I have a BEAUTIFUL 1990 TOYOTA COROLLA SR5 COUPE for sale! I'm selling it for my folks, who purchased it new in 1990, once they were "empty nesters". They took good care of it and put many happy miles on it. Now that they're in their 80's, the car is much too small and much too low for them to be comfortable in it, so they've given it to me to sell for them. I looked the car up on the NADA website and found it valued in excellent condition (which it is) at $4,600. I'd like to do a quick and happy sale, so I'm offering it up here for auction. I believe in TOTAL DISCLOSURE, and Karma, so here's the GOOD NEWS and the "BAD" NEWS: THE GOOD NEWS: The exterior is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. (This car is BEAUTIFUL! We've refreshed the paint. The body is pretty straight for a 24 year-old car. There is a ding near the gas filler door and another on the passenger side door. There are a few tiny nicks in the windshield on the driver's side and we've put some snazzy wheel covers on it because the old 1980's ones fell apart.) The interior is in LIKE-NEW CONDITION. (Check out the photos! It's kind of like a time machine. The upholstery is original as are the carpets, dash, steering wheel...everything! Mom took good care of the car. She was pretty much the sole driver of the car, and rarely took passengers with her. ) It RUNS WELL. (It might need a tune-up soon, but it's running great for a car that's 24 years old.) It STOPS WELL. (I just had the brakes replaced.) It HANDLES WELL. (I had the suspension tightened up. For a 24 year-old car it handles quite well.) It gets GREAT GAS MILEAGE. (Moms and Pops reported somewhere around 30mpg.) It's been WELL CARED FOR. (I have all the service receipts for the car since it was purchased new.) It's the PERFECT CITY CAR. (It's cute, it's small, it gets good gas mileage, it's inexpensive to insure and it's not new, so you can park it on the street and might not mind it getting scratched or dinged too much.) It's a PERFECT 1ST CAR. (Same reasons it's a perfect City Car. Most folks are hard on their 1st cars. It's cute, it's small, it gets good gas mileage, it's inexpensive to insure and it's not new, so you might not mind it getting scratched or dinged too much..) THE "BAD" NEWS: You'll eventually have to replace the TIMING BELT. (The belt was last replaced in 1995, and the car continues to run great. I got a quote of $600 to replace it.) You'll probably want to replace the AUDIO SYSTEM. (My Dad was adamant about me leaving the existing stereo in the car. He and my Mom fought Toyota to pay for it when they bought the car new because the stock stereo system was lousy. They won, got the stereo and INSIST that I keep it in the car because, "It's a GOOD stereo!" You might want to replace it with something that has an AUX input, USB connectivity and BLUETOOTH. You can find something like that pre-owned on Craigslist for somewhere between $100 - $200.) You'll probably want to get it TINTED. (I got a quote for $150 for all the rear windows, $200 for all but the windshield.) (see, the bad news isn't really that bad at all) Did I mention that the car is BEAUTIFUL? So, contact me and we'll set up a VIEWING and a TEST DRIVE! |

Toyota prices TRD Pro Tacoma, 4Runner
Fri, 01 Aug 2014Toyota is finally all set to drop more details about the upcoming off-road ready TRD Pro Series models of the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra after first revealing them in February. These trucks and SUV might not get the big engine and other mods that desert-stormers like the Ford F-150 Raptor have, but they are still a nice step up over the stock versions. All of the TRD Pro vehicles come as 4x4 models with Bilstein shocks with remote reservoirs in the rear, TRD front springs, skid plates, black wheels, retro-inspired "TOYOTA" badging and TRD-branded floor mats and shift knobs on the inside. They're available in three colors: Inferno, Attitude Black Metallic and Super White.
The Tacoma hits the market first in early August with prices starting at $35,525, plus $885 for delivery, processing, and handling, for an Access Cab V6 with a six-speed manual. Opting for a five-speed automatic brings things up to $37,390 after the destination fee. A Double Cab with a manual goes for $37,320, or $38,300 for the automatic, after the delivery charges. The 4Runner follows in September with just a single trim priced at $41,110 - $41,995 after the charge - for the V6 and five-speed auto.
Toyota is holding off on revealing more about the Tundra for now. It's coming in the fall, but the company isn't announcing prices yet. We don't have to wait long, though. "Within the next month we'll reveal that," said Toyota spokesperson Sam Butto to Autoblog about the TRD Pro Tundra's price.
Toyota's Texas move could boost state's economy by $7.2B in 10 years
Thu, 15 May 2014They say everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently that includes the Toyota's effect on the economy. The giant Japanese automaker's new headquarters in Plano, TX, will add an estimated $7.2 billion to the state over the next 10 years, according to a new study commissioned by the city and cited by Bloomberg.
The benefits appear to be an absolute steal compared to the direct incentives that Plano and the state are giving Toyota. The report finds that by the time the automaker's campus is complete in 2018, it could have 3,650 full-time workers there at an average salary of $104,000. The city has prepared $6.75 million in grants, plus property tax discounts, according to Bloomberg. In addition to that, the state is offering the business $40 million in incentives from its Texas Enterprise Fund. This is still a fraction of what Toyota is estimated to bring in.
Toyota announced in April that it would move its US operations to Plano after being headquartered in California since 1957. The move affects thousands of employees from the sales and engineering divisions. The first workers will arrive there this fall, but Toyota will eventually have a whole campus in Plano by late 2017. The move is expected to save it huge amounts in taxation and offer employees a lower cost of living. Toyota North America CEO Jim Lentz also says that the Texas location puts the headquarters closer to more of the business' factories in the south. Texas certainly appears to be showing it some southern hospitality.
Toyota FT-86 Open Concept leaves us feeling flushed
Wed, 20 Nov 2013When last we checked in on our topless would-be hero, the Toyota FT-86 convertible had been reportedly placed on "indefinite hold." That was back in early October, not long after Toyota had trotted out the rear-wheel-drive canvasback to Scion dealers as a possible future product carrot if they decided not to turn in their franchises. And yet, we're here at the Tokyo Motor Show, where Toyota has taken the time to at least repaint the FT-86 Open Concept in "Flash Red," if not build a whole other car (the original Geneva showcar was white). It's enough to make our heads spin like a teenager on the verge of a breakup. Will they? Won't they?
At this point, we still don't know any more than you do - the last word we heard out of Toyota was not encouraging, although the story was that the program could still be fast-tracked if management had a change of heart. As the car has never been seen before in Japan, perhaps Toyota is merely extending its domestic audience a courtesy view before it lines this showcar in mothballs, or maybe they're still trying to make a decision on its fate and gauging public reaction on the homefront.
Interestingly, in a new story published today, Automotive News quotes Subaru brand boss Yasuyuki Yoshinaga downplaying the likelihood of a production model, saying flatly "We make the car, so if we don't make it, it can't happen." The executive went on to note, "Our engineering department told me that losing the entire roof requires a complete redesign of the structure. It would need a big change." Given that such a car would probably trade in rather small volumes, that sounds like a significant hurtle.
