100% ORIGINAL BODY, PAINT, INTERIOR, DRIVETRAIN A TRUE SURVIVOR
TRUELY AN EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL UNRESTORED UNMODIFIED EXAMPLE

BRIEF DETAIL OF CONDITION (please call or email with your questions or concerns):

Exterior: Overall paint and body are in superb original condition.  Original decals look perfect.  Body is 99% rustfree.
All body panels are original and accident-free.   Rear bumper shows a few flaws as does front bumper.
Interior: Also superb original condition.  The pictures should speak for themselves.  The removable rear fiberglass top has never been off the car.   The rear electric window has been acting up and working intermittently.  Carpets     look good but do show some wear.  Headliner and dash are excellent.   Driver seat has one small tear otherwise seats are excellent and original cushions feel like new.  The wife and daughter drove the 4Runner both small ladies thus the seats show little to no wear.
Mechanically: The 2.2RE drivetrain is quite sturdy and with 106K original miles is just breaking in.   The 4Runner has not been driven much over the last 5 years.   Recently (50 miles ago) I replaced the battery, changed Oil & filters and installed four new Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S 235/75-15".
The 4Runner's suspension is completely original from front to back and will need to be rebuilt over time.  I would also suggest full tune-up and all fluids flushed.   The brakes look fine and as mentioned tires are new.

IN 1984 I BOUGHT A 4RUNNER BRAND NEW AND RECENTLY SEARCHED FOR AN UNRESTORED UNMODIFIED PRISTINE EXAMPLE THAT I COULD KEEP AND UPDATE OVERTIME.   FINDING SUCH A CAR WAS A NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TASK AS I MUST HAVE LOOKED AT OVER 100 ON THE INTERNET AND 20 IN PERSON,   HOWEVER NONE MEASURED UP TO THE MEMORIES I HAD FROM 1984.   WHEN I FOUND THIS ONE I KNEW MY SEARCH WAS OVER.   I HAVE TAKEN IT THIS FAR THE NEW OWNER WILL NEED TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL.   VERY FEW 4RUNNERS CAN BE FOUND IN THIS CONDITION.  I AM SAD TO SELL IT BUT DUE TO RECENT LAND PURCHASE IN THE NAPA VALLEY I HAVE BEEN SLOWLY SELLING OFF SOME OF MY SPECIAL KEEPERS.  GOOD LUCK BIDDING.  PLEASE EMAIL WITH YOUR QUESTIONS, CONCERNS OR IF YOU ARE SERIOUS CONTACT ME FOR A POSSIBLE BUY IT NOW OPTION!

FYI This 4Runner Speedometer, being sold originally for Canadian Market, reads in Kilometer's.   The Speedo shows top speed of 180KM and presently reads 171,185KM (106,370 miles).

Thanks to smaller engines, vehicle dependability falls for first time in 16 years

Fri, Feb 14 2014

As automakers have made engines smaller and smaller to improve fuel economy, problems in those vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger. That's the synopsis of a J.D. Power vehicle-dependability study, which found that dependability dropped for the first time in 16 years, largely because the proliferation of four-cylinder engines is causing the vehicles to be less reliable. Specifically, the number of problems per 100 vehicles (or what J.D. Power calls PP100) during the past 12 months for 2011 model-year vehicles rose six percent from the year-earlier figures for 2010 model-year cars. Singling out four-cylinder vehicles revealed about a 10-percent increase in problems during the past year. This issues largely related to engine hesitation, rough transmission shifting and lack of power, signaling the inability of vehicle makers to iron out some of the problems in their smaller engines as they strove for better fuel economy. Six- and five-cylinder engines proved far more reliable. Among car brands, BMW's Mini sub-brand came out as least reliable, with 185 problems per 100 vehicles during the past year. Toyota's Lexus badge was easily the most reliable, with just 68 problems per 100 vehicles. Coming in second place was Mercedes-Benz. The overall average was 133. Check out J.D. Power's press release below. J.D. Power Reports: Increased Engine and Transmission Problems Contribute to Decline in Vehicle Dependability for The First Time in More Than 15 Years General Motors Company Receives Eight Segment Awards, While Toyota Motor Corporation Garners Seven and Honda Motor Company Earns Six WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: o Owners of 3-year-old vehicles (2011 model year) report more problems than did owners of 3-year-old vehicles last year, according to the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS) released today. The study, now in its 25th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study finds that overall vehicle dependability averages 133 PP100, a 6 percent increase in problems from 126 PP100 in 2013. This marks the first time since the 1998 study that the average number of problems has increased. "Until this year, we have seen a continual improvement in vehicle dependability," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D.

