Excellent, and rare completely stock 1986 Toyota Celica GT-S Liftback with a low 132k miles. 135hp 2.0 liter 3S-GE engine with 5speed transmission. This very clean and sharp Celica has been extremely well maintained and shows very nicely. Here are some of the highlights:
-Original California vehicle that has very little rust on it. The underside of this car is extra clean with no rust on the floor boards. - Original leather front and rear seats have been covered with custom made simulated leather covers tailored just for these seats in the original blue color. Very nice and they give new life to the interior. - Carpets in excellent shape. No cracks in original dash board. New leather steering wheel cover and shift boot. - Top of car above white side stripe has been recently repainted original blue due to faded clear coat. -New windshield. - New resonator and stock style replacement muffler. -Timing belt and water pump replaced at 98K miles - New rear pads and rotors. - AC converted to R134A, and blows nice and cold. - A/M F/M CD player with new front speakers. - New stock size 205/60R14 replacement tires on stock GT-S Wheels. - Recent plugs, cap, rotor and wires. -New front and rear KYB struts - New right front axle. - New radiator - New battery - Everything works: Power door locks, windows, auto climate control and cruise control. - Many new spare parts: Factory new starter motor, new OEM manifold heat shield, new OEM coolant bottle. - Drives straight and smooth on the highway. Very nice to cruise in. Gets around 27 MPG in town. - Transmission shifts well, though 2nd gear can be a little balky at times. This apparently is common on this type of vehicle. It has never been an issue for me while driving it. Clutch is in good shape with no slippage. - Engine is all original with excellent compression. It does leak and burn a little oil. Mostly on start up due to valve guide seals typical of vintage cars this age. The auction does include an ATK re-manufactured complete cylinder head with all valve train components and cams. I had originally planned on installing this, but found the car ran so good, that I would just add a little oil from time to time. - This car has been my daily driver in nice weather for the last 3 years. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, and it does have a current inspection sticker. It pains me to sell it, but I needed to get a vehicle I could drive in the winter and in the salt, which I was not willing to do with this car because it is so clean. Someone will be gaining a very nice, unique and rare car, with Toyota legendary reliability. This car is also for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Please no international bidders, or bidders with negative feedback. No 0 feedback bidders. Please no SCAMS. $500 paypal deposit due within 2 days of auction end. Payment balance due in cash or bank cashiers check 7 days from auction end. Vehicle shipping winning bidders responsibility. Vehicle must be picked up no later than 10 days after auction end, unless other arrangements are made with seller. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or you would like to come see the vehicle. Thanks for looking and good luck! - On Oct-16-13 at 10:05:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Please Note: The buy it now price includes complete ATK of Japan re-manufactured 3S-GE long block engine assembly in original bag and shipping crate separate from description above. This engine was offered by ATK as an overstock/deadstock item. Shipping or transport of engine would also be buyers responsibility. (engine weighs aprox 230lbs if you want to figure out freight). This engine is complete with water pump and timing belt.It fits 86-87 Celica GT-S with external EGR and 8 bolt flywheel 10mm bolts. Also comes with complete installation gasket set. |

This Japanese ad for the Toyota Prius Plug In is beyond confusing
Fri, Jun 20 2014We'll admit we don't understand all of this strange little ad for the Toyota Prius Plug In (our Japanese skills are not what they once were) but that just makes it all the more fascinating. The takeaway point is that a world full of PHEV Priuses will be astonishingly colorful at time and exciting, with food being delivered by a neck plug. Or something like that. We recommend clicking below and just watching the 60-second spot (and the short making-of video) but if you'd rather read here's what we have figured out: There's some airline-pilot type guy who is visited by who he calls his sister. The voiceover says she's some kind of saleswoman, and she begins to talk up the plug-in Prius alongside the J-Pop group AKB48 Team 8, telling the crowd – including a man in a big, round bird mask – how easy it is to plug in. The old man watching the J-Pop girls tells the woman next to him, "I have their CD." Then we see the original duo back home and the guy says he's hungry before plugging in a blue energy wire. The same wire that then starts charging a Prius. That may not really clarify anything, but there you have it. Watch for yourself below. At the very least, we won't confuse this ad for one from another automaker. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
Toyota moving US headquarters to Plano, Texas
Mon, 28 Apr 2014It's official, Toyota is relocating its US operations to Plano, TX. And it won't be a symbolic 'all ranch and no cattle' gesture - the Japanese automaker, whose headquarters have been in California since 1957, has decided to base nearly all of its operations in the Lone Star State, including much of its engineering, finance and sales and marketing teams.
The move, which will see the establishment of a new headquarters campus in the Dallas suburb will not only affect employees at the company's current Torrance, CA Toyota Motor Sales USA campus, it will also touch the lives of thousands of employees at the company's other operations, including 1,000 workers at Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America in Erlanger, KY and some New York-based staff as well. The Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, MI is not facing relocation, however, and it actually stands to gain responsibilities as Toyota overhauls its US org chart. Toyota says that its reorganization will affect about 4,000 employees in total.
According to Automotive News, while Toyota is adopting an "'everyone is invited' stance for the relocation," some attrition is expected from employees who aren't interested in relocating southward from the Golden State. For its part, the automaker is reportedly making expenses-paid visits to Plano available to full-time staffers and spouses to help them make the relocation decision, as well as a lump-sump payment if they decide to go through with the move.
