1991 Toyota Corolla Dlx All Trac Wagon Automatic W/overdrive Clean! on 2040-cars

US $4,999.00
Year:1991 Mileage:188996
Location:

You are purchasing a RARE 1991 Toyota Corolla DX All-Trac wagon. I would drive this car anywhere without hesitation. Click on the AutoCheck link for full history. I am the 3rd owner in 23 years: NO wrecks, clean title, mileage checks out.

I looked for an All-Trac wagon w/auto trans/overdrive (rare) for several years before I found this car from Jay Johnson Toyota, Bristol TN in 2005 with 107,000 miles. It now has 188,996 miles. The majority of the miles I put on the car are highway miles on I-77 and I-40. I am a musician so I bought the car to carry my guitars and amps to gigs, practices, auditions, studio work etc. I live about 1.5 hrs away from most of the places I play so this car has to get me there and home safely. It has never let me down. It is reliable, roomy, runs strong, gets about 30mpg on interstates (cruises at 70-75 mph no problem with power to spare), 25 mpg around town. One reason that this car has been so reliable is all the money I have spent on professional repairs for any problem that occurs asap.

In addition to a regular oil change every 3,000 miles and tire balancing/rotation about every 6,000 miles, here is a list of repairs, new parts, work etc. that has been done to the car since I have owned it.

I have receipts for most if not all of this work and will be included for new owner.

Professional upgrade polyurethane paint job by Maaco in 07, repainted (original Toyota factory paint code 1991) red with some rust repair and pin striping.

New gas tank

Drivers side mirror replaced

Drivers door handle replaced

Battery about 3-4 years ago, starts quick, It was checked before winter

valve seals replaced about 30K ago

head machined about 30K ago

New head gasket when head was machined

New timing belt about 30k ago

Oil Pan Gasket about 20K ago

Alignment about 20k

Plug Wires about 60k ago

New muffler, tailpipe about 50K ago

New brakes front and rear about 50k ago

New water pump about 40k ago

Replaced various hoses when a leak was detected

Oil send unit about 20k ago

Michelin Wiper Blades  2 years ago

Plugs about 10k ago

Main belt about 20k ago

Cooling System Pressure Flushed about 20K ago

Auto Trans Pressure flushed/filter about 10K ago

New struts on front shocks on back about 50k ago

New Pioneer CD/am/fm radio mp3 player w/ 4 new speakers 2 years old

Latest set of tires are good for at least another 15-20K

I totaled up the receipts that I could find and got about $5,946.11 which does not include all oil changes and tires over the last 9 years. The receipts all have some form of repair/parts replacement/labor /paint costs etc. for the car. I will include the receipts, window sticker/sales documentation from Jay Johnson Toyota in 2005 with the car along with the original owners manual. I can't find my receipt for the Pioneer CD/AM/FM/mp3 player and 4 speakers but that was close to $300 with installation.

The car starts, runs, drives great but some work will be needed in the future for the car to drive it’s best, which is how it has been maintained while I have owned it. The new owner should address or be aware of these items:

  • Exhaust has developed a small blow. Not bad but noticeable at or below 30 mph. Once you get above that it is not as noticeable but I would have it repaired if I were going to keep the car.
  • Tires need balancing, there is a vibration about 30 mph but it immediately smooths out from 35 on up. A good balance should correct this and it is about due for an alignment check.
  • The battery is 3-4 years old. Works well now but will need replacing soon to be safe
  • AC worked great but It was diagnosed with a freon leak. About 2 years ago the mechanic I use put some dye in the system to see where it leaks. The air blew cold until about the end of last summer and so I never got the guy to find the leak and repair it. Get that done and the air is fine. Or just fill it with freon and it is good for about 1.5 years.
  • Blower for heat and air only works as it should on position 2 and 4  but it works well enough so that I never felt the need to get it fixed.
  • Drivers seat is worn around the vinyl sides (see pic of tape on drivers side). It has just perished over time. The seating surface of the seat is fine but the sides need to be repaired.
  • Interior light bulb needs replacing.
  • Rust You can see the pics of rust and that is a common problem with these cars. Fix the places or just drive it another 100K
  • Various marks and scuffs on the interior but nothing horrible. Seats are not torn or stained. When I bought the car there was a burn on the passenger side door card. I do not smoke so this car has not been smoked in the 9 years I have owned it. Carpets good.
  • Tiny crack on the dash on passenger side 1/4 in. (On the front interior pic you can select/magnify the pic to see the small crack on dash and the burn on the door)
  • Paint is still shiny as I have kept it waxed since the repaint in 07 but it is not perfect with some fading on the hood and an assortment of dings, scuffs, chips and a dent in the rear passenger side quarter panel that could be pulled out I have been told by a body man. The car looks great from about 20 feet but on close inspection the imperfections are evident.
  • Brakes are still good but could use a brake inspection within the next 6 months just to be on the safe side.
  • This car is not loaded with convenience options. No power windows, locks, cruise, etc. Cigarette lighter works so you can charge your phone or use gps.

