1999 Toyota 4runner Base Sport Utility 4-door 2.7l on 2040-cars
Brooklyn, New York, United States
THIS CAR MECHANICALLY IS IN GREAT CONDITION. NEW FRONT BRAKES, NEW BELTS, NEW REAR SHOCKS, TRANS FLUID JUST CHANGED 5K MILES AGO, NEW SPARK PLUGS, NEW 4 TIRES, FUEL SENSOR INSIDE GAS TANK IS ALSO JUST REPLACED. MUFFLER JUST REPLACED AS WELL. THE 4WD WORKS GREAT! GOT ME OUT OF SOME TOUGH SPOTS DURING THE SNOW STORMS. CONS: THE CAR IS A BIT SCRATCHED UP, ALL THE SCRATCHES ARE IN THE PICS, THERE ARE 2 DENTS ON THE REAR BUMPER. THE DRIVER SIDE MIRROR SHELL IS CRACKED BUT MIRROR IS STILL INTACT. THE GAS GUAGE DOES NOT FUNCTION, I GOT A MECHANIC TO PUT IN A REPLACEMENT GUAGE AND IT SHOWS HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT IF I WANTED THE GAS GUAGE TO BE FIXED I WOULD HAVE TO GET A NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND IT WOULD WORK PROPERLY SINCE THE SENSOR WAS JUST REPLACED. THIS CAR IS MECHANICALLY SAFE AND IN GREAT DRIVING CONDITION. |

Toyota to buck engine downsizing trend, may go larger and turbo-free
Mon, 14 Oct 2013Turbocharging isn't really Toyota's specialty, and the Japanese automaker isn't being shy about acknowledging it. Koei Saga, a senior managing officer in charge of drivetrain research and development, says that eschewing turbos and increasing displacement of engines using the Atkinson cycle can produce better power gains without sacrificing fuel economy, Automotive News reports.
Toyota is investing heavily in larger-displacement Atkinson-cycle engines in addition to turbocharged engines, but Saga doesn't think the automaker will use turbocharging across many product lines. He apparently remains unconvinced that the technology "makes the world better."
In Toyota's eyes then, Atkinson cycle engines do make the world better, and here's how. Their pistons complete four processes - intake, compression, power and exhaust - in one revolution of the crankshaft, and the power stroke is longer than the compression stroke. Traditional Otto cycle engines require two crankshaft revolutions to accomplish those same four operations and have equal-length compression and power strokes. Atkinson cycle engines are more efficient, but less power dense, though increasing displacement can offset that shortfall.
Volvo S90 Recharge, Lexus RX 350 and spring beer picks | Autoblog Podcast #679
Fri, May 21 2021In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski. They start off discussing the Volvo S90 Recharge and wonder out loud why the brand's plug-in technology isn't also offered with a wagon body style. They then discuss the Lexus RX350 and why it's likely an ideal premium crossover for a large percentage of buyers. From there, Greg and Jeremy cover some recent news items, including the current state of BMW's coupes and rumors that Toyota's next Land Cruiser will lose its V8 engine in favor of a turbocharged V6. Then it's time to go over some of our current favorite spring beers before turning to the mailbag and spending some listener's money. Toyota C-HR Concept is a high-riding hybrid hatch [w/video]
Thu, 02 Oct 2014Despite having the tendency to offer decidedly bland production cars, Toyota occasionally surprises us with interesting concept cars. Such is the case with the C-HR concept making its debut at the Paris Motor Show this week. It's a concept showing forward-thinking design that hints at "a type of crossover vehicle Toyota would like to bring to market," according to the automaker's release, and it rides on an all-new platform and uses a hybrid powertrain.
About that powertrain: Toyota isn't revealing anything, just saying that it will - brace yourselves - "deliver significantly improved fuel efficiency" (over what, exactly?) The car also uses a brand-new architecture, though it hasn't really revealed any major details about that aspect, either.
It's a high-riding, muscular thing, with a rakish hatchback shape. Should it reach production, Toyota says it would take the shape of a C-segment crossover. It'd be cool to see something like this hit the road someday, but for now, we won't hold our breath.
