Up for auction is a California Survivor!

A first generation

1989 Toyota 4Runner with oversized mud tires!

A daily driver. This vehicle is being sold to make room for a pickup truck that

will replace it for my new job.  Just driven from Los Angeles County to South Lake Tahoe.

A nice candidate for a Rock Crawler. A rare color of Toyota for this year.

The vehicle just had a brake job and a new master cylinder installed by a certified mechanic.

In addition, the vehicle just had a brand new battery installed.

We have removed chipped paint from the side, about 2 feet by 2 feet.

We sanded it to bare sheet metal and then primered it.  This work was just done.

The area is ready to be repainted.

It starts every time and is reliable.  The door locks should be replaced.  I have the

ignition key and I have been just opening with the sliding glass of the convertible

hood. Locking the doors but unlocking by sliding the window open in the back. The

gas gauge is also not accurate but the odometer is and will be slightly different as

the truck will be used a bit this week. The interior is in overall good shape and

cleaned.

Overall, this is a reliable 4x4

that would make a fun off road and winter transport

or top down in the summer kind of vehicle.

Fun and highly sought after.

Please see the numerous photos and feel free to ask questions.

Please note that this vehicle is being sold, "As is and Where is". It is well used but not abused.

Please also note that the winning bidder is responsible for payment within three days.

Winning the auction is not a "marker" to come by and inspect the vehicle after the auction ends.

If you wish to inspect, please do so before the auction is completed.

I am not responsible to pay any State of California fees.  That is the responsibility of the seller to research and pay and fees

with the DMV.It is also the responsibility of the buyer to research the emission in your state.  We can make no claims or

verify that it will clear or not clear the emission of your state.I can assist with the logistics of shipping.

I can meet a carrier in Reno for you to achieve a better shipping rate.

For a prearranged negotiated fee amicable to both parties before the auction ends, I can drive the vehicle to

Sacramento or the San Francisco area or ?  Just please help by getting your plan preapproved

so that we are on the very same page.  I am in Los Angeles a lot and I am in San Jose a lot.

Full payment must be received prior to my drive to the preapproved destination.

I am describing and listing this auto to the best of my ability.  Please see my other auctions and thank your for looking!

Former NHTSA chief may lead automaker-backed Takata investigation

Fri, Feb 6 2015

An automaker-led effort may see the former head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration take on the probe into the Takata airbag inflator disaster. A coalition of at least ten automakers is in talks with former NHTSA administrator David Kelly, with unnamed sources familiar with the discussions telling The Wall Street Journal he is "among those we are considering to coordinate" the investigation. The Detroit News, meanwhile, is reporting he could be hired "in the coming days." Takata, the Japanese seatbelt and airbag manufacturer, has been the center of a defect scandal since last year. Takata is under fire for air bag inflators that can explode, shooting out metal and plastic pieces. At least five deaths and dozens of injuries have been linked to the problem worldwide. Earlier this year, Honda Motor Co., the automaker with the biggest exposure to the defective Takata air bags, was fined $70 million in the U.S. for not reporting to regulators some 1,729 complaints that its vehicles caused deaths and injuries, and for not reporting warranty claims. It was the largest civil penalty levied against an automaker. Should he take the role, Kelly would be at the fore of an investigation being assembled by an alliance of ten automakers, which includes the Detroit Three and Honda. Toyota first suggested a joint investigation back in December, The Journal reports. Kelly's goals, meanwhile, will be many. The Detroit News reports that questions abound regarding not only the recalled airbag inflators and the conditions that cause them to fail, but the whether the replacement units will have similar problems in the future. The automaker committee is far from the only one analyzing the airbag issue. Takata has assembled its own panel, led by former Secretary of Transportation Samuel Skinner, while NHTSA's deputy administrator, David Friedman, has brought in an outside engineering firm to investigate the inflators, The Detroit News reports. Separately, on Friday Takata Corp., the Japanese seatbelt and air-bag maker at the center of a defect scandal, is expecting more red ink for the fiscal year through March. It is projecting a 31 billion yen ($264 million) loss, worse than the previous forecast for a 25 billion yen ($214 million) loss, despite higher sales expected for the fiscal year. Ten automakers have recalled about 12 million vehicles in the U.S. and about 19 million globally for problems with the air bags.

Toyota builds its 500,000th Corolla in Mississippi

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Toyota assembles the Corolla at plants around the world: from Brazil and South Africa to Turkey, Pakistan, China, Taiwan and Thailand. But the one we get here is built in Mississippi, and that location has just finished its 500,000th Corolla. The plant in Blue Springs, MS, is just one of a half-dozen assembly plants Toyota operates in the United States, but reached the half-million mark faster than any of the others. It began production late in 2011 and took over Corolla assembly from the NUMMI plant in California previously operated via joint venture with General Motors and now occupied by Tesla. Last year, the 2,000 workers at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi built 180,000 Corollas, contributing to the 10 million units of the model Toyota has sold in America since it was introduced here in 1968 and the 21 million vehicles Toyota has made in America over the years. 500,000th Corolla Speeds Off the Line at Toyota Mississippi Blue Springs plant celebrates milestone achieved at record pace BLUE SPRINGS, MISS. (Feb. 12, 2015) – Toyota Mississippi is celebrating the 500,000th Corolla coming off the line at the Blue Springs, Miss., production facility. The production accomplishment was achieved faster than any other Toyota plant in the U.S. – a testament to the 2,000 hardworking team members who have answered increasing consumer demand since the plant opened in 2011. "The 500,000th Corolla vehicle is a milestone we're excited to be celebrating," said Fred Volf, Toyota Mississippi, vice president of manufacturing. "We are proud to produce the Corolla, and it wouldn't have been accomplished without the 2,000 dedicated team members who support this operation." The milestone is one more to add to the long list of achievements for Toyota Mississippi and the Corolla. Toyota has sold more than 10 million Corollas in the U.S. and 40 million worldwide since the vehicle debuted here in 1968. The success of Corolla contributes to Toyota's accomplished domestic manufacturing footprint and represents Toyota's commitment to producing vehicles where they are sold. Since 1986, more than 21 million Toyota vehicles have rolled off the line in the U.S. and including dealers and suppliers, Toyota has generated 365,000 U.S. jobs. Toyota's local presence is felt by those in Northeast Mississippi through substantial economic investment, employment, philanthropic efforts and environmental responsibility.

General Motors became second-largest US advertiser in 2013

Fri, 28 Mar 2014

General Motors might be mired in several recalls, as well as the ongoing investigations from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Congress into the automaker's response to those recalls. However, the company can celebrate taking the title of the US' second-largest advertiser in 2013. According to Ad Week examining a recently released study, total advertising spending in the US posted its fourth consecutive year of rising expenditures with 0.9-percent growth to $140.2 billion. Of that, the auto industry spent $15.2 billion to promote its goods in 2013, up 3.8 percent.
The country's biggest advertiser was Procter and Gamble, which dropped $3.17 billion in 2013, an increase of 11.8 percent. GM became the nation's second largest promoter with $1.794 billion in spending, up 10 percent. The biggest proportion of that money went to sell Cadillac and GMC. AT&T barely lost out with $1.793 billion in advertising, 15.2 percent growth. The 10 businesses with the highest ad investments spent a cumulative $15.9 billion during the year, 6.6 percent higher than 2012. Toyota came in eighth place making it the only other automaker to rank in the top 10.
The study also indicates that there is a shift in advertising spending from television and print to the Internet. There was 15.7 percent more money outlaid to promote products online in 2013 than the previous year. In comparison, television dropped 0.1 percent, newspapers were down 3.7 percent and radio fell 5.6 percent.
