Her name is Lucy and she is one tough babe.  She enjoys long drives along the beach, breathing in the mountain air, road trips to anywhere, camping and taking good care of her driver.

Runs great, drives great.  Don't let the mileage fool you, you will watch the odometer go all the way back around to 0 on this car and she'll keep going.  These engines last forever!  This is a very reliable car and I have most of the maintenance records.  The only other owner was my mother before she gave the car to me.

Before clicking "buy now" please email me for my phone # to ask questions or set up a time to view – TakeRedHome@aol.com.

Feel free to bring your mechanic and inspect the car on-site or we can take it to a mechanic of your choice.  Again, the car is located in Westminster, CA.

Here are the specifics on the car:

4 cylinder

4 speed Automatic transmission

Clean title

247k miles

Pros:

 - Great gas mileage! - 26 City/33 HWY

 - Engine and transmission in great shape

 - Ice cold A/C!

 - Brand new CD/USB/AUX AM FM radio - hook your iPod up to it!

 - Polk Audio UV resistant speakers

 - K&N air filter (improved performance, never needs replacing)

 - Well maintained

 - The interior is very clean and in great shape.  No tears in the seats

 - Just passed smog in July

 - Just did oil change

Cons:

The car is in great working condition with normal wear and tear.  Only minor inexpensive maintenance should be performed soon:

- replace left outer CV boot

- 2 new tires

- alignment

Other negatives to note about the car:

- There is a slight oil leak which will take some labor to repair as it's between the engine and tranny.  The leak is not bad at all, just a drop or 2 per day.  As long as you continue to change the oil regularly, every 3K miles or so, you will not get low on oil.  But if you don't want oil on your driveway, you'll want it fixed.

- Rear driver side fender bent slightly.  This happened shortly after buying the car in ’93 and it's not causing any problems, it's merely aesthetics.  No frame damage.

- Rear bumper paint is peeling.

- Brakes squeak briefly sometimes when cold.

 - Every once in a while the power steering pump hums slightly so it will eventually need to be replaced down the road but most likely not for a while.  Mechanic couldn't couldn't say when, could be a year or 2 or longer.   The power steering works great now and the pump does not need replacing at this time.

- The dome light works, it just does not come on when driver’s side door is open, but it comes on when the other doors are open.  If you need the light on with driver’s door open, simply switch it to “on”.

There you have it.  Honestly, this is a great car that won’t let you down.  If you take good care of her like I did, she will take good care of you.

How Toyota's 100-year textile history influenced FCV hydrogen fuel cell car

Thu, Sep 11 2014

Turns out, Toyota had a surprising ace in the hole when it came to building the new fuel tanks for the FCV hydrogen fuel cell car, which is coming next year. Well before Toyota became the Toyota Motor Company, it was the Toyota Industries Corporation and it made textile looms. This is important because the main structure of the hydrogen tank is wound carbon fiber. When Toyota set out to increase the strength of the tanks to hold hydrogen stored at 10,000 psi (up from 5,000 in the previous tanks), it was able to draw on its 100-year-old history as it designed its car of the future. "A lot of that textile experience came back when we did the tank wrapping." – Justin Ward "We have a lot of experience with textiles," Justin Ward told AutoblogGreen at the 21st World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Detroit this week, "and a lot of that textile experience came back when we did the tank wrapping." On top of being able to hold the higher-pressure hydrogen, Toyota's first attempt to build its own hydrogen tank was six times faster than the industry standard, so it saved time and money as well as working better. The company will also be able to inspect its own tanks. Ward is the general manager of powertrain system control at the Toyota Technical Center and hydrogen vehicles are something he knows a lot about. The reason for the stronger, 10,000-psi tanks is because the 5,000-psi tanks only offered around 180-200 miles of range, even with four tanks in the early $129,000 FCHV Highlander hydrogen prototypes. The FCV only has two, but they will able to deliver the 300-mile range that customers told Toyota they wanted. Dropping the number of tanks not only obviously reduced the cost for the tanks themselves but also the number of valves and hoses and other components you need. Despite the benefits of higher compression, going much higher doesn't make sense. 10,000 psi is the "natural progression," Ward said, because "you start to bump up against compression inefficiencies." Think of an air compressor. When hydrogen is produced at a wastewater treatment plant or a reforming site, Ward said, is it at around ambient pressure (14 psi). That has to be raised, using compressors, all the way to 10,000 psi. "That takes energy," Ward said, "and every doubling of pressure adds another doubling of energy needed, so it starts to add up pretty fast if you go too high." Component specifications are also fine at 10,00 psi, but more difficult at higher levels.

Chevy Bolt wins 2017 Green Car of the Year

Thu, Nov 17 2016

We knew that a plug-in vehicle was going to win the 2017 Green Car of the Year award this year, given that all five finalists have a way to charge up. And when Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, announced the winner – the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV – he said that the car itself represents one of those times in the auto industry when everything is about to change. Similar to the invention of the starter motor, things are about to get different. For now, though, the fact that the Bolt EV won an award sounds like the same old thing all over again. Just this week, it was named Motor Trends Car of the Year and to the Car And Driver Top 10 list. The other four finalists for Green Car of the Year included the Toyota Prius Prime, the Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia Optima (including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models) and the BMW 330e iPerformance. Last year, the winner was the 2016 Chevy Volt. Did Green Car Journal make the right selection this year? See the award ceremony below.

130,000 Toyota Tundra pickups recalled over airbag issue

Fri, 12 Sep 2014

Toyota is announcing a recall for about 130,000 examples of the 2014 Tundra Tundra pickup in Crew-Max Cab and Double Cab configurations.
According to the company, the "garnish on the center pillars" inside the trucks might not have been installed correctly. If the vehicle were in an accident, the side curtain airbags could deploy in the wrong shape. Toyota says that it's not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this potential problem.
To fix the issue, the pickups will have their interior center pillars inspected, and if faulty, the pieces will be replaced. Obviously, this will be done at no cost to owners. Scroll down to read the full announcement.
