I have too many cars and am selling my 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 which has been completely restored to original condition. This FJ40 has been painted inside, outside, underneath and inside the engine bay. It has 6 coats of primer, 2 coats of veva-seal, and 2 gallons of single-stage acrylic enamel paint. This is what the car would have originally come with. The interior is white with gray front seats and a gray small jump seat in the back. Recently newly upholstered. It has a new dash pad, new factory floor mats, a factory roll bar, new door gaskets, and a new headliner. This 1969 FJ40 is a original 4x4 with 23,701 miles, it has a factory PTO winch on the front, 5 new BF Goodrich all terrain tires. The engine is original with the straight 6 cylinder gas engine with the 3 speed transmission with high - low range the engine is all original as it still has the old vacuum control switch to switch between high and low range, every light and gauge works, the wipers work, the heater works. This FJ also benefits from new brakes, new exhaust and new hubcaps. In addition to the new brakes the clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, and flywheel were replaced along with all the seals, boots, and transfer case. The transmission was also serviced at this time as well. It also has a new battery and it just passed its safety inspection this spring. In addition, Grand Prix Auto in Southampton, NY did a complete 150 point inspection and test drive of the car and assured me that it is in great running condition. They also checked that all numbers were matching and that all the parts were original. The FJ runs and drives great. I am the second owner. The Fj lived in a barn in Missouri and I have kept it garaged in NY for 4 years. If you want an original Land Cruiser this is it. The only issues with the car are some minor areas of surface rust on the steps (which can be seen in the photos) and there is an area below the gas cap that needs some touch up paint. Otherwise the car is in really great condition. If you have any questions feel free to call me: Lee (631) 926-4740 I am very proud of this car. I love it very much and people are always very interested in it when they see it. It is a great looking car that I will be sad to let go but happy for someone else to enjoy. |

Asian automakers still reluctant to use more aluminum
Tue, Jun 24 2014There's a logical progression of technology in the auto industry. We've seen it with things like carbon-ceramic brakes, which use to be the sole domain of six-figure sports cars, where they often cost as much as an entry level Toyota Corolla. Now, you can get them on a BMW M3 (they're still pricey, at $8,150). Who knows, maybe in the next four a five years, they'll be available on something like a muscle car or hot hatchback. Aluminum has had a similar progression, although it's further along, moving from the realm of Audi and Jaguar luxury sedans to Ford's most important product, the F-150. With the stuff set to arrive in such a big way on the market, we should logically expect an all-aluminum Toyota Camry or Honda Accord soon, right? Um, wrong. Reuters has a great report on what's keeping Asian manufacturers away from aluminum, and it demonstrates yet another stark philosophical difference between automakers in the east and those in the west. Of course, there's a pricing argument at play. But it's more than just the cost of aluminum sheet (shown above) versus steel. Manufacturing an aluminum car requires extensive retooling of existing factories, not to mention new relationships with suppliers and other logistical and financial nightmares. Factor that in with what Reuters calls Asian automaker's preference towards "evolutionary upgrades," and the case for an all-aluminum Accord is a difficult one. Instead, manufacturers in the east are focusing on developing even stronger steel as a means of trimming fat, although analysts question how long that practice can continue. Jeff Wang, the automotive sales director for aluminum supplier Novelis, predicts that we'll see a bump in aluminum usage from Japanese and Korean brands in the next two to three years, and that it will be driven by an influx of aluminum-based vehicles from western automakers into China. Only time will tell if he's proven right. News Source: ReutersImage Credit: Sean Gallup / Getty Images Plants/Manufacturing Honda Hyundai Mazda Nissan Toyota Technology aluminum
Lexus Eco Challenge rewards schools for clean water, briquette press projects
Fri, Feb 28 2014Teams from one New Jersey high school and one Michigan middle school reversed the old adage by thinking locally and acting globally. And that strategy won them the grand prizes in the most recent edition of the Lexus Eco Challenge. The future is indeed bright. The Toyota luxury-vehicle division gave out a half-million dollars in this year's contest. One $30,000 grand prize was awarded to the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, NJ, which produced and distributed low-cost briquette presses to rural villages beset by deforestation. The other grand prize went to the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center West Middle School in Michigan. That middle-school group raised money to send water filters to Haiti, Kenya and the Philippines. Lexus also awarded eight $15,000 first-place awards, with the winners including high schools from California, Florida, Missouri and Pennsylvania as well as middle schools from Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina and Texas. A special shout out goes to Daniel Boone Area High School in Birdsboro, PA, where students created an educational and public-relations campaign to publicize algae-based biofuels. In all, Lexus has doled out more than $4 million in Eco Challenge awards in seven years. Check out Lexus's press release below. Students Get Dollars and Sense in Lexus Eco Challenge - $500,000 Awarded to Teams Who Learn About Environment and Community Empowerment Two Grand Prize Teams Earn $30,000 Eight $15,000 First Place Awards Given to Innovative High School and Middle School Teams Students Bring Ideas to a Larger Audience and Make a Positive Impact on the World TORRANCE, Calif., (Feb. 24, 2014) – It's a win, win situation! Communities become a better place, and students, teachers and schools have the chance to share $500,000 in scholarships and grants through the Lexus Eco Challenge. This year, the $30,000 Grand Prize winners are the Pinelands Eco Scienteers from Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, and the E.T. Electrical Team from Byron Center, Michigan. The Lexus Eco Challenge is an educational program and contest that inspires and empowers young people to learn about the environment and take action to improve it. High school and middle school teams nationwide define an environmental issue that is important to them, develop an action plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report on the results.
Watch this dude paint his Toyota pickup like Eddie Van Halen's guitar
Fri, Nov 28 2014Eddie van Halen is one of the greatest rock musicians around, and his Eruption guitar solo alone puts him in the pantheon with the best of the best. Artist Ryan Humphrey was looking for a design to repaint his ratty Toyota pickup, and as a Van Halen super fan, he set on the classic scheme of Eddie's guitar for the look. The paint job is made up of a crisscrossing geometric pattern of black and white stripes with a red body. The eye-catching, rock-inspired design should give Humphrey no problems finding his pickup in a parking lot. In a video hosted by Plutonium Paint, he shows you how to get the look using the company's product. Even if you're not interested in watching a guy paint his old truck, the video is still enjoyable just for the chance to listen to some Van Halen tunes.
