1989 Toyota 4-runner First Generation Low Milage (silver W/black Top) on 2040-cars
Denver, Colorado, United States
Rare, low milage (124,XXX), original everything, 1989 first
generation 4 Runner. V6 SR5 EFI. Silver w/Black roof. (Top has never been taken off). Right now there are
no other 1989 first generations being offered on Craigslist OR Ebay! There are just a couple first generations of
any year, a couple in original form. And when they do come up, they will not be
nearly as nice as this one, or have the amount of recent maintenance. We had it shipped to us knowing of a valve cover leak, which made the undercarriage quite messy looking at first. The seal has been replaced, along with two cam cap seals, where the leak was really coming from. Because we wanted this as our daily driver, we did all of the necessary maintenance the former owner didn’t get to. Water pump replaced, new power steering pump installed, rear brakes done, new front locking hubs installed, shifter grommet replaced, radiator flushed, oil changed and tune up with new plugs, transmission fluid drained and filled, transmission serviced, and new air filter. Tires still have lots of tread on them. It is original, but not perfect. It is in the type of shape a vehicle made in 1989 should be in: paint has faded a bit on top, a bit on the hood, etc. The dash, like every single one of these, has a couple of cracks, but not nearly as bad as I’ve seen. Other than that, it is in really good shape. The story … of
how it came to us and why we must part with it: We bought this less than a year ago from the original owner,
who kept it south of the bay area in California. It had a out lived its use for him as a
family car “to go to the store in.” We
bought it for my wife’s dream of “a first generation 4-Runner sailing through
the breeze with the top off.” She has a
new dream of camping without needing a tent, and we just bought a 2003 Eurovan,
much more practical for us and our three year-old (and our new 90lb. dog!). Happy bidding! |

Toyota creates GT86 concept inspired by Initial D
Wed, Jun 29 2016Everyone has a favorite movie or TV car of their youths. The love of these cars can ignite a lifelong passion for automobiles. Some lust for the sharp, stainless steel DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future or the decked-out Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger. For anime and manga fans, it's the panda-colored Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno from the Initial D manga and anime series. Toyota, recognizing the significance of the that car, meticulously reimagined it for a modern audience, basing it on the UK market GT86. The GT86, sold in the United States as the Scion FR-S and soon to be rebadged as the Toyota 86, is considered by some to be the spiritual successor to the rear-wheel-drive AE86 Corolla from the 1980s. Both are reasonably affordable, lightweight cars with a propensity for oversteer. The original AE86 from Initial D was a highly modified but realistic drift machine. The amazing feats of that tofu delivery car as it raced everything from Mazda RX-7s to a Honda S2000 turned the little Toyota into a cult icon. That AE86 itself was inspired by the personal vehicle of Japanese racing driver Keiichi Tsuchiya. Tsuchiya served as both an inspiration and supervisor for Initial D. Many of the modifications on the Initial D car, like the TRD carbon-fiber hood and Fujitsubo exhaust, car were exactly the same as Tsuchiya's real-life vehicle. Toyota is no stranger to crafting modern incarnations of classic vehicles. Last year the company created a Back to the Future Tacoma. Toyota's Initial D concept car uses the same parts wherever possible. Like the original, it has a carbon-fiber hood, Fujitsubo exhaust, and black Watanabe F8 wheels. The suspension, lights, and body have all been modified. Even small details like the engine cover and door handles were modified to recall the fictional car. The end result is a fantastic creation that pays great homage to the original. Toyota went as far as hiring UK manga artist Sonia Leong to design a series of backdrops that place the car in the same action shots as the original series. While this one-off vehicle is just a concept, most of the parts are available to purchase for fans who may be inspired to create their own version. Toyota's concept will be on display at various motoring shows across the UK this summer. Related video: Featured Gallery Toyota Initial D GT86 TV/Movies Scion Toyota Coupe toyota gt86 toyota 86
Toyota makes $100M investment to boost Indiana Highlander production
Mon, 25 Aug 2014Toyota has announced that it will be making a $100 million investment in its Princeton, IN factory in a bid to increase production of its popular Highlander CUV. The move will create 300 new jobs by 2016 and increase the total number of crossovers the plant can produce by 30,000.
Toyota currently builds the Highlander, alongside the fullsize Sequoia, at Toyota Indiana's West Plant. The additional capacity, though, will be sent to the East Plant, which is currently responsible for production of the recently refreshed Sienna minivan.
"The Highlander has been a great product for our plant," Toyota Indiana President Norm Bafunno said in a statement. "Establishing Highlander as the 'bridge vehicle,' as we call it, between the East and West plants increases our ability to meet customer needs for our outstanding products. This exciting news is a true testament to the capability of our hard-working and dedicated team members."
Lexus, Mazda win KBB 5-Year Cost To Own Awards
Wed, 05 Feb 2014We focus a lot on what new cars are like to drive, but it's difficult on a one-week loan to really get a sense of what a car is like to live with. Sure, we try to recreate that sense with our long-term vehicles, but even after a year, it's impossible to know fully learn about a car, particularly in terms of reliability and cost of repairs. For 2014 model year vehicles, Kelley Blue Book has put together a list of the most affordable vehicles over a five-year period.
At the tippy top of the list are Mazda and Lexus, with the Zoom-Zoom automaker winning the award for best non-luxury brand. Lexus, meanwhile, was the most affordable luxury marque over a five-year period. It's interesting to note, though, that not a single Mazda won its segment in this year's awards.
General Motors did quite well, taking eight segments, including both the subcompact and plug-in segments, with the gas-powered Chevrolet Spark and Spark EV. The Chevy Camaro SS and ZL1 took the high-performance car award. Toyota was well represented, with five winners split between the main brand (Corolla, Prius C and Tacoma) and Lexus (LS and RX).
