1983 Toyota Corolla Dlx Wagon 5-door 1.6l Automatic Daily Driver on 2040-cars
New York, New York, United States
YOU WILL GET TONS OF ATTENTION IN THIS CAR! Every red light in NYC someone's giving me the thumbs-up or telling me about the one they used to have.
For sale this 1983 Corolla wagon with the original 1.6 (gets tremendous gas mileage) and the automatic trans. This car is currently insured, registered, and inspected in New York with a clear title in my name. This is my daily driver; she gets parked on the streets of Manhattan at night and Brooklyn during the day. LOTS new on this ride done by a trusted legit mechanic, much of it with warranties. New; entire brake system including front calipers and rotors, rear drums and wheel cylinders, plus e-brake & cable. Stops on a dime with no pulling. New; entire front suspension including control arms, tie rods, bushings, shocks. New rear shocks as well. New; entire power steering system including a brand new steering rack and new pump. New water pump & thermostat. New timing belt just replaced. -Fog lights re-hooked up (they go on with the headlights automatically and look great). Has an aftermarket GT steering wheel; the horn works great but works from a button on the dash. The previous owner said the trans was rebuilt but I have no proof except that it shifts & downshifts perfectly. As I said I drive this beast every day and it gets unbelievable MPG. Full older custom exhaust was just checked out by an exhaust shop who declared that it is tight throughout. *The car is rusty with some holes; that yellow paint was sprayed right over the rust and it's bubbling in the back. *Driver's seat is loose on one side due to a recently broken mount or something. I drive with the back seat folded forward which props it up. *Radio does not work *A/C looks complete but doesn't blow cold *Dashboard is beat all to hell with huge cracks all over it. *Speedometer doesn't work and stopped at 163,000! (all other gauges work) I've had the car since springtime and have taken it to Boston, Providence, and New Paltz so I'm sure it's way up there. I got the feeling that before I got the car it hadn't been driven much in years. *Carb probably needs to be replaced as it runs rich. I don't really care since I usually go like 10 miles a day, but some days it smokes and really ought to be done. *Small oil leak that also smokes occasionally, and when it does it's smoky. |

Toyota, Mazda partner to build EVs at new $1.6 billion U.S. plant
Fri, Aug 4 2017TOKYO — Toyota and Mazda plan to build a $1.6 billion U.S. assembly plant, the two said on Friday, as part of an alliance that will also see the Japanese automakers jointly develop electric vehicle technologies. The two will take small stakes in each other as part of the tie-up: Toyota, the world's second-largest automaker by vehicle sales last year, will take a 5 percent share of Mazda, extending its dominance in Japan's auto sector. Mazda will take a 0.25 percent share of its larger rival. The plant, something of a surprise at a time of overcapacity in the U.S. market, will be a boost to U.S. President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to increase manufacturing and expand employment for American autoworkers. The plant will be capable of producing 300,000 vehicles a year, with production divided between the two automakers, and employ about 4,000 people. It will start operating in 2021. The electric vehicles cooperation, meanwhile, comes as the tightening of global emissions regulations prompts more automakers to develop battery powered cars, as the industry struggles with hefty research costs and intense competition from technology companies over technology like self-driving cars. As part of the agreement, Toyota and Mazda will also work together to develop in-car information technologies and automated driving functions. Toyota, Japan's biggest auto company, has been forging alliances with smaller Japanese rivals for several years, effectively engineering a loose consolidation of the Japanese auto sector. It already owns a 16.5 percent stake in Subaru, Japan's No. 6 automaker, with which it also has a development partnership. Toyota is also courting compact car maker Suzuki to cooperate on R&D and parts supply as Toyota seeks to tap its smaller rival's expertise in emerging Asian markets. A stake in Mazda may also prevent future incursions by tech companies, one analyst said. "For a technology company which lacks the expertise in making cars, Mazda could look like a very interesting acquisition. They're very good, they're not too expensive. Maybe Toyota realizes this," CLSA managing director Chris Richter said. "By buying a 5 percent stake, Toyota takes Mazda off the table rather than having it sit out there like a free agent which could someday be used against them." COROLLA PRODUCTION SHIFT Mazda stands to gain from a deal that gives the small automaker a production foothold in the United States.
New version of Toyota FT-1 Concept gets racy for Gran Turismo 6
Thu, 07 Aug 2014Gran Turismo 6 has been the preferred marketing springboard for quite a few brands and concept cars since its debut last winter. Specifically the GT Vision concept idea - allowing manufacturers a built-in place to offer up new, original, drivable content - has enticed the likes of Mercedes, Nissan, Volkswagen, Toyota and more to dream big on the digital stage before pulling the sheets back on real concept cars.
In fact, Toyota teamed its live reveal of the FT-1 Concept at the Detroit Auto Show with an in-game launch of the car, just this past January. Looking for a second bite at the GT6 apple, Toyota has just released a teaser video for a new, FT-1 Vision GT version of the same concept.
The company isn't giving us much to go on save for the 30-second video, saying only that the concept was penned by Toyota's Calty Design Research team in California, and that it will "soon be available for download." By the looks of it, the new FT-1 seems to be more of a racecar than the original, without obvious changes to the basic form. No word on whether or not there's a physical concept car in the offing at a yet-to-be-named auto show. Stay tuned.
HQ move based on study, not pitch from Gov. Perry, Toyota says
Tue, 29 Apr 2014Toyota's surprising announcement on Monday that it will move its North American headquarters from Torrance, CA location to the Dallas suburb of Plano, TX is allegedly not due to any political wrangling from the state's Republican governor, Rick Perry.
Perry (above) has been up front in his aggressive pursuit of businesses and jobs for Texas, traveling to California, Missouri, Illinois and New York to tempt corporations to his state. And it's not just about the promise of much lower taxes, a Perry spokesman reminds Automotive News that the state boasts, "a workforce that is skilled and ready to do any job."
For his part, Jim Lentz, Toyota's North American CEO said Plano was chosen through an internal process, with the location helped by its proximity to the company's massive pickup factory in San Antonio rather than any campaigning from the governor.