This is a good car. I have always maintained it well and it has been garaged since I have owned it. Because the car was garaged I made sure any water/oil/gas leaks were repaired. I do not like to see a leak on my garage floor so the car as of today does not leak fluids. The heater is the best I have ever had in a car. You will stay warm in this car. Tracks well down the road. Excellent power for a 4 cylinder once you get up to speed. The work on the head noticeably increased the power.

I have the seats folded down most of the time to haul guitars/amps etc. but there is plenty of room for 4 adults in this car with cargo space behind the hatch.

Think a family of four with a load of groceries in the back.

This car has saved me several times in bad weather. The Toyota All-Trac all wheel drive will get you home. This winter with 20 inches of heavy, wet snow that my neighbors had difficulty getting out with their SUV’s this Corolla wagon barely slipped, going anywhere I needed to go. In bad rain storms this car holds the pavement very well going up and down hills etc.

I already regret selling this wagon but I have a new commuter music vehicle so my loyal friend must find a new home.

A bonus for you is a NOS set of factory Toyota Corolla wheel covers from this model. I had just put the present ones on (nothing wrong with them) when I saw these NOS caps on ebay. They were not cheap but I will include the caps with the sale of the car.

Toyota nears $40B cash reserve as calls grow for new investment, payouts

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

With the April 15 tax deadline just a few months away, our US readers will be faced with a decision should they get a refund: save or spend? It seems this issue is one many of us face whenever there's a windfall, trying to decide whether we should set the money aside in an account of some sort or use it as a down payment on a new car or a trip to the Apple store. Unsurprisingly, major corporations face a similar, albeit more complex, issue.
Take Toyota, for example. With President Akio Toyoda at the helm, the Japanese manufacturer has gracefully weathered recalls and natural disasters, all while turning beaucoup profits. Last quarter, profits quintupled to 434.4-billion yen ($4.3-billion USD), according to Bloomberg. Toyota also upped its forecast for the end of fiscal year 2013 (which ends on March 31 for Japan), to a record 1.9-trillion yen (about $18.8 billion). Now, the Japanese brand is reportedly sitting on a cash pile of nearly $40 billion, leaving Toyoda-san in an envious predicament - what should the company do with all that money?
Some think Toyota should be doing something, anything with that big stack of cash.

eBay Find of the Day: Back To The Future Marty McFly 1985 Toyota SR5 pickup tribute

Mon, 05 Aug 2013

With DeLorean time machine replicas thick on the ground, it was only a matter of time before someone started recreating the other vehicles in the McFly garage. At the end of the first Back to the Future movie, Marty returns to 1985 to find his sweet-looking Toyota SR5 truck all waxed and ready for his date. That truck always did look great in the movie, and now's your chance to own this close facsimile.
This Back to the Future replica Toyota is on eBay with a price of $14,500, which the seller claims is half of what's been invested. Perhaps that's true, but it's still a nearly 30-year-old truck that's covered 280,000 miles. The seller does say the 22RE engine has been recently rebuilt, along with the rest of the drivetrain, and there's new paint, too. The attention to detail is admirable, and if you've always admired Marty's '80s-chic 4x4, now's your chance to own it.

Automakers paying Chinese dealers for lower-than-expected sales

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The Chinese dealers vs. foreign manufacturers story won't quit. It began with a story on the struggles faced by FAW-Toyota joint venture dealers, with supposedly 95 percent of the showrooms losing money, and 10 percent of them doing so poorly that they'd have to exit the business. The problem is mandated sales targets, most set when the country's economy was racing. Now that things have slowed, China's dealers are swimming in unsold cars and the costs to keep them. In the case of FAW-Toyota, dealers asked Toyota to hand over 2.2 billion yuan ($355 million) to help address the situation. That was followed by a report noting the issues that Honda, BMW, and Nissan dealers are having with the same issue, revealing that the Chinese Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) had taken the highly unusual step of writing to the Chinese government to complain. Now Reuters reports that CADA is not only pressing its case even harder, it's being open about it: it announced that BMW agreed to pay dealers 5.1 billion yuan ($820 million) to alleviate poor profits last year. Unnamed sources said Audi has thrown 2 billion yuan into the kitty for subsidies, and Daimler has contributed "about 1 billion yuan" to its dealers. The battle isn't just about 2014, but how business will be run in 2015 as well: Chinese Porsche dealers have requested the automaker lower its 2015 target of 64,000 cars, which would be a 40-percent increase on its 2014 sales of 46,931 vehicles. One analyst called it "shocking" that the CADA has taken its fight public, while CADA comments continue to imply that dealers have been railroaded to the cliff's edge without recourse. "Due to the difference in status," it's deputy secretary said, "individual dealers are not willing to, or don't dare to, talk frankly with the carmakers...." Both parties need one another, so they'll figure out a way to make it work – but that could mean acknowledging the Chinese market is behaving more like a mature one, not an emerging one.
