1988 Toyota 4runner.

Body-
These trucks are all but gone on the northeast coast as most rusted badly. This truck is literally rust free except for the 2 small spots at a seam show in pictures and video. Underside had factory under caot, and car must have originated from elsewhere. floors are perfect, inner and out rockers, wheel houses, etc etc.
The sides are strait and dig free, except ding on pass door, shown in video. Tail gate is perfect. Hood has a ding, and a dent. the lower edges or doors in and out are clean, no rust thru, no swelled up seams.
Manual window, sliders rear side windows, and rear tailgate electric window goes up and down fine.
The left side rear glass window has cracked, I used black gorilla tape on inside and outside neatly and it is fine to use as is forever, or if you get a replacement glass, they bolt in, so it does not require a glassman, just unbolt old, and bold in new. Nuts are on interior side.
Its had flares added so the tires dont stick out past body (ticket here in Maryland if they do) Flares are body color.
The roof is removable on these trucks, and it had the factory roll bar over rear seat in place.

Paint-
The color is the ford Mystic that was used on early 90's cobras and suck, it flips between blue and green, nice looking. Paint is in great shape. The front left flare is not a perfect match however, but not noticeable. Decent clear coat paintjob in urethane, plenty of years left.

Engine-
when I got truck it had been driven about daily and from Md to Florida many times. Owner suspected a headgasket issue and parked it. I got it and did head gasket, and since Id planned on keeping truck forever, I went ahead and replace radiator with a heavy duty new one, replaced waterpump, and brake master cylinder...all the items that looked beat. It had the cursed surging idle that plgues these 22re motors, I corrected that and it idles rock steady, starts right up, has good power and will get down the highway. I would not hesitate a second to drive it anywhere.
Exhaust, I removed bad muffler and converter and installed a stainless and aluminum DandD muffler. has a throty sound, but mellow and normal, not loud.

Wheels n Tires-
10x15" aluminum wheels with BFG all terrains in 32x11.5". Tires probably have 3000 miles of so one them, like new still.

Drivability-
peppy little motor, gets down the road, fun to drive. Steers well, go strait as an arrow, has power brakes and stops well. Over all excellent driving truck, and fun.

Interior-
Tan, front and rear seat decent shape, no tears or bad spots. could stand a shampoo, but looks fine. I removed the useless tiny center console, as I wanted a cup holder and more storage. used a aluminum 1940"s survey box and parts to make cup holder and armrest/console box. adds more storage and some character. tidied up the shifter boot area, added a 3 ports charger port so you can charge phone, run gps, etc at one time.
Radio, has none. I can install a radio cd player if buyer desires. I think in car, so I never bothered.
Rear seat flip and fold making large flat rear cargo area. I have nice grey foam matt thatll go with it for when seats are down.
Install new bright useful dome light.
Install a circle track steering wheel Ive had forever and love. Its all aluminum. I do have stock steering wheel as well and am happy to re install if buyer prefers. Speedo and all gauges work.

Drivetrain-
5 speed trans, has had a new clutch at some point, shifts flawlessly. Hubs, and 4WD shifting all works perfectly as well. Manuel hubs, no bs ones to break.

Selling--
I really love this truck to death, and it hurts to sell, as I know Ill never be able to find another near home not rusted out, but finances and house dictate It must be sold. I went thru it well as Id planned on it being a keeper. Its problem free.

To view a driving video so you can see it thru the gears and its not a slug and sounds good. And a walk around video, please visit youtube and search my user name, Jeffbozi84 . look for the two 4runner videos. I tried to embed them in description, but ebay wasnt letting it happen.

Is 120 miles just about perfect for EV range?

