Hi!

Up for sale is my beautiful 1980 Toyota Corolla Tercel. This was the first year the Tercel had been introduced into America and Toyota decided to add the "Corolla" name in order to ensure quality of the American public. I purchased the car from an auction estate sale. The car had been sitting for 7 years. I changed the oil, spark plugs, radiator, battery, air filter, distributer, and had the carb completely rebuild from Carbs unlimited in Fife, Washington. The car started right up and was running amazing well for sitting so long. The odometer reads 55005, could be 155000 however with the current condition of the inside I.E. dash, flooring, and clutch pedal I truly believe it only has 55k. It has a clean and Clear title in my name

I drive this car daily 60 Miles commute on the Freeway at speeds from 55-70 MPH with no problems yet.

The inside is in great condition. The dash, backseat, headliner, and floor are in mint condition. The floor does need to be cleaned a bit. The floor is the plastic waterproof flooring you would find in off road vehicles now. The drivers seat rear crossbar was broke when I purchased the car. The seat leather itself is mint, however with the back support broken internally I decided to switch seats out with a spare I already had. The passenger and rear seats are 10/10. The only problems with the interior are minor cracks starting to form on the head of the dash and some window tinting that needs to be removed.

I have installed a custom stereo that has a total value of $600. Four Infinity component speakers with an 8" Boston Acoustic sub in the trunk all being powered by a 5 channel Crunch Amp. I have the original stereo and speakers.

There are ZERO dents, I repeat zero dents on the car. Very straight. The paint however has lost its shine and needs to be buffed, buffed, waxed, buffed, and cleaned some more. I applied some rubbing compound to one spot and the shine came back. Just needs some hard work to get the whole car to new looking. There is no rust on the body, frame, anywhere really except the trunk. Obvious signs of rust at the bottom of the trunk, not visible except from inside the trunk. I covered it with some coating, the rust would need another 15 years to completely rust through at this rate.

The engine idles and runs just fine. I have no problem with my 60 mile commute to work on the freeway. Since the carb has been rebuilt the car will always start on the second crank, sometimes on the first, and always on the first if you are pushing the gas pedal ever so slightly. I know this is only a cold choke setting and will get it tuned under warranty with Carbs Unlimited out of Fife as soon as I have time available. I replaced the radiator and thermostat. The car has never overheated. Since the radiator replacement the upper radiator hose slightly pushes out coolant onto the top of the radiator. I replace the upper hose however it still leaks this slight amount of coolant every time the car is shut off. The car is leaking about a drop of oil every night, it appears to be coming from the oil pan gasket, I drive about 3500 miles between oil changes and am only half a quart short of full on the dipstick.

Brand new 12" tires.

In conclusion this car is a beauty, and I get a ton of looks. Above was absolutely everything that isn't 100% on the vehicle. I want to provide as much information as posible for someone before purchasing a car. Don't be fooled, this car is nice.
Heres the low down.

Pros:
CLEAN body
$600 stereo
$641 Full Carb Rebuild
Low Low Miles
Almost perfect interior
Strong Daily Driver
Straight Pipe Exhaust from the Cat
Brand new tires

Cons:
Hardly has a synchro
Slight oil leak
Cold choke needs adjusting
Hard to find parts

Has the auto industry hit peak hybrid?

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Hybrids are known for their great fuel economy and low emissions, but it looks like given current market conditions, only about three percent of new car consumers are willing to pay the premium for them. A new study from IHS/Polk finds that the hybrid market share among overall US auto sales are falling, despite more models with the technology on sale than ever before.
The study examined new car registrations in March from 2009 through 2014. In that time, the auto industry grew from 24 to 47 hybrid models available to consumers, but market share for the powertrain remained almost stagnant in that time. As of 2009, hybrids held 2.4 percent of the market; it fell slightly to 2.3 percent in 2010 and grew to 3.3 percent in 2013. However, 2014 showed a drop back to 3 percent. Overall hybrid sales have been growing since 2010, but they just aren't keeping up with the total auto market.
According to IHS/Polk, this isn't what you would expect to see. Usually, each new model in the market brings along with it a boost in sales. The growth in hybrid models 2009 to 2014 should have shown a larger increase in share for the segment.

Sales incentive growth clustered around brands with few CUVs, trucks

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

While it's arguably been around the longest, the dominance of the four-door sedan has been under threat for many years. As a further sign of the hurtin' that SUVs and crossovers have put on today's four-doors, a new report from Automotive News points to the increasing use of incentives by brands reliant on cars and light on CUVs and pickups.
Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Kia have all been stung by double-digit increases in their incentives-to-transaction price ratio, according to AN, which cites data from TrueCar. Honda's ratio is up 14 percent, while Toyota, VW and Kia are up 18, 15 and 19 percent, respectively.
"Most of the incentive growth we have seen is in product segments with low demand - midsized or large sedans," TrueCar CEO John Krafcik told AN. "As this trend goes on, the brands with three-sedan strategies are going to be in worse shape on incentive spending than the crossover brands."

Toyota pondering high-performance GT86 hybrid?

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

From what Autocar has to say, Toyota has even more plans for the GT86 beyond the convertible concept we just saw at the Geneva Motor Show. Along with a planned midcycle facelift, Toyota is reportedly looking at how to pack some extra ponies under the coupe's hood, and while there has already been a lot of talk about superchargers and turbochargers, it sounds like a performance-boosting hybrid system could also be in the works.
Talking to Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, Autocar has learned that the automaker is considering an electrical motor assist for the sporty coupe to improve performance without harming fuel economy. In attempting to keep weight - and, presumably, costs - down, the article mentions the use of a system closer to what Honda uses for its Integrated Motor Assist rather than a full Hybrid Synergy Drive system used in current Toyota hybrids. Tada says the added weight of the system could be offset by weight reduction, while aerodynamic changes and a lower center of gravity could improve the car's handling.
No word yet on whether a mild hybrid system would find its way to North America's Scion FR-S - let alone its Subaru BRZ twin - but the thought is certainly an intriguing one.