Japan could consolidate to three automakers by 2020

Thu, Feb 11 2016

Sergio Marchionne might see his dream of big mergers in the auto industry become a reality, and an analyst thinks Japan is a likely place for consolidation to happen. Takaki Nakanishi from Jefferies Group LLC tells Bloomberg the country's car market could combine to just three or fewer major players by 2020, from seven today. "To have one or two carmakers in a country is not only natural, but also helpful to their competitiveness," Nakanishi told Bloomberg. "Japan has just too many and the resources have been too spread out. It's a natural trend to consolidate and reduce some of the wasted resources." Nakanishi's argument echoes Marchionne's reasons to push for a merger between FCA and General Motors. Automakers spend billions on research and development, but their competitors also invest money to create the same solutions. Consolidating could conceivably put that R&D money into new avenues. "In today's global marketplace, it is increasingly difficult for automakers to compete in lower volume segments like sports cars, hydrogen fuel cells, or electrified vehicles on their own," Ed Kim, vice president of Industry Analysis at AutoPacific, told Autoblog. Even without mergers, these are the areas where Japanese automakers already have partners for development. Kim cited examples like Toyota and Subaru's work on the BRZ and FR-S and its collaboration with BMW on a forthcoming sports car. Honda and GM have also reportedly deepened their cooperation on green car tech. After Toyota's recent buyout of previous partner Daihatsu, Nakanishi agrees with rumors that the automotive giant could next pursue Suzuki. He sees them like a courting couple. "For Suzuki, it's like they're just starting to exchange diaries and have yet to hold hands. When Toyota's starts to hold 5 percent of Suzuki's shares, this will be like finally touching fingertips," Nakanishi told Bloomberg. "I absolutely do believe that we are not finished seeing consolidation in Japan," Kim told Autoblog. Rising development costs to meet tougher emissions regulations make it hard for minor players in the market to remain competitive. "The smaller automakers like Suzuki, Mazda, and Mitsubishi are challenged to make it on their own in the global marketplace. Consolidation for them may be inevitable." Related Video:

Toyota demos its TRD Pro Series line [w/video]

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

With a rich history of creating off-road worthy trucks and SUVs and a somewhat bland impression of its brand overall, Toyota has wisely created a line of TRD Pro Series vehicles to spice up its showrooms and newly engage customers. Debuting at this year's Chicago Auto Show before rolling into dealers this fall, the TRD-tuned vehicles include the 4Runner, Tacoma and Tundra, all with added rough-road gear and amped-up looks.
The TRD Pro Series trucks might end up, in many cases, as lifestyle accessories for outdoorsy types, but that doesn't mean they're all show. TRD springs and Bilstein dampers are set up for off-road performance, while skid plates will protect the softish underbellies of these would-be rock-crawlers. The trio all get lifted over stock height, as well, with two-inch gains for the Tundra and Tacoma (lovingly referred to as "Taco Supreme" in the Toyota press release), and an inch-and-a-half rise for the 4Runner.
We detailed all of the changes to the Pro Series vehicles in our original announcement post, and you'll also find more granularity of information in the Toyota press release below. Before you dive in, however, be sure to take in our set of live, action-packed images from the Chicago Show floor.