Tue, Apr 15 2014

When it comes to battery-electric vehicles, our friend Brad Berman over at Plug In Cars says 40 miles makes all the difference in the world. That's the approximate difference in single-charge range between the battery-electric version of the Toyota RAV4 and the Nissan Leaf. It's also the difference between the appearance or disappearance of range anxiety. The 50-percent battery increase has zapped any lingering range anxiety, Berman writes. The RAV4 EV possesses a 40-kilowatt-hour pack, compared to the 24-kWh pack in the Leaf. After factoring in differences in size, weight and other issues, that means the compact SUV gets about 120 miles on a single charge in realistic driving conditions, compared to about 80 miles in the Leaf. "The 50 percent increase in battery size from Leaf to RAV has zapped any lingering range anxiety," Berman writes. His observations further feed the notion that drivers need substantial backup juice in order to feel comfortable driving EVs. Late last year, the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), along with the Consumers Union estimated that about 42 percent of US households could drive plug-in vehicles with "little or no change" in their driving habits, and that almost 70 percent of US commuters drive fewer than 60 miles per weekday. That would imply that a substantial swath of the country should be comfortable using a car like the Leaf as their daily driver - with first-quarter Leaf sales jumping 46 percent from a year before, more Americans certainly are. Still, the implication here is that EV sales will continue to be on the margins until an automaker steps up battery capabilities to 120 or so miles while keeping the price in the $30,000 range. Think that's a reasonable goal to shoot for?

Automakers paying Chinese dealers for lower-than-expected sales

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The Chinese dealers vs. foreign manufacturers story won't quit. It began with a story on the struggles faced by FAW-Toyota joint venture dealers, with supposedly 95 percent of the showrooms losing money, and 10 percent of them doing so poorly that they'd have to exit the business. The problem is mandated sales targets, most set when the country's economy was racing. Now that things have slowed, China's dealers are swimming in unsold cars and the costs to keep them. In the case of FAW-Toyota, dealers asked Toyota to hand over 2.2 billion yuan ($355 million) to help address the situation. That was followed by a report noting the issues that Honda, BMW, and Nissan dealers are having with the same issue, revealing that the Chinese Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) had taken the highly unusual step of writing to the Chinese government to complain. Now Reuters reports that CADA is not only pressing its case even harder, it's being open about it: it announced that BMW agreed to pay dealers 5.1 billion yuan ($820 million) to alleviate poor profits last year. Unnamed sources said Audi has thrown 2 billion yuan into the kitty for subsidies, and Daimler has contributed "about 1 billion yuan" to its dealers. The battle isn't just about 2014, but how business will be run in 2015 as well: Chinese Porsche dealers have requested the automaker lower its 2015 target of 64,000 cars, which would be a 40-percent increase on its 2014 sales of 46,931 vehicles. One analyst called it "shocking" that the CADA has taken its fight public, while CADA comments continue to imply that dealers have been railroaded to the cliff's edge without recourse. "Due to the difference in status," it's deputy secretary said, "individual dealers are not willing to, or don't dare to, talk frankly with the carmakers...." Both parties need one another, so they'll figure out a way to make it work – but that could mean acknowledging the Chinese market is behaving more like a mature one, not an emerging one. 2017 Toyota 86: The car so nice it's been rebadged twice

Wed, Feb 3 2016

When the dust settles and the Scion brand is no more, the car we currently know as the Scion FR-S will be rebadged. Again. If you remember the excitement that surrounded the Toyobaru/Subota rear-drive sports coupes' introduction, you'll recall that Scion's Subaru BRZ twin landed in here as the FR-S. That car, along with the new iA and iM, will get a stay of execution next year when the brand bids adieu. We know it will wear a Toyota badge in dealers from then on, and there's a good chance it will get the 86 badge European models wear. Toyota's version of the car goes by several different names depending on the market. It's only a Scion in North America, while it's sold as the Toyota 86 (in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and South Africa), Toyota GT86 (in Europe and New Zealand again), and Toyota FT86 (in Nicaragua and Jamaica). The 86 part of the name is a nod to the rear-drive AE86 Corollas of the 1980s. That's a history lesson Toyota likely won't have to teach its core demographic. Then again, this car's core demographic probably already bought one. There's also a possibility that this car will get yet another name combination: Toyota FR-S. For the sake of simplicity, let's hope not. View 7 Photos So yes, the rebadged 86 will be re-rebadged back to a Toyota. Functionally this means almost nothing. Buyers who were ordering badge-swap kits from overseas will save some money. Some enthusiast forums might need to change their names. And people visiting from Japan or Europe will feel a little more at home when they see a rear-drive Toyota sports car on the street. Meanwhile, FR-S – a name that may or may not have stood for "front-engine, rear-drive, sport" – will be quickly forgotten. Related Video: Scion Toyota confirmed toyota 86
