during the Super Bowl was used as an example of the worrisome future towards which we're headed. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, the ad, which can be seen below, shows a brief glimpse of a driver using the Mazda Connect infotainment system in a Mazda3 to check/update his Facebook page while driving down the road.
Officials from major communications companies like Samsung, Google and Apple attended the summit, as well as representatives from automakers including General Motors and Toyota. A representative from Mazda was not present despite the company's own currently available technology being used as the poster child for the issues being discussed.
According to Automotive News, Senator Rockefeller warned the automaker and communication execs on hand that he will propose legislation to regulate the use of technology while driving if they don't work together to implement their own standards more quickly. Michael Robinson, GM's vice president of sustainability and global regulatory affairs, argued that his company has had distracted driving guidelines in place for 15 years since the advent of its OnStar system, noting that the technology in question has also helped the automaker save lives through automatic crash detection and calls to 911.

North American production of foreign marques to jump in 2014

Sun, 23 Dec 2012

Wards Auto has released its North American Light Vehicle Production Forecast for 2014, and the report predicts foreign manufacturers will increase production on the continent some 3.9 percent by 2014. If accurate, that should see 123,000 additional cars, trucks and vans produced in North America, swelling the total number of units produced both by domestic and foreign manufacturers to 16.9 million light vehicles from a projected 15.6 million in 2013. Much of the increase can be attributed to the fact that Toyota intends to produce another car at its Blue Springs, MS plant as well as a new Lexus model at its Georgetown, KY facility in a year's time.
Likewise, Volkswagen intends to move production of a currently imported model to its plant in Puebla, Mexico. Daimler, Honda, Nissan and Mazda also plan to build additional models on North American soil for the first time. Around two-thirds of the new North American manufacturing will take place in Mexico, helping the country soak up a full 20 percent of the content's automotive production for the first time. You can head over to the Wards Auto site for the full report.

Vote to unionize Toyota Canada plant faces delay

Fri, 04 Apr 2014

Volkswagen isn't the only automaker with high-profile unionization efforts afoot at one of its North American factories. Unifor, Canada's largest private-sector union, is attempting to organize Toyota's factories in Ontario, reports Reuters. A vote was originally set for next week, but Unifor has apparently found more workers eligible to vote, delaying the proceedings. It hasn't rescheduled the ballot yet, but claims there are 7,500 employees with the right to vote, with over 3,000 having already signed union cards.
Toyota is pushing against organizing, saying that workers already have a payment and benefits near the top of the industry, and noting that it has never laid off a permanent employee in Canada. Unifor has reportedly countered by saying that about a quarter of the workforce is operating under a temporary contract, which receives lower benefits.
The automaker has three factories in Ontario - two in Cambridge and one in Woodstock. To form a union, a majority of eligible employees must vote to join Unifor. If successful, they would be the first wholly owned Toyota plants in North America to be organized. Previous attempts to unionize the Japanese automaker's Canadian factories in 2001 and 2008 failed due to lack of support.
