I purchased this All Trac for my girlfriend to drive to her work in Tahoe during the snowy months.  Unfortunately we had the least amount of precipitation in Tahoe history and the car was used less than 500 miles over the winter.  I have owned 40 + German cars and this was my first Japanese car purchase.  I've been impressed to say the least.  Other than needing a clutch the car has been nothing but reliable.  I replaced the clutch with a proper genuine AISIN Toyota clutch.  I replaced the belts, distributor shaft seal, put in new Toyota coolant, gave it Mobil 1 5w-40 and it has been nothing but reliable.  I also replaced the middle and rear sections of the exhaust system with new bolt in parts.(no hacks or welds)   I am moving and its going to be easier to just let this project go.  I had plans to repaint it and bring it back to as close to new as possible but I have other projects that come first.

I purchased the car outside of Reno, NV.  It still has the Window sticker from Carson City Toyota where it was originally sold new in the glove box.  Although somewhat worn the car still has its Toyota of Carson City, NV floor mats in it.

The car has been in the Reno/Carson valley area its whole life and is extremely dry with no rust.  The paint on the roof has typical Nevada sun damage as well as the hood and trunk.  The car does have a few dings and some light damage on the passenger side rear wheel well.  The car has an aftermarket sun roof that does not leak.  Please take a good look at all of the photos.

The burgundy interior is in nice condition.  Dash is perfect and has a carpet cover but there are no cracks under the cover. All gauges work. It has a CD player from a Scion which fits perfectly and looks stock.  Drivers seat has an area of wear (see photo)  Passenger side rear door interior panel is damaged. (see photo).  All four power windows / locks work.

Overall this is a nice solid car that could be made really nice with little effort.  I can't really think of a more reliable AWD sedan for the money.

I urge you to check the car out in person before placing a bid on it.  This is Ebay. The high bidder owns it.  I will answer all questions within 24 hours and take additional photos when requested.  Vehicle is currently located in Grass Valley, CA.  Please email me with any questions through Ebay.  Let me know if you would like additional photos of certain areas.

What it needs:
A/C system needs to be charged
Battery does not appear to be the original size but works just fine
Hood has a ding on drivers front corner, few dents and dings
Trunk lid does not stay open on its own
bumper covers are faded and slightly wavy
Shocks appear to be original, drives nice but probably due for replacement
Paint is oxidized from sun in areas.
I get a small drop of oil on the ground after parking it.  Have not looked into it.

THE GOOD
Clean California title
Passes smog with flying colors
All gauges/ interior lighting works
All exterior lights work (turn signals, tail, headlight, etc)
Shifts perfectly.
Push button center diff lock comes on and off almost instantly like it should

NADA BLUE BOOK VALUE IS

LOW $2,869
AVERAGE RETAIL $4,505
HIGH RETAIL $5,568

Thanks for looking and good luck !

(vanity plates do not come with the car, bring your own license plates or tags)

*****I require a $500 deposit through Paypal within 24 hours and the rest in cash upon pick up.  Money orders and cashiers checks will need 5 days to clear my bank.  The car will not leave my possession until my bank says the funds have cleared.*****

On Aug-06-14 at 21:29:18 PDT, seller added the following information:

I've been asked what the car needs to be driven.  Nothing really.  I drove it to San Francisco and back recently (3hrs each way) without issue.  The car has been mainly sitting for the last 6 months and should be looked over as any car that has not been driven much should be. There is a slight noise on deceleration every once in a while.  It is not coming from the driveline.  I think it may be an exhaust mount/ hanger.

Ford fights back against patent trolls

Fri, Feb 13 2015

Some people are just awful. Some organizations are just as awful. And when those people join those organizations, we get stories like this one, where Ford has spent the past several years combatting so-called patent trolls. According to Automotive News, these malicious organizations have filed over a dozen lawsuits against the company since 2012. They work by purchasing patents, only to later accuse companies of misusing intellectual property, despite the fact that the so-called patent assertion companies never actually, you know, do anything with said intellectual property. AN reports that both Hyundai and Toyota have been victimized by these companies, with the former forced to pay $11.5 million to a company called Clear With Computers. Toyota, meanwhile, settled with Paice LLC, over its hybrid tech. The world's largest automaker agreed to pay $5 million, on top of $98 for every hybrid it sold (if the terms of the deal included each of the roughly 1.5 million hybrids Toyota sold since 2000, the company would have owed $147 million). Including the previous couple of examples, AN reports 107 suits were filed against automakers last year alone. But Ford is taking action to prevent further troubles... kind of. The company has signed on with a firm called RPX, in what sounds strangely like a protection racket. Automakers like Ford pay RPX around $1.5 million each year for access to its catalog of patents, which it spent nearly $1 billion building. "We take the protection and licensing of patented innovations very seriously," Ford told AN via email. "And as many smart businesses are doing, we are taking proactive steps to protect against those seeking patent infringement litigation." What are your thoughts on this? Should this patent business be better managed? Is it reasonable that companies purchase patents only to file suit against the companies that build actual products? Have your say in Comments.

Toyota CamRally is vanilla spiced

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

We weren't quite sure it was possible, but NASCAR driver Parker Kligerman and the other folks behind this Toyota Dream Build Challenge vehicle (check out the other cars in the challenge) have made the Camry, a versatile but vanilla family sedan, into a performance car to be reckoned with. And by stripping it (literally) of its versatility and injecting some spice into it, this rally-spec Camry does indeed appeal to the enthusiast crowd.
The appeal starts with the CamRally's vintage Toyota racing colors of red, orange and yellow painted on a widened body. Those wide fender flares and rocker panels, paired with the revised front and rear fascias (and massive rear spoiler), lend the car an aggressive look without being tacky, and enhance the aerodynamics. But peel back the skin and you'll find plenty of performance upgrades to back up the looks.
While Toyota doesn't say how much horsepower it makes, the CamRally's V6 is turbocharged, and we assume the car's brake upgrade is indicative of the engine's increased output. The stripped interior only contains what's needed for rally racing, including bucket seats, a motorsport steering wheel covered in Alcantara, a carbon-fiber dashboard and a roll cage.

Toyota's refreshed Sai is a Lexus HS by any other name

Wed, 04 Sep 2013

Toyota first launched Lexus in the United States back in 1989, but it wasn't until 2005 that it brought the luxury marque home to roost. But don't think that Toyota didn't find a way of selling many of its premium models in the Japanese Domestic Market in the meantime. The Lexus LS was sold as the Toyota Celsion, the ES as the Vista and Camry Prominent, and the SC as the Soarer. (We could go on, but you get the point.)
These days Lexus sells in markets around the world, including Japan, but Toyota still spins off its own versions of Lexus models to sell domestically as well. Like the new Sai, for example. Sharing its platform, hybrid propulsion and much more with the Lexus HS (which you may remember as the world's first dedicated luxury hybrid until it was pulled from the market early last year), the Sai was introduced to Japan at the same time as the HS was rolled out around the world. Now nearly four years on the market, Toyota has given it a bit of a refresh.
Boasting a far more aggressive front end and a restyled rear, the revised Sai features LED headlights, 16-inch alloys and a higher-quality interior in which JDM buyers will find a new center console and trim, along with an optional 10-speaker infotainment system. Toyota also boasts that the new Sai is made of 20-percent Ecological Plastic and recycled resin.
