For sale is a restored 1974 Toyota Celica.

I have spent the last 10 years owning, loving and restoring this car to the condition you see it in now. I first purchaced this car from a lady in Carlsbad, Ca around the first part of 2003. It was a rather sad looking pea green with a black vinyl top, an 18R-C engine and an automatic transmission. Through all the paperwork I was supplied I have concluded I am roughly the 5th owner and the second longest owner of all. The car spent the majority of its early life in the temperate climate of Washington state. It was sold new at what is now Buzz Rowland Toyota in Everett, WA. The salesman was Burt Applegate. I have the original sales book with his information as well as numerous recipts from the cars various owners over the last 40 years. I also have nearly all the recipts and logs from my ownership as well.

Drivetrain:

The engine is the very sought after 18RG 2.0ltr twin cam variety with the factory dual 40 mm Mikuni/Solex Carburetors. This car was sold new in the US with the 18R-C single cam version. This engine is the correct Japanese spec engine this car was designed to have. The engine is equipped with an MSD 6A multi spark box as well as electronic distributor and Blaster 2 coil. In addition the Toysport/TRD headers have been installed and ceramic coated. The top end of the engine was just serviced with headgasket and valve adjustment about 3 months ago as well as a mild port match and port smoothing. Engine starts and runs very strong. Behind the powerful 18RG sits the robust W50 5spd transmission. All synchros and internals feel to be in excellent shape with nice clean shifts. The clutch, plate and throw out bearings are new since restoration.

New:

-Water pump

-Headgasket,head surfaced

Cyl Head performance gasket matched and int/exh runners smoothed

-Front/Rear main seals

-Spark Plugs

-Spark plug wires

-Alternator

-Cooling switch

-Cooling Fan

-Headers

-Exhaust system

-Top end gaskets, intake, exhaust etc.

-Thermostat

-Radiator recored

-Clutch assembly,plate, bearing,disk

-Slave cyl

-Master break cyl

-Rear wheel cylinders

-Stainless break lines

-Front calipers

-Front wheel bearings

-Starter

Exterior:

We started with a remarkably rust free car to begin with. What little rust could be found was expertly removed and then clean matching metal was welded in place. This is a completely restored rust free chassis and undercarriage. The exterior has had it's front and rear sidemarkers shaved as well as the side moulding and side badging. All new weather stripping has been installed.  Many hours of body work were poured in along with thousands of dollars to achieve the beautiful lines you see here. Finally the 2001 Mercedes Benz "Bahama Blue" paint was laid in June 2012. The wheels are Konig Rewind 15" wrapped in Kumho 195/50 tires and are also new additions to the restoration.

Interior:

The interior has been completely gone through. We have installed brand new upholstery on the front and rear seats, the 2 cracks in the dash pad have been addressed by installing the proper dash cap. The center console assemble has been restored. New carpet installed as well as period correct sewn headliner. One of the finer points on the car are it's rare and pristine rear interior C-pillar covers which are always destroyed on cars of this vintage. The rear deck was rebuilt and for a custom touch has had the two stars from the Celica Dragon's wings embossed into the vinyl, in addition two full range kicker speakers are installed that match the speakers in the front door panels. The Kicker speakers are powered by an Alpine amplifier in the trunk and signal is provided by a JVC media unit with Hands free calling and bluetooth connectivity.

There really is simply too much too list in this limited forum. If you are at all familiar with Celicas of this vintage, the truest of the 1st generation you are quite aware of the level of difficulty in finding a good specimen for restoration, harder still is finding one that has this level of attention paid to it. One item of particular pride albeit a mundane item is it's heater valve. This car has had one of only a handful of truly new heater valves installed available in the world, great thing if you'd like a llittle heat in the colder times of year. I have loved and will continue to love this car even after it's found it's new home. I am readyto move on to other projects and let another individual enjoy what I've spent so long building.

If you have any questions, if you have ny reservations about this vehicle I invite you to contact me and I am happy to speak with you at length. The car is available for sale locally and is available for viewing, testing and inspection by apointment.

Vehicle is for sale locally, I reserve the right to end this auction early if sold elsewhere.

