1962 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser

  • RUST FREE
  • ORIGINAL BODY IN OUTSTANDING CONDITION
  • MECHANICALLY SOUND AND SOLID
  • FRONT DISC BRAKES
  • DAILY DRIVER CONDITION
  • RIGHT HAND DRIVE, NEW ZEALAND IMPORT IN 2004

Offered for sale is a 1962 Toyota FJ45. This truck was purchased via Ebay and imported from New Zealand in 2004 (shipping cost was approximately $2,000) by the previous owner. It is the cleanest, most solid Land Cruiser I have ever run across. The truck is practically, if not entirely, rust free with solid original floorpans and exterior.  All major mechanical work done to the truck was done in New Zealand to high standards, including certification thereof (apparently a requirement in New Zealand). Work done there included a 350 Chevy V-8 conversion along with a Chevy TH400 rebuilt (March 2004) automatic transmission with a B&M floor shift, upgrade to FJ60 axles with front disc brakes, steering column and steering box. (Approximately $8,000 in receipts were retained). The Vehicle bears a 2004 New Zealand 'Warrant of Fitness' window decal along with an affixed metal plate. Also, a certificate of registration dating back to 1965 goes with the vehicle's documentation. The vehicle was also repainted in New Zealand and has minor surface and paint imperfections, but does not require repainting, at least in my opinion.

The FJ45 both runs and drives great. Brakes are great and also power. Steering is tight and solid, but is not power. All lights and gauges work, with oil pressure and water temp in dash gages added. Speedo works and appears to have been converted from kms. Dual electric windshield wipers work, as does turn signals. Horn is currently activated by toggle switch, but should be able to be wired into the steering column with the addition of a horn relay. Floor shifted four wheel drive works and is paired with original locking front hubs. Toyota shoulder strap style seat belts installed.  All glass is good, including dual rear sliding glass windows. Rear air shocks. New battery, plugs, points, condenser, coil, and starter. Engine has an electric fan wired to ignition switch, Holley 4bbl., and Edelbrock intake. No leaks from engine, trans, or differentials. Tires are 31x10.5x15 in very good condition and tread. Side and windshield frame vents. No heater installed. Documented mileage indicates a total of 146,275 kms- most likely.

I bought this FJ45 on impulse in February while looking for an FJ40 to restore. I have recently acquired an FJ40, so the FJ45 is for sale. My 18 yr. old son and I have enjoyed driving it over the summer, but we are looking forward to finishing the FJ40. The FJ45 is solid, reliable, and a good driver or I would not have let my son in it. the longest trip we've taken it has been about 80 miles, but I wouldn't hesitate to drive it farther. The previous owner drove it from the Port of Savannah, GA to Atlanta in 2004.

The spare pictured in the rear bed is not included in the sale. It is an original 16" Toyota steel wheel, and if the buyer desires, the wheels and tires shown can be swapped for the full set of 7.00x16 steel wheels and tires, including the spare, which are original to this vehicle.

Everybody's doing flying cars, so why aren't we soaring over traffic already?

Mon, Oct 1 2018

"Where's my flying car?" has been the meme for impending technology that never materializes since before there were memes. And the trough of disillusionment for vehicles that can take to sky continues to nosedive, despite a nonstop fascination with flying cars and a recent rash of announcements about the technology, particularly from traditional automakers. Earlier this month, Toyota applied for an eye-popping patent for a flying car that has wheels with spring-loaded pop-out helicopter rotors. The patent filing says the wheels/rotors would be electrically powered, while in on-land mode the vehicle would have differential steering like tracked vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers. At an airshow in July, Aston Martin unveiled its Volante Vision Concept, an autonomous hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle it developed with Rolls-Royce. Aston says the Volante can fly at top speeds of around 200 mph and bills it as a luxury car for the skies. Audi used the Geneva Motor Show in March to unveil a flying car concept called the Pop.Up Next it developed with Airbus and Italdesign. If the Pop.Up Next, an electric and autonomous quadcopter/city car combo, gets stuck in traffic, an app can be used to summon an Airbus-developed drone to pick up the passenger compartment pod, leaving the chassis behind. Audi said that the Pop.Up Next is a "flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities." But Audi also acknowledged that at this point it has no plans to develop it. The cash-stoked, skies-the-limit Silicon Valley tech crowd is also bullish on flying cars. The startup Kitty Hawk that's backed by Google co-founder Larry Page announced in June that it's taking pre-orders for its single-seat electric Flyer that's powered by 10 propellers and is capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. The current version can only fly up to 20 mph and 10 feet in the air and has a flight time of just 12 to 20 minutes on a full charge. The Flyer is considered a recreational vehicle, so doesn't require a pilot's license. Uber says it plans to launch its more ambitious Elevate program and UberAIR service in 2023. "Uber customers will be able to push a button and get a flight on-demand with uberAIR in Dallas, Los Angeles and a third international market," Uber Elevate promises on its website.

Toyota settles complaints with states Attorneys General for $29 million

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Toyota announced today that it has reached a settlement with the Attorneys General of 29 states and one US territory that will resolve their complaints relating to recalls performed by the automaker from 2005-2010, including those related to sticky accelerators and malfunctioning floor mats that may have contributed to cases of unintended acceleration.
The settlement includes a payout of $29 million to be divided among the states and US territory, as well as a commitment from Toyota "to take steps to make vehicle information more easily accessible to consumers to help them operate their vehicles safely and make more informed choices." The settlement also has Toyota continuing its rapid-response service teams and quality field offices that were put in place shortly after the largest of the recalls from 2010, as well as a "range of customer care amenities for owners of vehicles subject to certain recalls," though the press release below isn't specific about what those amenities might be.
This settlement marks the second major step in the last few months that Toyota has taken to settle legal disputes surrounding the unintended acceleration recalls, the first being a $1.4 billion settlement to address economic loss suffered by owners of current and past Toyota vehicles that may have lost value on account of these recalls.

Toyota sizzle reel gives better look at i-Road Geneva concept

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Toyota is taking the tiny tandem Tango to Tron town. In a teaser video for the new i-Road, debuting at the Geneva Motor Show next week, we catch a light-bike-like glimpse of Toyota's quirky tandem-seat concept. We still don't know much about the vehicle itself, but the video does flash the words "fun, compact, emissions-free," which suggests this is an electric ride. Then comes the apparent tagline: "i Roll, i Rock i Road." An indication that the tilting image we see in the video isn't just a special effect, perhaps? We'll have to wait until we get to Switzerland next week to find out. Until then, you can watch the video below.
In more earthly reveals, Toyota will also show off its hotly anticipate FT-86 Open sports car concept and Auris Touring Sports wagon on its Geneva show stand.
