I am posting this vehicle for my son. He is selling it because he cannot afford the two repairs that it needs. This truck is completely stock, never offroaded, is super clean, one owner before him was a woman who kept it in the garage and took excellent care of it, as has my son. The body is completely straight, a few little nicks and paint dings, no rust, fully loaded with sun roof, tow package etc. Everything on this vehicle works except the clock :-( The two repairs that he cannot afford is a broken rear side window, you can see the plastic over it in the pics. Found a replacement window at our local junk yard for $350. the other repair is a leaking head gasket. It leaks coolant from the left side head gasket when the truck gets warm. It is a slow leak that has just started, our local shop checked it out and their opinion is to replace both head gaskets which is $1600. crazy eh! It is drivable but will not do well long distances unless you keep adding coolant. I have tried to stay out of it and am not going to bail him out on this one. But I do have an eBay account and offered to list it on here, he just listed it on Craigslist here in Bellingham. Starting it off at 99 cents with a low reserve. Great opportunity if you are a home mechanic or have a shop! Repaired this truck should sell for over $5000.00 Thanks for listening!

Is 120 miles just about perfect for EV range?
Tue, Apr 15 2014When it comes to battery-electric vehicles, our friend Brad Berman over at Plug In Cars says 40 miles makes all the difference in the world. That's the approximate difference in single-charge range between the battery-electric version of the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Leaf. It's also the difference between the appearance or disappearance of range anxiety. The 50-percent battery increase has zapped any lingering range anxiety, Berman writes. The RAV4 EV possesses a 40-kilowatt-hour pack, compared to the 24-kWh pack in the Leaf. After factoring in differences in size, weight and other issues, that means the compact SUV gets about 120 miles on a single charge in realistic driving conditions, compared to about 80 miles in the Leaf. "The 50 percent increase in battery size from Leaf to RAV has zapped any lingering range anxiety," Berman writes. His observations further feed the notion that drivers need substantial backup juice in order to feel comfortable driving EVs. Late last year, the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), along with the Consumers Union estimated that about 42 percent of US households could drive plug-in vehicles with "little or no change" in their driving habits, and that almost 70 percent of US commuters drive fewer than 60 miles per weekday. That would imply that a substantial swath of the country should be comfortable using a car like the Leaf as their daily driver - with first-quarter Leaf sales jumping 46 percent from a year before, more Americans certainly are. Still, the implication here is that EV sales will continue to be on the margins until an automaker steps up battery capabilities to 120 or so miles while keeping the price in the $30,000 range. Think that's a reasonable goal to shoot for?

Toyota launches new Passo hatchback in Japan [w/video]
Fri, 18 Apr 2014With considerable manufacturing capacity here in the United States and even a NASCAR program, it'd be all too easy to categorize Toyota as an American automaker. Only it's not. It's Japanese, of course. And back in the Japanese Domestic Market, it offers a whole range of models we'll never see in North America. Models like the Crown sedan, Noah minivan and this, the new Passo hatchback.
Sold in various markets as the Daihatsu Boon, Daihatsu Sirion, Perodua Myvi and (for a time) the Subaru Justy, the Toyota Passo is a compact hatchback that slots in size-wise between the Yaris sold in America and the Aygo offered in Europe (except the Passo is taller than either).
Power comes from a 1.0-liter engine with 69 horsepower that can be had in front- or all-wheel drive, or a 1.3 driving 95 horses to the front wheels alone. A continuously variable transmission is on duty regardless of engine choice. Front-drive models get a stop/start system, but even all-wheel-drive versions are eligible for government tax credits. That's because, though the new Passo only appears to be mildly updated, the engines have been thoroughly reworked to deliver 30-percent better fuel economy than the previous model, coming in 20-percent better than the standards being enacted by the Japanese government for next year.