Things of note the new owner may wish to address: Car could use a new set of shocks and struts. Door window regulators could use a good greasing. There is a minor oil leak from around the fuel pump housing, could use a gasket. Drivers front wheel got a bit of curb rash accidentally, should be seen in pictures by following the above link. The rear windows are off track, will need adjustment to properly roll up and down, this is why the cranks are off, cranks are included in sale. Please feel free to message me for my phone number to talk about the car if you like.

Toyota develops new pre-collision system with steering assist

Sun, 13 Oct 2013

A number of automakers are working on developing fully autonomous cars, but it looks like the groundwork for such technologies will likely show up first as semi-autonomous systems for both safety and convenience. Following recent announcements from Nissan and Ford in this area, Toyota has now released information for some of its advanced semi-autonomous technologies that could be offered in production cars over the next few years.
On the safety front, Toyota's new pre-collision system with pedestrian-avoidance steering assist is aimed at protecting the folks who aren't in the car. This system combines visual and audible alerts with automatic brake assist and automatic steering. If warnings don't get the driver to slow down, the brake assist kicks in if a collision is very likely, but if that is still not able to avoid the impending collision (and if there is enough room to do so), the car can automatically steer itself around the pedestrian. This sounds most beneficial for last-second dangers such as a person accidently stepping out into the road in front of a car. Toyota hopes to have this technology available to customers by 2015.
The Japanese automaker is also testing a suite of technologies called Automated Highway Driving Assist (AHDA). The key part of this is a new adaptive cruise control system that uses vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications rather than a radar-based system. This cooperative-adaptive cruise control allows vehicles to communicate their acceleration and deceleration data with other cars, which Toyota says this helps to improve fuel efficiency and traffic flow. Also a part of AHDA is the Lane Trace Control feature, which sounds like a next-gen lane keep assist. This system uses cameras, radar and a computer to keep the vehicle in a "smooth driving line" by being able to change steering angle, engine torque and braking force. Toyota says this technology could be in place by the "mid-2010s."

The 2022 Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR 86 aftermarket upgrader's guide

Wed, Sep 1 2021

When you own an enthusiast car, there are few events more nerve-wracking than the introduction of its successor. Should you upgrade? Is it worthwhile? What will it cost you to part out your mods and trade up? Well, there's good news for owners of the outgoing Scion FR-S, Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ who are considering an upgrade: You might not have to start with a clean slate.  If you’re an owner (or even a casual fan) of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota 86 family of sports coupes, youÂ’re probably already aware that the 2022 models are more like aggressive overhauls than true, ground-up redesigns. Neither company really wants to put a spotlight on the fact that their coupes are a little less "all-new" and a little more "back and better than ever," but in our opinion, this is something Subaru and Toyota should embrace.  Why? In a word: continuity. Look no further than the NA (1989-1997) and NB (1999-2005) Mazda Miata. While they are regarded as distinct generations (the NA defined by its pop-up headlights and simpler lines; the NB by its fixed lamps and swoopier styling) and were offered with different equipment packages, the fundamental underlying chassis remained relatively unchanged. This meant that, in many cases at least, buyers could trade up to a new model but bring along some of their factory and aftermarket accessories because theyÂ’d still fit. The BRZ and GR 86 are meant to be fairly bare-bones vehicles, the idea being that they appeal to those who want limited frills at a low cost and those who prefer to view cars as canvases rather than finished masterpieces. A long-running platform makes an excellent candidate for the latter type of car buyer. So, what does that mean for the 2022 BRZ and GR 86? Well, let's break it down by whatÂ’s truly new, whatÂ’s kind-of-new, and whatÂ’s essentially carry-over, with some guidance from Subaru and Toyota engineers.  2022 Subaru BRZ blue action profile View 22 Photos Spankin' new LetÂ’s start with the obvious: the styling. Even if you can find older aftermarket appearance kits that will fit the new BRZ and GR 86 on paper, they probably wonÂ’t bolt up nicely to the new cars due to their sleek new exterior designs. Wings and spoilers might still bolt up, but donÂ’t count on it, and theyÂ’ll probably look disjointed at best anyway.

Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability.
