First off, let me say that this truck is for sale because my oldest daughter just received a new car from her grandparents as a present for her upcoming high school graduation.  So, with that being said, I had previously prepared this truck mechanically over the past few years to endure 4 years of college, for safe and reliable transportation.  Now, that she has been given a new car,  I'm stuck with a truck that I have sunk a lot of money into.  Regardless, this will be somebody's gain and my loss whoever wins this bid.  I purchased this vehicle in Dallas two years ago for a total of $3,600 and over the past few years have spent just shy of $11k in it.  I have all of the receipts to prove it from Firestone Auto Care.  This truck is mechanically flawless, and has been a smoke free vehicle.  Here are a few of the major items that I had replaced or fixed;  New radiator, alternator, battery, fuel injectors, tires, Lifetime alignment, drive-shaft, U joints, resealed tranny, cooling system refreshed, windshield, ignition cylinder lock, electrical system, wires, distributor, etc all replaced, lifetime brake pads, etc., etc.

Now, the interior is in very good shape for being 18 years old.  The blue cloth fabric is a little faded from the Texas sun, and the driver side is a little worn but not ripped or anything like that.  The dash has no cracks and is in good shape.  I had a new Kenwood stereo installed, that has a CD/USB and 2.5 iPod ready inputs.

Overall, the blue exterior paint is in good shape.  (It has some scratches, and dings throughout exterior of the truck, but nothing major.  There are a couple of spots where the clear coat is coming off by the windshield wiper panel on the hood.  It used to have a rear spoiler on top, which was removed and has a few places where the black glue or tape was used to attach it.  That should come off with a cleaner/remover.  The white trim lines on the paint are faded and worn.  There is one nickel size spot on the hood that is chipped.  The interior has a stain on the carpet in the rear cargo area.  It kind of looks like a rust stain?  It was there when I purchased the truck.   The antennae mast is broken, but I have the OEM replacement for it.  All you have do is install it.  The motor for the antennae mast works fine.  The front driver side plastic corner runner piece is loose, but still attached.  Other than that, the exterior is in pretty good shape.)    Everything works on this vehicle, sunroof, rear window button and key on rear door, locks, windows, A/C, etc, etc.  I have all documents, manuals, and receipts for this vehicle.  It has a clear TX title.  I have run full synthetic oil in it since I purchased it two years ago.

This was the deal I was looking for a few years ago for my daughter.  If you're looking for a vehicle for your son/daughter or maybe yourself to go to school or work for safe and reliable transportation, this is the truck.  This truck doesn't get good gas mileage, so if you're looking for good gas mileage stay clear of this vehicle.  But, if you're looking for something that's not going to break your wallet, and will be a safe and reliable vehicle to drive, bid on this 4Runner.  More pictures are available upon request.

Truck is sold AS-IS, with no warranty other than what is listed on my receipts from Firestone.  I have listed this to the best of my ability with faults of vehicle and accurate descriptions of work completed.  U.S. Certified Cashiers Check, Cash in person or PayPal accepted. $500 down within 48 hours of winning bid and full balance due within five business days of purchase.  Buyer assumes all responsibility for delivery/transport/pickup of vehicle and TTL.  Best of Luck!!!

Sports 800 is a progenitor of Toyota performance

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

There's an automotive axiom that claims it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow. If that's the case, then pushing a Toyota Sports 800 around must be one of the most exhilarating experiences behind the wheel in the world. With just 800cc of displacement from a two-cylinder boxer engine, the focus is on finesse over outright speed. Still, it's a fantastic page in Toyota's performance history, and Petrolicious takes a ride with a man who owns a meticulously restored 1967 example in its latest video.
The Sports 800 used the classic cost-saving strategy in the auto industry of taking parts from a standard model in the lineup and modifying it into a sports car. In this case that meant borrowing the engine from the plebian Toyota Publica, beefing it up for more power and clothing the whole thing a in beautifully shaped, wind-tunnel-honed body.
The look of these lithe, targa roadsters is the exact opposite of the rather dull styling sometimes associated with Toyota today. Everywhere you look there are louvers, vents or curves to draw the eye. Check out the latest Petrolicious video for a detailed look at the history of this rare model that's largely unknown on this side of the Pacific.

TMG's super Lexus LS Sports 650 gets track tested

Thu, 05 Sep 2013

The people at Toyota Motorsport GmbH have been responsible for the Japanese automaker's motorsports efforts since the 1970s, but since Toyota pulled out of Formula One after the 2009 season, the tuning shop has been developing a super sedan based on the Lexus LS called the Sports 650. Details on TMG's first road car have been scarce, but XCAR was recently invited to drive the 641-horsepower Lexus on track.
Here's what we know: the Sports 650 has enough power to sprint to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, tops out at 199 mph, weighs over two tons and utilizes LFA brakes. Oh, and its twin-turbo V8 bellows like an AMG V8. That last part isn't surprising when considering TMG could become Toyota's in-house tuning arm - like AMG is to Mercedes-Benz. As for the bespoke body kit, fender flares and stacked exhaust pipes? They fit the car well and even remind us a bit of Lexus' other high-performance sedan, the IS F. Currently there are no plans for the Sports 650 to be made into a production car, but we doubt TMG is devoting this much effort developing the LS into a road-rocket for nothing.
Check out XCAR's video below to see the AMG-fighter wrung out on track, and then ponder what could be if TMG were let loose to fiddle with other cars in Lexus' lineup. Now that's something we could get used to!

Toyota wants you to meet an 'obsessed' hydrogen fuel cell engineer

Thu, May 8 2014

Like a television-broadcasting company covering the Olympics, Toyota is looking to market its future in hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle production by taking the personal approach. In this case, the Japanese automaker is telling the backstory of Jackie Birdsall, an engineer at Toyota Technical Center who Toyota says is "obsessed" with fuel-cell technology. A Sacramento native, Birdsall is responsible for testing fuel-cell vehicles and making sure hydrogen stations fill the tanks of the cars in a "reasonable" timeframe. Long a gearhead, she attended Flint, MI's Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) and, among other places, worked for the California Fuel Cell Partnership before joining Toyota in 2012. Her first car was an '87 Camry. That's one personal side of Toyota's hydrogen push, and shows another way Toyota is introducing the world to this new powertrain (see also: winter performance). The nitty-gritty is made up of things like working with FirstElement Fuel Inc. on a hydrogen-refueling network in California. As for its fuel-cell sedan, which was displayed in FCV prototype form at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January and is due next year, Toyota said it expects the car to have a full-tank range of about 300 miles and a five-minute refueling time. That's if Ms. Birdsall has anything to say about it. Check out Toyota's press release about Birdsall below. Talkin' 'Bout a Revolution A healthy obsession leads Jackie Birdsall and TTC to the forefront of history The word she keeps using is "obsessed." Jackie Birdsall became "obsessed" with cars when she was a teenager. That made her "obsessed" with the history of auto icons like Henry Ford and Lee Iacocca. In 2003, she did an internship with Daimler-Chrysler, leading to an "obsession" with hydrogen fuel cell technology. And now, as an engineer at Toyota Technical Center, Birdsall is "obsessed" with bringing fuel cell technology to the masses. But perhaps you need to be obsessed when you're trying to change the world. After all, revolutions don't blossom from complacency. Leading an alternative fuel revolution is just what Birdsall and her partners on the Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle team are doing. Collectively, they're finding tangible ways to reduce fossil fuels in the automobile world and figuring out how hydrogen fuel cells can be useful and affordable. In 2015, that obsession will bear fruit when Toyota's FCV hits the markets in California, Japan and Europe.
