Finally! The new generation Suzuki Jimny has been officially revealed, ready to replace the old model built since 1998. Or rather, Suzuki has at least l aunched a microsite dedicated to the small SUV's latest iteration, complete with color palette. The signature Kinetic Yellow launch color gets a similarly noticeable Brisk Blue alternative; the rest of the colors are more muted. Previously, photos of undisguised Jimnys had started coming out of the woodwork. Now we can have an official look at the neatly designed little Suzuki. It's not retro, but completely functional; these shots also show the fender flares missing from the JDM cars. When it comes to vehicles this small, the Jimny might be the boxiest thing produced since the original Fiat Panda ceased to be made in 2003. The rear hatch is the width of the entire rear, making cargo loading easy — the only hindrance we can see is that even on a left-hand-drive vehicle, the hinges are on the right, complicating things a little when one is street-parked. The interior has also survived transition into production quite nicely, with the big infotainment screen placed as high on the dash as possible. The materials on the dash look hard-wearing even in the official render, and the switchgear looks like it can be handled with gloves on. Engine specifications have not yet been announced on Suzuki's site at the time of writing, with the only technical photo a shot of the longitudinal engine perched on the ladder frame, accompanied by a mention of a three-link rigid axle suspension and part-time 4WD complete with low range. There are rumors of optional hybrid tech. Suzuki also says 2.85 million Jimnys have been sold through March 2018: If the pricing (about $18,500 for the old model in Europe) remains affordable, that number is sure to rise nicely. Suzuki introduces reborn Katana motorcycle

At the Cologne INTERMOT motorcycle show, Suzuki has shown its all-new Katana bike. The model brings back the classic, sword-referencing Katana name, which the manufacturer first used in 1980 — that bike, the GSX1100S Katana, was also unveiled in Cologne all those years ago. The bike utilizes a modified version of the GSX-R1000 engine in a lightweight, twin-spar aluminum frame. The engine's 150 peak horsepower comes at 10,000 rpm; the bike weighs 474 pounds. There's a fully digital gauge cluster, complete with the classic Katana logo. The bike's styling is quite dynamic, as if it were in fact sliced into completion using a Japanese sword. It is highly reminiscent of the Katana 3.0 concept Suzuki showed last year at EICMA — consider the new Katana a road-going version of the concept bike. The stacked headlight has LED running lights, and the taillight, fitted in the angular tail, also comprises LEDs. The plate in turn is fixed on a swingarm extension, as near the rear tire as possible. There are fully adjustable 43mm USD front forks and an adjustable rear shock from KYB, Brembo brakes from the GSX-R1000 and Bosch ABS. A three-mode traction control system is included, but it can also be excluded via switching it off. The system monitors wheel speeds, throttle and crank position, adjusting timing and air delivery to reduce engine output when it notices wheelspin. The related GSX-R1000 and R1000R models are also updated; the latter gets an adjustable swingarm pivot and new stainless steel braided brake hoses. The R1000R's bi-directional quickshifter and auto-blipper are now standard on the R1000, enabling smoother gearshifts. The Katana and the updated GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R reach dealers in spring 2019. Suzuki latest to admit to falsifying fuel economy tests

Suzuki is the latest automaker to be snagged in the broadening scandal of fuel economy falsification. Reuters reports that the head of the Japanese industrial giant admitted that it did not use the proper standards when testing its cars for fuel consumption. "The company apologizes for the fact that we did not follow rules set by the country," said CEO Osamu Suzuki (pictured bowing to reporters), as reported by Reuters. Over 2 million Suzuki vehicles are estimated to be affected. However Suzuki maintains that the company did not intentionally lie or mislead the public or government regulators about its vehicles' economy figures. Japan's transport ministry has ordered domestic automakers to resubmit those figures this week. Though Suzuki withdrew from the North American automobile market nearly four years ago, it remains the fourth largest in Japan (following Toyota, Nissan, and Honda) with particular sales strength in the Kei car segment. Like Honda and Yamaha, the company makes a variety of motorized products, including motorcycles, ATVs, and marine engines. The revelation follows hot on the heels of Mitsubishi's falsification, which broadened in scope from a few Kei cars to every vehicle it has sold in Japan stretching as far back as 1991. The controversy lead to Nissan taking control of a third of Mitsubishi's stock. Prior to that, and on the other side of the world, Volkswagen admitted to engineering its diesel vehicles to cheat emissions tests. Government regulators around the world have launched investigations into numerous other automakers to see how much farther the growing epidemic of falsifying environmental credentials can spread.
