1988 Suzuki Samurai Tin Top Good Stock Rig Daily Driver G-wagen 4x4 5 Speed on 2040-cars
Buffalo, New York, United States
Great little truck has been my daily driver until new truck arrived. 1988.5, so it has the post-Consumer Reports changes. Great 1.3l carbureted engine, 5 speed, 4x4 with manual hubs. Zippy driver, 24-6 mpg, holds more than it looks like it will. This was a Kentucky truck until 2011.
Spartan interior. Heat works. Wipers work, doors lock and open, etc. In past six months have put in new starter, new GM alternator, new battery cables, new front rotors and pads. Has Hella Vision Plus headlights that take modern replaceable bulbs -- very bright! Put in airbox from a Dodge with magnum engine. It isn't pretty but it breathes. This was an amateur restoration by the previous owner to a decent standard. Paint shines. Please see the pics, this is a great 10-footer but some rust does show bubbling. Frame is sound. Door hinges are cut for easy door removal. Lots of recent door and window seals on it, but ready for a new windshield seal. Amateur tint has scratches, residue from tint on the windshield. Original rear view mirror and sun visors are not present, previous owner put in a wide view mirror. Includes the fold and tumble seat that is not mounted, and a brand new black carpet kit. Also have a new set of floor plugs for the drain holes. Excellent city car, great 4 wheeler, gets plenty of attention. Not perfect, not a honda civic, not a Mercedes G-wagen, but an honest little Samurai. Happy to work with your shipper. Yes, I would drive it cross-country tomorrow, but I don't mind spartan rides or challenges that pop up. You might not want to do so. The accident on the autocheck was before I bought it, someone hit the back end at low speed, I've put a new stock bumper on it since then. I don't see any damage underneath. This is a 26-year old vehicle sold as is. |

Suzuki iV-4 Concept is a personalized 'ute for everyone but US
Wed, 11 Sep 2013It's with some sadness that we present to you the Suzuki iV-4 Concept - there's absolutely no way we'll ever see a production Suzuki based off this conceptual design in the States, despite the fact that the brand has quite a small-SUV heritage on our shores. Of course, we won't be seeing any new Suzuki passenger cars or trucks in the US at all...
For the rest of the world, Suzuki's push with this concept is personalization. According to the automaker, the name is broken down as such: "i" stands for "individuality," "V" for "vehicle," and "4" for "4 wheel-drive." A tad convoluted, perhaps, but we'll roll with it.
As far as its styling, the iV4 doesn't break any new ground for Suzuki, recalling its past and current production models with details that include a clamshell hood and a five-slot grille. Suzuki promises a production variant of this concept, and the "individuality" part will be accomplished through a selection of exterior components, colors and textures, though we're not clear what exactly that means or how it will differ from the accepted practice of ordering a unique car through a dealership.
Suzuki recalling 184k GM-built models for fire risk
Fri, 23 May 2014Suzuki is recalling 184,244 total units of the 2004-2008 Forenza (pictured above) and 2005-2008 Reno manufactured under contract by Daewoo, now General Motors Korea, between September 1, 2003, through July 30, 2008, for a risk of fire. The exact split in terms of number of each model isn't available yet.
In the vehicles, the heat generated in the headlight switch or daytime running light module could cause the parts to melt and cause a fire. If this sounds somewhat familiar, it's the same reason that 218,000 units of the 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo are being recalled. According to General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler: "It's the same issue."
Adler explained that as the contracted manufacturer, GM is responsible for finding a remedy to this problem and providing it to Suzuki. It's a similar situation as Toyota recalling the Matrix and giving the automaker the repair parts to fix the Pontiac Vibe, which shares the platform.
Japanese motorcycles moving into forced induction
Sat, 30 Nov 2013While turbocharging and supercharging may be nothing new in the automotive industry, motorcycle engines are almost always naturally aspirated. But even that's beginning to change. At the Tokyo Motor Show last week, two major Japanese companies showed off new forced-induction motorbike engines.
Kawasaki rolled in with a supercharged four-cylinder motorbike engine. It offered little in the way of details, disclosing only that the turbine blades were developed in-house to withstand the heat and vibration of spooling up at motorbike speeds.
Suzuki is taking a different approach, however. Its Recursion concept bike packs a turbocharged 588cc two-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and intercooler. The compact package churns out just under 100 horsepower and 74 pound-feet of torque, packaged into a motorbike that weighs just 384 pounds dry.
