1987 Toyota Corolla Ae86 on 2040-cars
Portland, Oregon, United States
Cons:
-bad rear end, will need towing. Ring and pinion are about to go out completely, can be moved under its own power for really short distances. -Stripped interior, was going to put a full roll cage in but lost my job then switched tracks and was trying to put a full interior back in. -Drivers side fender and grill are also gone -rattle can paint job (from a previous owner) worst side is drivers side where it's peeling. -timing belt and belt tension need replacing (have the parts in the car) -carb is whacky or timing needs to be done correctly (at operating temp and vacuum advanced disconnected and plugged) -3 of 4 tires are pretty much bald Falken Azenis RT615 track tires on, 4th is in the trunk (thought it was punctured so I put my spare on) turned out to be the coating on the aluminum wheel and a leaky valve stem -Power steering is disconnected, unknown working order. Good: -5k HIDs with brand new ballasts (new ballasts as of (12/27/13) -14x7 2nd gen Supra wheels WITH all center caps! -Engine has about 140k on it, original engine blew up last month -never let me down until today -tags goos til 2015 -Clean and clear title in my name -GTS front bumper (damaged on a corner) fixed with a few zip ties also have the lip and side pieces but a side piece needs a bracket (passenger side piece installed see pictures) -Re-manufactured GTS front brake calipers -Newer front and rear brake soft lines, under 2,000 miles on the rear about 4,000 on the fronts -have a clean undamaged red right fender (installed) -I know someone with a good ring and pinion gear in Kennewick Wa for $120 shipped -Other than the missing fender, grill, crap paint job and a small dent in the back of the car it's a pretty clean body (dent/damage wise) IMAGES: Please contact me for all current images! PAYMENT: I will accept ONLY PayPal and Cash as payment, no money orders or cashiers checks SHIPPING: Buyer is responsible for ALL shipping charges, including towing of vehicle to a shipping depot. Storage available for an extra fee (charged daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly) Pick-Up is preferred |

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year
Tue, 20 Aug 2013The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
Toyota GT86 gets TRD treatment in UK
Fri, 08 Feb 2013As dearly as we love the Toyota GT86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ franchise, we readily admit we wouldn't look sideways at a model with a bit more firepower. And while that's not quite on the table yet, Toyota has been busy amping up the visual firepower of its rear-drive coupe with a whole host of TRD parts. To this point, that's been a largely à la carte affair, but the automaker's UK outpost has just announced a special-edition model that allows our British friends to pick up the whole shooting match all in one go.
The Toyota GT86 TRD will only be available in black and white, and just 250 examples are to be built. As you can see from the excellent gallery above, the catalog of look-faster bits include a more aggressive front air dam, side skirts, rear bumper fascia, spoiler and unique 18-inch forged alloys. Additional flourishes include a TRD shift lever and branded radiator cap. The sole concession to actual performance? A "fast-response quad exhaust" that might only improve things audibly - 0-62 mph is apparently unchanged at 7.7 seconds, and the top end is still 140 mph for the manual transmission model. (The auto gets by with 8.4 seconds and 130 mph).
Pricing? Glad you asked. £31,495 for GT 86 TRD manual, £32,995 for the automatic - that's nearly $50,000 US for the tripedalist and just over for the automatic. (Those are heady prices, but bear in mind that UK MSRPs and taxes are generally significantly higher than their US counterparts). If the standard GT86 is more your speed, it still rings up at a more affordable £24,995 - roughly $39,500 - leaving plenty of budget for actual performance parts. No word yet on North American availability of a special TRD model, but we've got a call in...
Toyota FT-86 Open Concept would make a mighty fine droptop FR-S
Tue, 05 Mar 2013There's nothing wrong with going topless. And Toyota is proving that its FT-86 (read: Scion FR-S/Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ) coupe is just as excellent with its roof removed. It may only be a concept, but this FT-86 Open previews a new droptop from the Japanese automaker to round out the Toyobaru sports car family. We're finally getting the chance to see the open-air FT-86 in person here at the Geneva Motor Show, and we're already yearning to take it canyon-carving.
Interestingly, the FT-86 retains the Toyota coupe's two-plus-two seating arrangement (we'd prefer a proper roadster setup here), but things still look good for this droptop two-door. We'll be curious to see how the car looks with its folding soft top in place (operated by fancy-shmancy electronics, by the way).
As for production intent, rumors have been flying about a production Scion FR-S convertible, but until we hear it directly from Toyota. Consider our hopes in check but our fingers crossed.
