Hello.  For sale is a 1992 Toyota Celica GT Convertible.  The car has been sitting inside for 10 years.  It cranks over but we did not try to start it as we did not want to pull the any bad gas through the system.  It ran and drove perfect back 10 years ago.  It has 152k miles.  The prior owner had a new Toyota engine installed in it around 60k miles as the original engine was blown when the technician forgot to put oil in it when doing an oil change!  With a battery charger connected the following power options worked:  the power top, power head lights, windows, locks, fans for heat/air and head lights.  The radio did not come on.  The paint is faded.  We had the passenger rear quarter repainted back 10 years ago after I dinged the quarter with a broom handle so the quarter sticks out like a sore thumb (you can see paint difference in pictures).  I doubt a buffing / rubbing would bring the paint back though.  The top has some stitching pulled and the rear window is fogged up.  It does have some dents and dings and the passenger side has a long scratch on the door protector (you can see in pictures).  Brakes go to floor so likely a wheel cylinder or line or fitting gave in somewhere.  Has some rust on the under carriage as could be expected.  Car wasn't driven in winter.  Interior is in amazing shape.  Wheels have pitting and brake dust stains.  Solid restoration candidate! The car would need to obviously be towed.  It is being sold As Is, Where Is and does not have any warranty.  Please ask any questions.

Toyota engineer warns automous cars could increase fuel use, urban sprawl

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

An increasing number of people are starting to consider the potential downsides of a transition to autonomous cars. The FBI is already looking at them for the potential ill effects on law enforcement, and a scientist for Toyota is raising the possibility that driverless vehicles could actually be detrimental to the environment over the long term.
Ken Laberteaux, who studies future transportation for Toyota, thinks that autonomous cars could lead to more pollution, not less, says Bloomberg. However, Laberteaux's theory isn't so much based purely on science as it is considering behavioral and historical trends. "US history shows that anytime you make driving easier, there seems to be this inexhaustible desire to live further from things," said Laberteaux during a presentation at the Automated Vehicles Symposium in San Francisco, CA, cited by Bloomberg.
Laberteaux's belief is that if commuters can make their drives easier, then they will be more willing to live farther away from the cities where they work. The end result would be more urban sprawl and increased pollution from the longer travel times.

Japanese dealer petitioning Lexus for luxury van [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Used to be that if you wanted a luxury automobile - especially one to be chauffeured around in - your choices were basically limited to a sedan. It could be bigger or smaller, more or less expensive, depending on your needs and budget, but it was always going to have four doors and a trunk. But these days the rich and famous are looking elsewhere for their commodious forms of pampering transportation. There are, of course, the crossovers and SUVs, which only seem to be getting bigger and more expensive thanks to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Range Rover L and upcoming Bentley sport-ute. But luxury vans are becoming the new big thing.
That's the point that one dealer in Japan is trying to make to Toyota. The dealership owner himself reasons that if he's going out on the town, he's likely to take his chauffeured Lexus LS. But if he's taking a few friends along, even the biggest sedan isn't going to cut it. So he takes a Toyota Alphard (pictured above, also known as the Vellfire), a JDM van that's even bigger than a Voxy/Noah or Sienna but hardly a high-end affair. That's why he's asking Lexus to make a luxury van.
The idea may seem a little far-fetched, but isn't without precedent. It didn't take much for Lexus to transform the Land Cruiser into the LX and thus create its first luxury SUV. And as Mercedes has shown with pimped-out versions of the Sprinter and now with the debut of the new V-Class in Geneva, there's clearly a market for it... in some countries, anyway. The only question in our minds is how long it's going to take other luxury automakers to catch on, because let's face it: the Chrysler Town & Country ain't gonna cut it for those used to be driven around in a Maybach.

Toyota to ramp up Tacoma production in Mexico by 41%

Sun, 21 Sep 2014

The Toyota Tacoma may be getting on in age, but that isn't stopping the Japanese manufacturer from ramping up production at the pickup's Baja California factory. The Mexican plant will soon be home to another 300 jobs as it increases total capacity by 41 percent. The increase is slated for April 2015.
The move is a curious one, considering the Tacoma's age and the fact that General Motors is preparing what, on the surface, appear to be two very competent challengers. The factory increase could be in preparation for the 2016 Taco (spy photos shown above), which is expected to represent a significant overhaul of the long-serving truck.
Toyota's decision to increase capacity could also be due to the factory building freeze implemented by President Akio Toyoda, according to Automotive News. Toyoda put a hold on new factories until 2016, asking executives to squeeze as much production as possible out of remaining factories before bringing any additional facilities online.
