1978 Toyota Landcruiser Fj40. Newly Overhauled Engine. Very Clean! on 2040-cars
Mountain View, Arkansas, United States
This FJ40 has had a very thorough refurbishing starting by removing the tub for cleaning and painting frame, overhauling engine and drive train, painting body and installing new interior. I will try my best to describe the FJ as honestly as possible and list those things that have been done and those needing to be done. I bought this project disassembled and have been there throughout it's reassembly process. Many original OEM parts were used as well as new OEM and aftermarket parts. The engine was overhauled by a reputable shop and was balanced and blue printed during rebuild. It starts easily, runs smoothly and is typical of a well done rebuilt engine. At the same time the transmission, transfer case and both differentials were gone though and brought back to spec. The body is straight and only has very minor scuffs or dents. As you can tell from the pics there are no signs of damage to the undercarriage or body. The front bumper has a small bend on the passenger side. Hard to notice unless you are looking down the length of the bumper. The FJ was moved three times while disassembled prior to my ownership so there are some blemishes in the exterior paint from handling and strorage. It has a good "20 foot" daily driver paint job. There is light to moderate "orange peel" effect in the paint. The paint covers well and has good protection quality. I do not use the term "frame off restoration" because this was not a nut and bolt redo. However great effort was taken to insure it was well done for a daily driver vehicle. I will list what has been done mechanical and appearance wise. Open to all questions about the FJ except what my reserve price will be. Mechanical: Engine overhaul with balance and blueprint performed.

Toyota U2 urban utility concept inspired by Maker Faire [w/video]
Tue, 09 Sep 2014There's a quiet revolution happening in US cities. People want to mix an urban lifestyle with a connection to nature and appreciation for craftsmanship. The result of all of this is folks pursuing things as varied as urban farming, home brewing and the whole maker movement. Toyota thinks it has the perfect concept for these intrepid customers with its new Urban Utility concept that it is debuting during a panel discussion hosted by Make: magazine in San Francisco and debuting publicly on September 20 at the World Maker Faire in New York City.
The Urban Utility concept can best be described as a modern take on the old panel van. Designers from Toyota's Calty Design Research center in California interviewed Maker Faire participants to find out what its users want from a novel vehicle like this. "Toyota saw an opportunity for a new approach to an urban vehicle based on increasing re-urbanization of our cities and urban drivers' desire for flexibility, fun and maneuverability," said Kevin Hunter president of Calty.
On the outside, the Urban Utility doesn't really scream for attention. It's meant to meet users "desire for greater utility but a smaller vehicle footprint," according to the release, but the shape is still very much a van. The designers do try to lend it some panache with the LED headlights up front and checker board side panels. It's really more about utility than looks, though, because the roof can roll back for taller loads, the rear glass retracts into the tailgate, and the whole rear can fold down as a ramp to load stuff more easily into the cabin. Toyota isn't talking about a powertrain yet but claims that the underbody is also especially durable for a long life in the big city.
2014 Toyota Camry to get 'significant' attention?
Sun, 24 Nov 2013With competition from Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Nissan mounting, Toyota is getting set to unveil a refreshed version of its Camry sedan a mere two years after it was fully redesigned.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Toyota's move to freshen the still young Camry comes as it seeks to retain its US sales crown in the midsize segment. That desperation has lead to increased incentives and fleet sales in a bid to keep its title, all while trying to keep pace with a slew of very competent competitors.
"It's safe to say we'll be doing something with it," Bill Fay, group vice president of the Toyota brand in the US, told Bloomberg during last week's LA Auto Show. "We'll be paying significant attention to Camry next year."
Toyota recalling FJ Cruiser due to excessively bright headlights
Sun, 05 May 2013Now, hold on. This recall isn't quite as serious as it sounds. Yes, Toyota is recalling 11,489 FJ Cruiser models from the 2007 to 2013 model years, and yes, it's because the vehicles, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states, "fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, 'Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.'" But read the fine print and you'll see the catch: This recall is only for vehicles fitted with the automaker's auxiliary lighting kit that can be mounted to the front bumper.
Basically, the auxiliary lamp assemblies use 55-watt bulbs, and when these are turned on in conjunction with the upper beam headlamps, it's a pretty blinding sight. NHTSA states that excessively bright lights can blind other drivers, increasing the risk for a crash.
To remedy the situation, Toyota will replace the 55-watt bulbs with cooler 35-watt units. The recall is expected to begin later this month. Scroll down for the full details in the NHTSA report.
