Recharge Wrap-up: Ohio State wins EcoCar 3 Year One, Renault video praises environmental benefits of EVs

A new video from Renault touts the benefits of electric vehicles. The video covers how EVs can help improve the air we breathe and mitigate climate change. It looks into the future at how the air of various metropolitan areas would improve with the adoption of electric cars. It focuses on how EVs help reduce not just CO2 emissions that put the climate in jeopardy, but gases and particulate matter that directly affect the human health. A study in Rome shows that if 10 to 20 percent of the vehicles were electric, particulate pollutants that cause respiratory and heart diseases would decrease by 30 percent, with nitrogen dioxide decreasing 45 percent. Ohio State University has won Year One of EcoCar 3. Winning the Year One trophy in the competition to create eco-friendly technology and incorporate it into a Chevrolet Camaro, the team defends its title from EcoCar 2 and wins $10,000 in prize money. "This year really lays the foundation vehicle development, which is critical step in the process for future success," says Ohio State University Engineering Manager M.J. Yatsko. "We have already begun vehicle dynamic analysis for next year and are excited to share some of our innovative features we plan to integrate into our vehicle." Advanced Microgrid Solutions will use up to 500 megawatt-hours of Tesla batteries for grid-based energy storage. It will install the Tesla Powerpack systems for storage in commercial and industrial facilities to help balance the grid load. It offers greater reliability for the grid, and cost saving for customers. "Tesla's focus on performance and design makes them the stand out technology choice for our projects," Says Advanced Microgrid Solutions CEO Susan Kennedy. The National Electric Drag Racing Association has announced the Inaugural 2015 NEDRA Points Championship Series. It borrows rules from NHRA and IHRA, and seeks to put vehicle consistency and driver skill at the forefront.

Tesla Model S will get price increase

Tesla has confirmed the Model S will soon see a price increase. The company has yet to release details on how much more the critically acclaimed electric vehicle will cost moving forward, but has released a few details about how the shift will affect buyers with existing reservations. Tesla says the increase will not apply to anyone who has a reservation so long as they configure and finalize their order "within a fair and predefined timeframe." Likewise, those buyers who deferred their reservations will be able to keep the original pricing by finalizing their order within the same timeframe.
Tesla says the price shift will also include changes to the Model S option package structure, and that some features currently considered standard equipment will become added cost options in the future. As with the overall price increase, these changes will not impact those with current orders, reservations or deferred reservations. Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla Model 3 reservation priorities, Opel builds Ampera-e in US?

Opel will build the Ampera-e EV in the US. According to a report from German magazine Automobil Produktion, the electric Opel will be built alongside its sibling, the Chevrolet Bolt, at GM's Orion Assembly plant near Detroit, Michigan. GM CEO Mary Barra did not disclose the location of the Ampera-e's assembly, and Opel declined to comment on the report. A Vauxhall spokesman in the UK declined to comment on whether the car would be sold there as a right-hand-drive model. Read more from Automotive News Europe. How will Tesla prioritize reservations for the Model 3? While some folks argue that orders should be prioritized according to time zone, others think all the Tesla stores should open at the same exact time, regardless of time zone. What is more likely, however, is that places where more deliveries take place will get their cars before locations with fewer buyers, for the sake of efficiency. Built by Zoltan Bod in British Columbia, it is a body concept that will potentially be sold as a kit meant for various propulsion systems. The idea is to reduce aerodynamic drag as much as possible, while saving weight wherever possible, in order to get the greatest efficiency out of the powerplant - be it gas, electric or some other form of energy.
