Additional Information about Toyota Camry 2012 LE

Model Overview
Toyota's Camry has been given a redesign for 2012, but Toyota didn't mess with success when it came to the fundamentals. It's still offered in both gas and hybrid versions and while styling changes have been made, it's still unmistakably Camry throughout. Buyers still have their choice of the base L, LE, sporty SE and top-level XLE models. Hybrid buyers can now choose between LE or XLE trims.Engines receive few changes for the new model year. Base-level Camrys come equipped with a 2.5L inline 4-cylinder engine that makes 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque--an improvement of 9 horsepower and 3 pound-feet of torque over the 2011 model. The SE and XLE models can be fitted with a 268-horsepower 3.5L V6. Both of these engines are paired to a 6-speed automatic as the only transmission choice. The Hybrid has been given two available trim levels for 2012: LE and XLE. Both come with a 2.5L 4-cylinder mated to an electric motor for a combined 200 horsepower. The car can run on either powerplant individually, or it can pair them together, depending on conditions. A button on the dash allows the driver to select an EV only mode, which can be used up to 25 mph, depending on the battery charge. A CVT transmission is standard.Interior space has been enhanced thanks to the redesign, which slightly reshaped the body to allow more usable room for rear seat passengers. Improved sound deadening has been added as well, helping to limit road noise. Safety features include front-side airbags, curtain-side airbags, driver and passenger front knee airbags, an antiskid system, traction control and anti-lock brakes.Standard features on all Camrys include cruise control, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, air conditioning, Bluetooth, USB/iPod interface and outside temperature gauge. Six-speaker stereos are also standard, however, the LE and 4-cylinder-equipped SE and XLE models get Toyota's Display Audio system, complete with 6.1-inch touchscreen. Six-cylinder models get a slightly better version of the Display Audio system, which adds navigation, HD and satellite radio. Toyota's new Entunes system is also part of the package, pairing with a smartphone to facilitate the use of popular mobile apps like Pandora, and allowing voice control of many of the car's functions. The upgraded system is optional on 4-cylinder SE and XLE models. A top-level version, with a 7-inch screen, is available on V6 XLE models.A multitude of options are available, depending on the trim. A Convenience Package with a proximity unlock system and push button ignition is available and a backup camera can be ordered on SE and 4-cylinder XLE models, but it's standard on the V6-equipped XLE. Leather seats are optional on 4-cylinder XLE models and standard on the V6 XLE. Other options include a wireless cell phone link, heated seats and a blind spot detection system.

2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES

Fri, Jan 2 2015

Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned. Senator pushes for up to life sentence for auto execs found to delay recalls

Tue, Aug 5 2014

Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill (shown above) has had it with automotive execs stalling when it comes to recalls. The Missiourian has proposed a new bill, the Motor Vehicle and Highway Safety Enhancement Act, which aims to improve the automotive safety following the high-profile fiascos involving General Motors and Toyota. Aside from a doubling of the budget for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over the next six years and the removal of the $35-million limit for fining automakers, the plan includes a provision that would punish auto executives if it's discovered they knowingly delayed recalls. How will it punish them, you ask? Oh, you know, just life in prison. The bill "gives federal prosecutors greater discretion to bring criminal prosecutions for auto safety violations and increases the possible penalties, including up to life in prison for violations that result in death," McCaskill's office told The Detroit News. If a delayed recall led to serious injuries, meanwhile, execs could still face a 15-year stint behind bars. As for that change in the fine structure for automakers, the removal of the limit is complemented by a hefty increase in the per-vehicle fine, from $5,000 to $25,000. With this change, GM could have been on the hook for $55 billion (with a "b") in fines for its bumbling of the ignition switch recall, rather than just $35 million. The News says, though, that NHTSA has "wide discretion" in handing out the fines. Considering a $55-billion fine is enough to sink any automaker, it is unlikely that such a monumental sum would be handed out. Still, the potential threat of such a death sentence should be enough for any automaker to sit up and take notice. "With millions of Americans behind the wheel every day, and more than 33,000 killed on our roads each year, we've got to do more to keep our cars and the roads we drive them on safe," McCaskill said, according to The News. "Painful recent examples at Toyota and GM have shown us we also must make it easier to hold accountable those who jeopardize consumers' safety. For too long, auto safety resources have remained virtually stagnant while cars and the safety challenges they present have become more complex." What do you think? Do you agree with McCaskill's proposed bill? Should the punishments for automakers and execs be more or less harsh? Have your say in Comments. News Source: The Detroit NewsImage Credit: J.

Toyota expands airbag recall to 2.27M vehicles worldwide

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

Was your Toyota inspected under the company's recall campaign for faulty airbag inflators last year? You might have another trip ahead to have it repaired again. The automotive giant says that it found "the involved serial numbers provided by the supplier were incomplete, and did not include all of the potentially involved inflators," according to its official announcement. That means more replacements are needed.
Toyota's April 2013 inflator recall covered the Corolla, Matrix and Tundra from the 2003 and 2004 model years, the Sequoia from 2002 to 2004 and the Lexus SC 430 from 2002 to 2004. At the time, the company said it would need to inspect about 510,000 vehicles in the US but only expected to replace around 170,000 inflators.
However, the latest announcement increases that figure to about 766,300 vehicles in the US. Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the new amount is the combination of owners who need to have their vehicle looked at again and those who didn't come in for the initial recall. The company learned about the problem when Takata, the supplier, provided it with an improved list of the faulty part's serial numbers. According to The Detroit News, the latest recall affects about 2.27 million vehicles from them worldwide. Knight said owners would receive notification of the problem around the end of the month but repairs would come in phases because the automaker doesn't have all of the necessary parts at the moment.
