I have a very original 1987 Toyota 4runner for sale. I would go as far to say, it's likely one of the cleanest, original condition 1st generation 4runners in the country. I purchased it from the original owners a few months ago, but decided it's too small for my needs. The original owners took amazing care of this vehicle. They lived in the country outside of Portland, and would use the truck to drive into town once or twice a week (resulting in the low mileage). I even have a log book with ever time they put gas in the vehicle! I would imagine it was rarely (if ever) taken off road. People often ask me how much I spent to restore this truck, but it's all original. I will let the photos speak for themselves. 4x4 works great, and the 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly. Fuel injected. Power rear window works great. Original radio and speakers work well. Original brown metallic paint shines like new. It has always been an Oregon truck (no salt on the roads during the rare snow storms and dry summers). Drives smoothly and cruises at 70-75 mph without hesitation. Best of all, it gets approx 22 mpg! I wouldn't hesitate to take this truck on long road trip tomorrow. Low reserve. The truck is located in NE Portland, close to the Portland airport. No warranties implied. As is sale. Drop me a line if you have any questions!

Toyota recalling 615k Sienna models over rollaway risk

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

Toyota has announced a recall affecting approximately 615,000 Sienna minivans due to a possible rollaway risk. All of the vehicles in question are from the 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009 model years.
In an official statement, the automaker states that the problem stems from the vehicle's shift lever assembly. "Because of the potential for damage to the shift lock solenoid installed in involved vehicles, there is a possibility that the shift lever could be moved out of the 'P' position without the driver depressing the brake pedal," Toyota said. Because of this fault, the affected Sienna models could roll away without warning, increasing the risk for a crash.
Owners will be notified via first class mail, and the affected Sienna models can be taken to Toyota dealerships to have the shift lock solenoid replaced with a new one. Have a look below for the automaker's official release.

DoJ fines Japanese parts firms $740M in massive automotive price-fixing scandal

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

Nine Japanese suppliers have pleaded guilty in US court over charges of price fixing in the automotive parts industry, resulting in the Department of Justice doling out a total of $740 million of fines, according to a report from Bloomberg. The scandal, which has resulted in General Motors, Ford, Toyota and Chrysler spending up to $5 billion on inflated parts and driving up prices on 25 million vehicles has sent the DoJ hustling into investigations. "The conduct this investigation uncovered involved more than a dozen separate conspiracies aimed at the U.S. economy," Attorney General Eric Holder (pictured above) said during yesterday's press conference.
As the investigation stands, the DoJ has issued $1.6 billion in fines against 20 companies and 21 individual executives, with 17 of the execs headed to prison. Deputy Assistant Attorney General Scott Hammond said, "The breadth of the conspiracies brought to light today are as egregious as they are pervasive. They involve more than a dozen separate conspiracies operating independently but all sharing in common that they targeted US automotive manufacturers."
Big-name suppliers indicted in the investigation include Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Hitachi Automotive and Mitsuba Corporation. A list of fines and other corporations named in the investigation is available at Bloomberg.
