1994 Toyota Camry - Very Rare 2 Door California Coupe on 2040-cars
Grapevine, Texas, United States
Story:
This has been a great daily driver for the last 17 years. I am very sorry to part with it. I just don't have the time to put into fixing the engine and front suspension. The car drives great, much more like a sports car than an economy car because of the great suspension, wheel and tire upgrades. I have the entire service history for the car since 1996 when my wife purchased the car. This is a very rare 2 door coupe, very few were made and I've only seen two others in the entire time I've driven this car. The car needs a good home and someone who has the time to put into it and can appreciate the uniqueness of the car. I can email additional pics if needed. Viewings are welcome. Full Details: Body - straight no rust, never been in an accident, back plastic "camry" panel has chips around the top left corner. Paint - needs good polishing, rock chips around hood, small chips around the car, bumpers scatched and small scratch on right rear quarter panel. Interior - excellent - no issues. Air conditioning - excellent - blows cold. Power windows - excellent. Electricals - excellent all gauges and warning lights, all electricals working. Brakes - excellent - recent brake job done. Tires - excellent - only 5000 miles on a set of new michelin pilot sport A/S3 225x50x16 Y speed rated. Suspension - excellent sport suspension which lowered the car about an inch, but needs front strut mounts. Engine - all services up to date, but it is overheating due to blown head gasket. Transmission - excellent. |

Japan offering $20,000 incentives for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
Wed, Jul 23 2014That tailwind Toyota may be feeling in Japan won't be from a stiff breeze off the northern Pacific Ocean. The Japanese automaker is getting ready to start selling its first production hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle in its native country next year. And the government is ponying up real big in incentives, Reuters says. The Japanese government will provide incentives worth about $20,000 per fuel-cell vehicle, Reuters reports, citing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. That sort of government money will bring Toyota's first hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle to the customer at under $50,000. Just so we're clear, Japan's incentives for battery-electric vehicles top out at about $8,500. That sound you hear is a bunch of Nissan executives tearing their hair out. Last month, Toyota said the price for the fuel-cell sedan would be about $69,000 in Japan, and while the company hasn't priced it for US consumption, the word's out that the car may be in the $50,000 range stateside. The fuel-cell sedan, which has a full-tank range of about 300 miles, goes on sale in Japan next April and will start sales in Europe and the US next summer. Honda is also debuting its first production fuel-cell vehicle next year, so Toyota's got company among automakers who are probably all raising a glass and saying "kampai" to the Japanese government right about now.
Jay Leno gets behind the curtain on the design of the Toyota FT-1 concept
Mon, 07 Apr 2014Hinting at the future of Toyota performance vehicles, the FT-1 concept was one of the stars of the Detroit Auto Show this year. It even nabbed fourth place in our Editors' Choice list. While he's a few months behind the car's official reveal, Jay Leno managed to get the only existing concept of the sports coupe wheeled into his garage to take a closer look, and he's pretty impressed.
Leno speaks with Alex Shen and William Chergosky, the exterior and interior chief designers of the FT-1 respectively, to get a better idea of the inspirations behind the concept. Jay heaps high praise on it for mixing Italian and Japanese design and says he likes the look even more than the Lexus LFA. The coupe isn't a product of either country, though. It was penned at Toyota's CALTY Design Research center in Newport Beach, CA.
The designers go into the entire history of the FT-1, and Shen even admits that Toyota design lacks an emotional factor at the moment. It's a fascinating interview behind some of the little touches you might miss at first glance. Unfortunately, the model doesn't have the green light for production yet and may never get made. In any case, scroll down to watch Leno swoon over the coupe.
Fuel cells will flop outside Japan, says VW
Fri, 12 Sep 2014
"It may fly within Japan, but not globally," VW's Shoji said.
It's long been battered into our beleaguered auto writer brains that the ultimate future source of motivation for tomorrow's cars and trucks is not gasoline, diesel, electricity, natural gas, propane or solar power - it's the hydrogen fuel cell. It's been the Next Big Thing since the start of Next Big Things.
